ADMISSION ANNOUNCEMENT 2013-2014
ISI ADMISSION TEST FOR THE SESSION 2013-2014 WILL BE HELD ON 12 MAY 2013 (SUNDAY).

The Written Tests of Indian Statistical Institute for admission to B.Stat. (Hons.), B.Math. (Hons.), M.Stat., M.Math., M.S. in Quantitative Economics, M.S. in Library and Information Science, M.Tech. in Computer Science, M.Tech. in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research and Junior Research Fellowships in various disciplines will be held on Sunday, 12 May 2013.

Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata has invited applications for admission to the following courses of Academic Session 2013-14 through Admission Test to be conducted on Sunday, 12 May 2013:
BStat (Hons.)
BMath (Hons.)
MStat, MMath
MS in Quantitative Economics,
MS in Library and Information Science,
MTech in Computer Science,
MTech in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research and
Junior Research Fellowships

Courses and the desired qualifications are as follows (Candidates who are due to complete the qualifying examinations before 01 July 2013 may also apply):
1. 3-year BStat (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs. 800/- per month. (Offered at Kolkata).

2. 3-year BMath (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs. 800/- per month. (Offered at Bangalore).

Candidates for the above two programmes, who have successfully cleared the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad test, conducted by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, need not sit for the written test; such candidates would be directly called for interview. However, such candidates are required to apply in the prescribed application form.

3. 2-year MStat: 3 - year Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as full subject, or a BStat / BMath degree from the Indian Statistical Institute or a Statistician’s Diploma / Senior Diploma in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute. (Offered at Kolkata).

4. 2-year MMath: 3-year Bachelor’s degree or a BE / BTech degree, with Mathematics and an exceptionally strong background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra or a BStat / BMath degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. (Offered at Kolkata).

5. 2-year Master of Science (MS) in Quantitative Economics: 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics / Mathematics / Statistics / Physics or a BStat degree from the Indian Statistical Institute. Engineering graduates are also eligible. Candidates should have knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the BA / BSc pass level. (Offered at Kolkata & Delhi).

6. 2-year Master of Science (MS) in Library and Information Science: 3-year Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. The candidates must have secured at least 60% marks in the Bachelors’ degree. (Offered at Bangalore).

7. 2-year MTech in Computer Science: (i) Master's degree in Mathematics / Statistics / Physics / Electronic Sciences / Computer Science / Computer Applications / Information Technology or, (ii) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or any other qualification considered equivalent (such as AMIE or, GRAD-IETE or, DOEACC ‘B’ Level). (Offered at Kolkata).

A candidate with a valid GATE score above a threshold (to be decided by the Selection Committee) in his / her own subject would be directly called for interview. However, such candidates are required to apply in the prescribed application form.

8. 2-year MTech in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: (i) Master's degree in Statistics or Master's degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC & OR from the Indian Statistical Institute and (ii) Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics and Chemistry at Higher Secondary level. (Offered at Kolkata).

9. Junior Research Fellowship:
(a) Statistics: (i) A good academic record with MStat, MA / MSc or equivalent degree in Statistics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with BStat / BMath, BA / BSc or equivalent degree with Statistics as the main subject.

(b) Mathematics: (i) A good academic record with MStat, MMath, MA / MSc or equivalent degree in Mathematics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with BStat / BMath, BA / BSc or equivalent degree with Mathematics as the main subject.

(c) Quantitative Economics: (i) A good academic record with MS (QE), MStat, MA / MSc or equivalent degree in Statistics / Mathematics / Economics / Econometrics or, (ii) outstanding mathematical maturity with BA / BSc degree with Economics as the main subject. A candidate possessing a Master's degree in any subject with Mathematics / Statistics at BA / BSc (Pass) level is also eligible.

(d) Computer Science: A good academic record with ME / MTech or equivalent degree in Electronics / Telecommunication / Radio Physics / Computer Science / Electrical Engineering /Microwave Communications / Information Technology / Bioinformatics / Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level or a good academic record with MSc / MCA / MA or equivalent degree in Physics / Mathematics / Applied Mathematics / Statistics / Electronic Sciences / Computer Science / Atmospheric Science / Information Technology / Bioinformatics / Biotechnology with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having BE /  BTech or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.

(e) Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: A good academic record with MTech / ME / MS / MPhil or equivalent degree in Quality / Reliability / Operations Research or a good academic record with MStat / MSc / MA or equivalent degree in Mathematics / Statistics / Physics with Mathematics as a compulsory subject at the graduate level. Outstanding candidates having BE / BTech or equivalent degree in the above subjects will also be eligible.

(f) Physics and Applied Mathematics: A good academic record with MSc in Physics / Mathematics / Statistics.

(g) Agriculture & Ecology: A good academic record with MSc in Botany (with specialization in Plant Physiology / Biochemistry) /  Environmental Science / Applied Mathematics / Statistics.

(h) Sociology: A good academic record with MA / MSc or equivalent degree in Development Studies / Sociology / Economics / Agricultural Economics or any other subject in Social Sciences.

(i) Geology: A good academic record with MSc in Geology / Applied Geology / Geophysics or equivalent.

(j) Library and Information Science: A consistently good academic record with first or high second class in MS (LIS) awarded by the Indian Statistical Institute or Associate ship in Documentation and Information Science of the Indian Statistical Institute or NISCAIR / INSDOC or its equivalent degree(such as Master's degree in Library and Information Science from any University) with at least 55% marks in undergraduate programme.

(k) Psychology: A good academic record with MA / MSc in Psychology / Applied Psychology.

(l) Linguistics: A consistently good academic record with a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics / English as the Honours / full subject and First Class or high Second class in Masters Degree in Linguistics (with specializaion in Applied Linguistics / Language Teaching / Lexicography / Field Linguistics / Computational Linguistics / Translation Studies / Discourse study) (Offered at Kolkota)
