Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Rewards and Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Recognitions 2012-13


The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers! Rights Authority (PPV&FRA) has been established by the Central Government under the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Act, 2001. The Authority grants exclusive rights to the breeders and farmers who have bred, evolved or developed any variety. In accordance with section 39 (1 )(iii) of PPV&FR Act, 2001 and the PPV&FR (Recognition and Reward from the Gene Fund) Rules, 2012, recognition and reward are conferred to a farmer from Gene Fund.

The Authority invites applications for the Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Reward and Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Recognition 2012-13. The Authority annually confers the Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Reward and Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Recognition on the basis of applications from farmers engaged in the conservation of genetic resources of landraces and wild relatives of economic plants and their improvement through selection and preservation and the material so selected and preserved has been used as donors of gene in varieties registerable under the PPV&FR Act, 2001 (53 of 2001). There shall be maximum of 10 rewards and 20 recognitions certificates in a financial year. The Reward shall comprise of a citation, memento and a cash of Rs. 1 lakh each. The recognition shall consist Of a Citation and Memento.

Eligibility: A farmer engaged in the conservation of genetic' resources of landraces and wild relatives of economics plants and their improvement through selection and preservation and the material so selected and preserved has been used as donors of gene in varieties registerable under the Act shall be eligible for Reward and Recognition.

Application form : The format of the application form may be downloaded from the website www.plantauthority.gov.in  or may be obtained on all working days from the office of PPV&FRA between 9:30 A.M to 5:30 P.M. Applications can be filled either in Hindi or English. There is no application fee and only complete form with all supportive documents is to be submitted. If required, site verification will also be undertaken by the Authority and the decision of the Authority shall be final. The applications received after last date will be automatically treated as application for the next year reward. The farmers once entitled for Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Reward or Plant Genome Saviour Farmer Recognition shall not be eligible to apply again. Essential: It is essential for the applicants to forward their application through Chairperson or Secretary of the Concerned Panchayat Biodiversity Management Committee or Concerned District Agricultural Officer or Director of Research ofconcerned State Agriculture University or concerned District Tribal Development Office. The shortlisted farmers for Recognition and Rewards shall be required to deposit specified quantity of seeds. Last Date of Submission: The duly filled application forms should reach the office of the Registrar (Farmers' Rights), Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers' Rights Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt, of India, S-2, 'A' Block, NASC Complex, DPS Marg, Opp. Todapur, New Delhi -110 012, on or before 15th October, 2012.
