Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test for admission to Class VI for the academic session 2014-15

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi has invited applications for a selection test to be held on February 8 for admission to Class VI for the academic session 2014-15. There are 595 Jawahar Navodaya Vi-dyalayas in the country. Kerala has 14, one in each district.
The medium of instruction in these schools is the mother tongue or regional language up to Class VIII and thereafter English for Maths and Science and Hindi for Social Science. The schools follow the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus.
All educational expenses of the students, including for tuition, boarding, lodging, uniforms and textbooks, are met by the government. But a fee of Rs. 200 a month will have to be paid from Class IX, exempted for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and families below the poverty line, girls and the physically challenged.
A maximum of 80 students are admitted to Class VI in each school.

Eligibility
Each school admits students only from the district it is located. Applicants must have been born between May 1, 2001, and April 30, 2005, and must pass Class V in 2013-14.
At least 75 per cent of the seats in a district will be filled by rural students. Those seeking admission under the rural quota must have studied Classes III, IV and V in rural areas.
Anyone who has studied in a school in an urban area even for a day in these classes will be considered an urban student.
The parents of children who qualify in the selection test will have to submit an affidavit or residence certificate in the prescribed pro forma, in addition to other documents.
For candidates seeking admission under the rural quota, an affidavit that the child is studying in an institute or school located in a rural area and he or she lives in a rural area should be submitted.
The two-hour selection test will have three sections with objective-type questions. There are 100 questions, each carrying one mark. The test assesses mental ability, arithmetic skills and language proficiency. Test booklets issued to the candidates are prepared in 21 languages, including Ma-layalam and English. Therefore, the medium of language chosen for the test should be mentioned in the application form. The result is expected by May-end.
