About AUCE (A):
Andhra University College of Engineering (A), Visakhapatnam, is one of the campus colleges of the University. At the time of its inception in 1955 it was a Department of Engineering with Civil Engg, Mechanical Engg and Electrical Engg as the main branches. In 1966, the College of Engineering became a constituent college of Andhra University. AUCE (A) is spread over 167 acres. The College of Engineering (Autonomous) consists of 11 Engineering and 4 Basic Sciences departments, offering 15 undergraduate Engineering programs; 42 postgraduate Engineering programs.  All the departments run research programs leading to PhD Degrees.

About Centre for Nanotechnology:
Centre for Nanotechnology established in the year 2009. Andhra University College of Engineering (A) possesses a vision to foster the development of research and education in the multi-disciplinary area of Nanotechnology at AUCE (A), to develop human resources gifted with leading-edge competitive advantages in the multi-disciplinary area of Nanotechnology required for meeting the future challenges, to augment academic partnerships with industry in the area of Nanotechnology. Admission into Research assistantships  leading to Full-time Ph.Ds/Registered  Ph.D Scholars in AUCE (A) can apply  under TEQIP-II: 1.2.1 CoE

Introduction
Facilities for doing research leading to Research assistantships/Ph.D degree programme is available in Centre for Nanotechnology.

Admission to the Research assistantships/Ph.D programs will be in the following schemes:
Research assistantships/Ph.D. fellowships are available for candidates under Full-time scheme.

Eligibility & Academic requirements for Admission to Ph.D. programs:
The candidates for Research assistantships/Ph.D. Programs may be offered admission, based on certain minimum academic requirements to be satisfied by the candidates as given below:
The maximum age for admission to Ph.D. program is 40 years.
M.E./M.Tech (Nanotechnology) or M.E./M.Tech. of AU or its equivalent in Aeronautical/Aerospace/Chemical/Mechanical//Mechatronics/Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engg./Material Science/Metallurgy/industrial Metallurgy/Marine/Instrument Engg. (or) Equivalent Degree. Candidates must have obtained at least 60% marks (or 6.5 Grade Point out of 10) in their Master's level.



Candidates Holding Degrees equivalent from Foreign Universities:
Candidates holding degrees from foreign universities have to produce a certificate stating that the degrees of the candidates have been recognized and approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)/Commonwealth Universities/International Association of Universities (IAU)/Accredited Universities as equivalent to the corresponding Indian degrees for the purpose of higher studies.
However, applications with degrees from well reputed foreign institutions will be considered by an expert committee constituted in this regard.

Selection of candidates
The admission to Research assistantships/Ph.D degree programme will be on the basis of written test and/or interview, by the centre.

Salient features of Research assistantships/Ph.D degree programme
Research assistantships/Ph.D degree programme of the Institute are structured around certain minimum number of theory courses, which have to be passed by the scholars, minimum number of journals published by the scholars, a comprehensive viva-voce examination, and a Thesis work, which will be examined by a Thesis Board and an Oral Board. Only on the basis of the successful completion of all the Graduation Requirements, a scholar will be awarded Ph.D. degree by the Board of Governors of the Institute based on the recommendation of the Senate.

Eligibility for the Award of Degree:
The Ph.D. thesis submitted by the scholar will be evaluated by three external examiners, two from India and another from abroad, they being experts in the concerned area of the research. On receipt of satisfactory thesis evaluation reports from the examiners, an Oral Examination Board will be constituted by the Chairman Senate for the conduct of the thesis defense /oral examination. The members of the Board will include one of the external examiners, thesis supervisor(s) and another examiner appointed by the Chairman of the Senate with the Head of the Department (if he is a guide then the former Head) as Chairman. The scholar will be declared eligible for the award of the degree only if the Oral Examination Board recommends the same after successful defense of the thesis and has completed other requirements as per the Ph.D. regulations.

Graduation Requirements:
All Ph.D. scholars irrespective of the type of registration will have to complete the following requirements for Graduation:
·         Credited the 2 theory courses prescribed and earned the minimum CGPA stipulated.
·         Successfully completed the Comprehensive Viva-Voce Examination.
·         Minimum number of journal papers published in International and National Journals.
·         Successfully presented an Open Defense of his/her thesis.
·         Obtained positive recommendations both from the external examiners and the Oral Examination Board.
Financial Assistance:
A few research fellowships are available to full time research scholars who are not receiving any financial support/ scholarship from other Agencies or State or Central Governments. They are required to assist the Department in the academic work for at least 8 hours per week as per guidelines issued by the TEQIP Phase – II, CoE.
The present rates of fellowships and tenure of Research Assistantships are as follows:

(1st June 2015 to 31st October 2016)








This facility will not be available to UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/JEST/DBT or if any Fellowship holders.

·         Demand Draft towards application fee (Rs. 400/- for Open and OBC candidates, Rs. 200/- for  SC/ST candidates) drawn in favour of “The Principal, A.U.College of Engineering (A), payable at Visakhapatnam” in any national bank, is to be enclosed.
·         The following documents arranged in the order given below should be enclosed along with the application (whichever is applicable):
1.    Research Proposal (use separate single sheet, 500 words approximately)
2.    Self attested copy of proof of date of birth.
3.    Self attested copy of Mark lists & Degree/Provisional certificate of the Post Graduate Program.
4.    Self attested copy of Mark lists & Degree certificate of the Under Graduate Program.
5.    Self attested copy of valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NET fellowship in the relevant areas tenable from the current year, if applicable.
6.    Self attested copy of community certificate in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar).
7.    Self attested copy of community certificate in the case of OBC candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating that the candidate does not belong to the Creamy Layer for the financial year ending 31st May 2014.
8.    Sponsorship certificate duly filled by the sponsoring authority on their letter head with the seal of the sponsoring authority in the prescribed format, in the case of external candidate.
9.    Self attested copy of all research publications in Journals and Conferences.
10.               Demand draft towards application fee as per the category of the candidate.
·      Printout of the Application with all the above enclosures should be sent (in A4 size cover) by Post so as to reach the following address on or before 19-05-2015, 5 p.m.
