Admissions to the Under-Graduate (LL.B) and Post-Graduate (LL.M) Degree

The Common Law Admission Test-2014, the all India entrance examination for admissions to the Under-Graduate (LL.B) and Post-Graduate (LL.M) Degree Programmes in the various National Law Universities will be conducted by the Gujarat National Law University, Attalika Avenue, Knowledge Corridor, Koba, Gandhinagar, Gujarat-382007 (www.gnlu.ac.in),   from 3 pm to 5 pm on 11th May, 2014 (Sunday).

The 14 National Law Universities/Institutes that are part of the CLAT-2014 are;
National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore
NALSAR University of Law (NALSAR), Hyderabad
The National Law Institute University (NLIU), Bhopal
The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata
National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur
Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur
Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar
Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU), Lucknow
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala
Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna

The availability of the Programmes (UG/PG) at each university may be seen from the website of the University. The Admission Test will be conducted at 21 cities which include the cities of the 14 participating Universities and 7 other cities including Jaipur, Chandigarh, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Jammu and Siliguri. If sufficient numbers of applications (minimum 100) are not received for any City/ Centre, conduct of examination at that City/Centre may be cancelled and such candidates may be allotted a Test City/Centre according to the second and third preference furnished by them.

For the Under Graduate Programmes, applicant should be an Indian National and must not have attained 20 years in case of General/OBC/Persons with Disability (PWD) and Other category candidates and 22 years in case of SC/ST category candidates, by 1st July 2014.

Applicant should have passed the 10+2 examination and must have secured 45% marks in case of General/OBC/PWD and other category and 40% marks in case of SC/ST category.  The result of qualifying examination (10+2) has to be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course. Those appearing in qualifying examination in March/April 2014 are also eligible to apply subject to the conditions specified.

The CLAT-2014 Question Paper for UG courses shall have multiple choice type questions carrying a maximum of 200 marks and the test will be of 2 hours duration. There will be 200 questions from English including Comprehension (40 Marks), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (50 Marks), Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability) (20 Marks), Legal Aptitude (50 Marks) and Logical Reasoning (40 Marks). Each wrong answer will results in loss of 0.25 Mark. Answers are to be marked/darkened in the OMR sheet with black ball point pen only. Candidates will not be permitted to carry the Question paper after the examination.

For admission to LL.M, applicant should hold LL.B/Five-Year Integrated LL.B/any other equivalent qualification and must have scored 55% marks in case applicant belongs to General/OBC/PWD and other category, and 50% marks in case applicant belongs to SC/ST category. The result of qualifying examination shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course. No provisional admission shall be provided to those candidates who are not submitting the result of the qualifying examination at the time of admission. Those appearing in qualifying examination in March/April 2014 are also eligible to apply.

The CLAT-2014 Question Paper for PG courses shall have a maximum of 150 marks. There will be Long Essay Type Descriptive Questions (100 Marks - 4 questions of 25 marks each, pertaining to subject areas such as Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence; Multiple-Choice Questions carrying 50 Marks (50 questions of 1 mark each covering all subjects except Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence prescribed by BCI for Under-Graduate Courses). Wrong answers of MCQ will result in loss of 0.25 Mark. In case of equal marks secured by candidates, the procedure to break the tie will be as per the following:

Question Paper Booklets of CLAT of previous years (UG/PG) can be procured both online and offline by remitting a charge of Rs.250/-. For procuring the Booklets via post from CLAT Office (at GNLU) an additional amount of Rs.150/- shall be provided towards postal charges. The supply will start after the notification of CLAT-2014.

Application can be submitted only online. The CLAT-2014 Online Application Form will be accessible on the CLAT website www.clat.ac.in between 1st January, 2014 and 31st March, 2014 along with the Information Brochure. Applications can only be submitted online, from 1st January, 2014 (Wednesday) to 11.59 pm on 31st March, 2014 (Monday). The submitted Online Application Form in PDF format and other details will be available and accessible in the LOGIN ACCOUNT of the candidate.

No hard copy of the Application Form and Information Brochure will be sold this time. CLAT-2014 Information Brochure will also be accessible from the respective website of all the participating NLUs. The fees will be Rs.4000/- for General/OBC/PWD and other category candidates and Rs.3500/- for SC/ST category candidates. This can be remitted online or offline.

The online payment can be made through net-banking, debit card, credit card etc. wherein the candidate will have to bear the additional transaction costs for remitting the fees through payment gateways.

For paying the fees offline through website, the candidate will have to download the ‘Bank Challan’ that will be generated with the required information, as filled in by the candidate, and make the payment with additional bank charges at any branch of the SBI. After making the requisite payment at the bank, the candidate needs to upload the scanned PDF copy of the ‘Bank Challan’ and also fill-in the details as required at the relevant section of the website.

The relevant attested photocopies of the certificates/documents in support of one's claim for admission are to be uploaded while filling the Online Application Form. The photocopies of documents need to be attested by a Gazetted Officer not related to the candidate. The scanned attested photocopies of the documents to be uploaded in the PDF format (or as specified) by all the candidates are (a) Birth Certificate (b) Standard X Mark sheet (c) Qualifying Examination Mark sheet/Certificate such as 10+2 or its equivalent examination certificate from a recognized Board (for UG Courses) (d) Qualifying Examination Mark sheet/Certificate such as LL.B. or its equivalent examination certificate from a recognized University (for PG Courses) (e) Passport size photograph (3.5 cms x 4.5 cms) {JPG Format} (f) Signature of candidate {JPG Format} (g) Signature of parent/guardian {JPG Format}.

The scanned attested photocopies of the documents to be uploaded in the PDF format by a candidate depending on the applicability are,  (a) Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC) (b) Disability Certificate (Persons With Disability, P.W.D.) (c) Special Category certificate like E.B.C.; B.C.; W.B.C.; D.F.F.; S.E.B.C.; Ancestral residents of village Sidhuwal, District Patiala; Son/Daughters of Defense Personnel Deployed in U.P. or Defense Personnel of U.P. either retired or killed/ disabled in action; Dependant of Freedom Fighter of U.P. and Kashmiri Migrants (d) Certificates in support of One's Claim for NRI/NRI Sponsored Candidate (e) Domicile Certificate in support of one's claim for consideration under State Quota

No copies of the filled in Online Application Form or uploaded certificates/documents need to be sent to the CLAT Office. The Hall-Ticket/Admit Card may be accessed/downloaded by the candidate in the personal LOGIN ACCOUNT. The candidate is required to take the printout of the Hall-Ticket/Admit Card to the Examination Hall.

The candidate interested in seeking admission in any of the NLUs under the NRI/NRI sponsored seat shall undertake the CLAT-2014. The admission will be based on the merit in CLAT-2014. The students are also simultaneously required to complete the formalities of the respective universities, if any, for which the candidate need to, contact the respective university of interest for further information.
