Admission to Ph. D. Programme for the Academic Year 2014-2015

National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications for its Ph.D. Programme.

Cutting-edge research at the Institute encompasses broad interdisciplinary areas - 1) Chemical Biology
2) Genetics and Cell Signaling 3) Immunity and Infection 4) Molecular and Cellular Biology   
5) Reproduction and Development  6) Structural and Computational Biology.

NII will select candidates for Ph.D. programme for the academic year 2014-2015 through the following CHANNELS.
I.    Joint Graduate Entrance Examination in Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS; December 2013)
II.   * Joint CSIR-UGC Test for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
III. * DBT Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF)
IV.* ICMR Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR-JRF)
V.  * Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

* Candidates interested in applying through CHANNELS II to V should have scores available for the corresponding examinations by April 06, 2014 (closing date for applications) and the corresponding fellowships should be valid for activation at least up to July 31, 2014.

Candidates applying for Ph.D. at NII will be short-listed for an interview based on JGEEBILS (December 2013) or their scores/ranks in examinations (CSIR, DBT, ICMR or GATE) mentioned in CHANNELS II to V above.  The list of candidates short-listed for interviews shall be available on the website of the Institute as well as on the Notice Board of the Institute by April 14, 2014.  Interviews will be held at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi from June 06 - 08, 2014.

Candidates selected after the final interviews will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi. The programme will start on July 14, 2014.The Institute will provide a Fellowship stipend of Rs.16000/-, 18000/-, 20000/- per month depending on the degree qualifications. Shared hostel accommodation will be available on request.

Women candidates fulfilling the requirements are encouraged to apply

Minimum qualifications:
A.  M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics) or M.Tech. or M.B.B.S. or M.V.Sc. or M.Pharm. or equivalent qualification as per the norms of  Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

B.  At least 60% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2) and Bachelor’s degree, and at least 55% aggregate score or equivalent grade in Master’s degree is required.

C. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination this academic year may also apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the above requirements at the time of joining.

D. Reservations of seats: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC (non-creamy layer) and 3% for Physically Handicapped as per statutory norms.

In addition, the candidate should appear at JGEEBILS (December 2013 exam) or should have scores available for the CSIR, DBT, ICMR or GATE by April 06, 2014 and the corresponding fellowships should be valid for activation at least up to July 31, 2014.

Application procedure:
Applicants who desire to be considered for more than one CHANNEL should provide corresponding information in the same application form.

CHANNEL I
Candidates applying through CHANNEL I should first register for JGEEBILS (December 2013 exam) and then should also submit an application to NII directly, following the procedure (A-C) outlined below. The procedure for applying for JGEEBILS is available at:

CHANNELS II TO V
Candidates holding valid CSIR, DBT, ICMR or GATE fellowships should submit applications directly to NII following the procedure outlined below.

A. Applications should preferably be sent online (visit website http://www.nii.res.in).   Online application facility will be available on the NII website from October 09, 2013 to April 06, 2014.

B. Applicants unable to submit an online application can submit a hard copy application. Click here for instructions and format for hard copy application.
C. Applications incomplete in any respect will be summarily rejected and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained. Applications received after the closing date will not be entertained on any grounds, including postal delays. Decisions of the Admission Committee will be final and binding, and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION
ONLINE APPLICATION  INTERFACE SHALL BE AVAILABLE FROM October 9, 2013 (2.00 PM)  UP TO April 6, 2014 (5.00 PM).

Instructions :
1.      Please read the following instructions carefully before starting the online registration.
2.  Name of the Candidate and date of birth should be entered exactly as shown in the Senior Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
3.      Before filling the online application form, the candidate should have the following items or information ready.
 A valid e-mail address
 Hall Ticket Number of the JGEEBILS (December 2013) examination, if applicable.
 Scanned image of a recent passport size photograph in JPG format. (click to see specifications)
 Scanned image of the signature of the candidate in JPG format. (click to see specifications)
 Scanned image of the reservation (SC/ST/OBC/PH)  in PDF or JPG format, if applicable.
Scanned image of the JRF Award Letter for CSIR-UGC/DBT/ICMR or GATE score card in PDF or JPG format, if applicable.

4.   Before filling the online application form, the candidate must "Create Account" after clicking on the "Apply Online Now" link at the end of these instructions.

5.   After creating the account the candidate should login using "User Login" and then click  "Online Registration" to fill the required details for the online application process.

6.  Candidates with MBBS or Integrated Master's Degrees should fill the same information in the Bachelor's and Master's degree fields in the online application form.

7.  Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination this academic year should write "APPEARING" in the appropriate fields.

8.   After filling the required details, the candidate will be prompted to upload their passport size photograph, signature and other applicable documents. After the files are uploaded, the candidate should click  "Click here to submit"  to complete the online submission process.

9.   Upon successful completion of online registration, an application ID will be displayed and the candidate can also view the complete application along with all attachments. After completion of online registration process, the application details can not be changed. The candidate can however view the submitted application by clicking  "Application Details".

10. Online applicants should not send hard copies of the application or any supporting documents to NII. Candidates short-listed for the interview will be required to produce original documents for verification.  

11.
