JAM 2014

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have invited applications for the Joint Admission Test (JAM) to be held on February 9 across the country for admission to M.Sc, Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-PhD. dual-degree and other post-Bachelor's degree pro­grammes.

The IITs, Madras, Delhi, Bombay, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Bhu-baneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad and Indore, conduct these programmes. Admission to integrated Ph.D. programmes in Physical, Chemical, Biological and Mathematical Sciences of the Indian Institute of Sci­ence (IISc), Bangalore, is done through JAM.

The test centres include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhi-kode, Mangalore, Tiruchira-palli, Coimbatore, Goa, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Vi-sakhapatnam, Madurai, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Kolkata. The IIT, Kanpur, is organising the test.

The three-hour JAM is held in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics. A candidate can ap­pear for a paper or two.
All questions for Biolog­ical Sciences and Biotech­nology will be of objective type and others, objective-cum-subjective. The test will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The application fee for women, the physically chal­lenged and those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes is Rs. 750 for one paper and Rs. 1,050 for two. Men have to pay Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 2,100, respectively. Bank charges should be paid. The fee can be paidthrough Net banking or challan. The payment should be made to the ac­count of Chairman, JAM, State Bank of India, IIT Kanpur Branch, A/C No. 30733644428 and IFSC Code: SBIN0001161. .

The online application portal http://gate.iitk.ac.in/ jam will be open for regis­tration from September 16 to October 16. The appli­cants have to fill their per­sonal data online, which can be updated or modified until the payment of fee. The last date for payment of fee is October 12. After the payment  the applicant should take a printout of the online registration form latest by October 16, affix a photo­graph and signature and send it to the Chairperson of JAM 2014 of the IIT, Kan­pur, by registered post, along with copies of documents  so as to reach the ad­dressee on or before October 23.

The results will be announced at 5 p.m. on April 16. Those who qualify in the test may apply specifying their preferences for the programmes to the IIT, Kanpur.
