Applications are invited for admission to the Ph. D Programme at the S. N.
Pradhan Centre for Neurosciences. Candidates willing to pursue research work
leading subsequently to the Ph. D. (Sc.) degree in Neuroscience, University of
Calcutta, should apply in plain paper in the format attached
herewith (downloadable from University Website, admission notification) to the
head of the Department, after paying Rs.100/- to the University cash counter
through a challan available from the university Sales Counter of the C.U.
College Street Campus. A photocopy of the challan of RET examination fee deposited
by the candidate must be attached to the application of the candidate for the
RET. Candidates are also requested to submit a document (not exceeding 1000
words) containing personal statement and research interest.
The eligible candidate will have to appear at a
written MCQ examination to be held at the S. N. Pradhan Centre for
Neurosciences, the details of which are appended below. Successful candidates
will be called for an interview. The final selection for joining the Ph. D
program of this department along with the allocation of supervisor will be made
on the basis of this Interview.
Those Candidates who have already passed UGC-CSIR
(JRF) NET/SET/SLET/GATE/ Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examination need not
appear for the written test. However, they are to submit a complete application
including the 1000 word document.
Attested copies of all testimonials must be
submitted by the candidate along with the application for it to be considered
complete in all respects.

3. Date of RET (written part) Examination (MCQ
type; 50 questions: duration 12 noon –1pm) : 11.09.2013
4. Date of declaration of results (in the Notice
Board, Department of S. N. Pradhan Centre for Neurosciences, University of
Calcutta) showing the names of successful candidates
in the written part of RET on : 13.09.20135. Date
of RET Interview of successful candidates in the RET (written part) and also
for the candidates who have already cleared eligibility tests like
NET/SET/SLET/GATE and equivalent exams or those having M. Phil. or M. Tech .:
17.09.2013 (12 noon onwards)
6. Date of declaration of the names of successful
candidates will be notified in due course.
The present maximum intake for Ph. D at the S. N.
Pradhan Centre for Neurosciences is 4 under the supervision of eligible
supervisor for Ph. D guidance at the S. N. Pradhan Centre for Neurosciences
(with full concurrence to the reservation policy)
The syllabus for RET written examination will be
based on the current M. Sc. (at the S. N. Pradhan Centre for Neurosciences)
syllabus of the University of Calcutta (downloadable from University website
