Ph. D. Programme – 2013 Admission





Registration for doctoral research
Applications are invited from eligible candidates for registration to the Ph. D. programme of Central University of Kerala, which may be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis as per University Regulations. Candidates working in research projects in Departments of the University shall be eligible to seek full-time/part-time registration if the Research Guide and the Principal Investigator of the research project are one and the same. 
Permanent employees of a Recognized Research Centre (RRC) shall be eligible to seek part-time registration, whereas candidates working in relevant research projects at an RRC shall be eligible to seek full-time registration only.
Candidates seeking part-time registration shall be considered only if the respective Departmental Research Committee is convinced that effective supervision and a minimum attendance of 60 days, even with breaks, in a calendar year can be ensured.

         Eligibility for Registration 
Candidates seeking registration to the doctoral programme shall have passed the Master's Degree in the concerned/allied/relevant subject with 55% marks in the qualifying examination, or with a CGPA of 6.0 in the 10 point scale, from a University recognized by the University Grants Commission, provided that a candidate belonging to SC/ST community shall be eligible for concession up to 5% marks.
      
        Submission of application
Candidates seeking registration to the doctoral programme may download the prescribed application form from the University website www.cukerala.ac.in and submit the duly filled-up form along with the prescribed fee of Rs.1000/-(for SC/ST/PWD candidates Rs. 500/- only) to the University account on or before 27/03/2013. In the case of candidates intending to do research at a recognized research institution, the application shall be submitted to the Head of the University Department concerned through the Head of the recognized institution along with her/his recommendation and facility certificate.

       University Departments/Recognized Research Centre
Under the relevant provisions of its Act, Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations, etc., the University may accord recognition to a Government/Semi-Government research institution, located within its territorial jurisdiction, as a Recognized Research Centre of the University for the purpose of pursuing doctoral research in disciplines that correspond to disciplines of the University Departments, provided that at least two members of the staff in every such discipline in the said institution meet the requirements, as per the Regulations in the matter, for being recognized as Research Guides of the University.

A research institution, as stated above, seeking such recognition may submit an application to the Director of Research in the University, specifying the University Department that corresponds to the discipline in which recognition is sought and attaching the resume of their staff, in the discipline concerned, who intend to seek recognition as Research Guides of the University. Such recognition may be sought by a research institution in one or more of its constituent disciplines that correspond to disciplines of the University Departments.


Doctoral Entrance Test (DET)
All candidates, whose applications for registration to the doctoral programme are found to be in order, will be required to take the Doctoral Entrance Test (DET) conducted by the University Department concerned. Candidates, who secure a minimum of 50% marks in the DET, will be deemed to have qualified in the Test.



 Exemption from DET
      The following candidates are exempted from taking the DET :
i)      Candidates qualified under INSPIRE/UGC-CSIR NET/ICMR/GATE/ICAR /DBT/NBHM/ ICSSR/ KSCSTE or under State Eligibility Tests recognized for the purpose by the University.
ii)     Candidates with research fellowships awarded by a Governmental agency/ Government in India
iii)   Foreign students, self-funded or sponsored by Governmental agencies/ Government, subject to clearance of Government of India as per rules   
iv)    Students of Indian origin, working in an overseas institution/laboratory and involved in a collaborative research programme with a Research Guide of this University
v)     Students engaged in a sandwich doctoral programme of collaborative research between this University and another institution as approved by the Executive Council 
vi)    Teachers of Universities/aided colleges/Government or Quasi-Government institutions, Scientists or Class A/ Class B officers working in Universities or in Government/Governmental institutions/laboratories in India with a minimum continuous service of five years as permanent employees
vii)  M. Phil. degree holders, including Integrated M. Phil. Degree holders of this University, with a minimum CGPA of 6.0, provided the candidate intends to pursue the doctoral programme in the same/allied/relevant subject as that of the M. Phil. degree

Consent of Research Guide
All candidates who qualify in the DET, as well as those exempted from taking the DET will be eligible to seek, in person or through e-mail, the consent of Research Guides of the University for permission to undertake doctoral research under their supervision. Candidates who obtain such consent letters from Research Guides may submit the same (hard copy/email copy) to the office of the Head of the University Department concerned before the last date prescribed.

Interview and admission advice
All candidates who have submitted consent letters in time as stated above will be required to present and discuss her/his research interest at an Interview before the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) or a sub-committee constituted by it. All candidates certified by the DRC of being successful at the Interview, shall be served, on the same day, with an advice for admission.

Applications complete in all respects must reach the Head of the University Department concerned on or before 27-03-2013.
