Eligibility

• Candidate should hold a Master’s Degree (from a recognised university) in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% (In the case of SC / ST candidates there will be a relaxation of 5%). Selection will be through an Entrance Test and Interview
• Candidates who have passed UGC / CSIR / Fellowship holders shall be exempted from the Written Test; but they will need to take up the Interview.
• Candidates who are qualified for CA or ACS or ICWA with basic degree are also eligible to register for Ph.D. in this category
• Candidates who have qualified for Masters Degree prior to 1990-91 with no less than 50% marks are also eligible to register for Ph.D. programme
• M.Phil. degree holders will get a waiver for part of the course work of Ph.D. programme
• Candidates sponsored by organizations are also eligible to apply subject to their fulfillment of the above mentioned qualifications
• Candidates who hold a Masters Degree viz., M.Tech / M.Sc (Engineering) in Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering (Structural or Associated disciplines) are eligible for the Ph.D. (Aerospace Engineering) Programme.

Duration of the Programme

Terms & Programme Content 

Pre Ph.D. Course work 
Candidates admitted into the Ph.D. programme are required to complete pre Ph.D. course work comprising two terms over a total duration of one year.

The first two semesters (first year) of the PhD programme is devoted to course work. Successful completion of course work would confirm the registration. Two years after successful completion of course work, the student is eligible to submit the thesis.
Evaluation of Pre Ph.D.
Candidates will be awarded a pass in Pre Ph.D. Course upon:
• Securing an aggregate of 50% marks in the term end exams, and a minimum of 40% marks in each subject
• Award of pass grade by the Guide and Co-Guide for the Literature Review and Synopsis
Seminar

On successful completion of the Pre Ph.D. programme, an open Seminar shall be presented by the Research Scholar wherein he is expected to defend the research proposal. The Seminar shall be presented before an Evaluation Committee consisting of 3 experts, of which at least one shall be from Jain University in addition to the Guides. The Committee will recommend the suitability of the candidate for registration into the Ph.D. programme.

Registration to Ph.D. Programme
Final Registration of candidates into Ph.D. programme will be based on:
• Successful completion of Pre Ph.D. programme
• Recommendation of the Evaluation Committee
• Approval of the Ph.D. Registration Committee
Note:

Prior to registration, the student should furnish original certificates / documents and credentials that will be prescribed by JU from time to time.
Progress Report

The Scholar should submit the progress report in the prescribed format to the Guide for his / her approval every 6 months. Non submission of two consecutive reports will result in cancellation of registration.

Work in Progress Seminar

The Scholar will be required to participate in an open seminar once in 6 months as per the Calendar notified by the University, wherein he shall present the progress made by him/her in his/her chosen area of Research.

• The candidate should submit his / her application to the University, in the prescribed form with a DD of 1000/- INR in the favour of Jain University, payable at Bangalore, along with other necessary documents; viz., degree certificate, marks cards and such other documents prescribed along with receipt for having paid the prescribed fee. In case of employed candidates, no objection / deputation certificate from the employer, for pursuing research is necessary.

   
• The candidate should submit two copies of the synopsis of the proposed research along with his / her application

• Eligible candidates will be required to take up a Pre Ph.D. Entrance examination comprising an Aptitude Test, a Subject Paper and an Interview

• Faculty members of Jain University or other recognized Universities / Institutions and candidates who have passed UGC / CSIR/ NET/ SLET / GATE examination / M. Phil. programme shall be exempted from the Written Test; but they will need to take up the Interview

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA :
An applicant possessing any one of the following qualifications shall be eligible to apply for admission to a PhD programme of the University.

(ii) (b) Applicants with MBBS Degree (approved by MCI) with either 60% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of three years or 50% or more marks in aggregate and a minimum of 15 years relevant experience in Recognized Govt. Hospital / Organization may be considered eligible for admission on the recommendation of SRC and approval by the BOS.

(iii) For applicants belonging to SC/ST category and/or physically handicapped applicants, a relaxation of 5% in marks shall be admissible under eligibility conditions.

(iv) Teachers working in any University or its affiliated colleges and having a teaching / research / other relevant experience of not less than 3 years may be allowed a relaxation of 5% marks under clause (i) provided that out of the two relaxations stipulated under clauses (iii) and (iv), only one relaxation is permissible for an applicant.

(v) Perspective Research Candidate generally shall not have completed an age of 55 years at the time of submission of application for registration for PhD. A relaxation in the prescribed age beyond 55 years can, however be recommended by the SRC / BOS recording appropriate justification for the approval by the Vice-Chancellor.

(1) An applicant should possess the following qualifications in appropriate areas to be eligible to apply for admission for the PhD programme of the Institute.

(a) Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Urban & Rural Planning / Pharmacy / Computer Applications of 3 years duration after graduation in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) where marks are awarded.

OR

(b) Master’s degree in Sciences/Humanities & Social Sciences/ Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a valid NET (CSIR / UGC) / NET (LS) or valid GATE or valid GPAT score and minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute where letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks where marks are awarded.
OR

(c) BTech / BArch degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 70% marks) and in possession of a valid GATE score.

(2) The admission eligibility requirements may be relaxed to 5.5 on a 10 point scale or equivalent, or to 55% marks to the following categories:

a. SC / ST candidates with Master’s degree.
b. Any category of PD (Persons with disabilities) Candidate holding BTech degree or equivalent degree.
c. Academic staff of the Institute who has an experience of more than 5 years.

(3) Eligibility for Part-time PhD

a) The applicant possesses the minimum entry qualifications for the degree as given above.

b) The applicant proves that his official duties permit him to devote sufficient time to research;

c) He / She will be required to reside at the Institute for a period of not less than 6 months during his / her registration for the degree. (This condition of minimum residence period will be automatically waived for candidates who are working in Roorkee or in Organizations / institutions located within a distance of 100 km from the Institute).

d) The facility of part time registration will also be available to all employees of the IIT Roorkee or candidates working in organizations having MoU with IITR or organizations approved by IIT Roorkee as Research Centres. Such applicants are exempted from the requirement of having valid GATE / NET / GPAT.

e) The applicants must have been in continuous service with the sponsoring organization for at least two years at the time of submitting the application form for admission

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP:

2. After two years of research experience, their performance will be evaluated by a review committee constituted by Director IIST. Based on the review, the fellowship amount may be enhanced to Rs. 18,000 / Rs. 20,000 respectively.

4. The scholars will have to pay tuition / registration fee and fee for the boarding / lodging / medical facilities etc., as per IIST rules.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
1. Applications in the prescribed format will be received till 30 March, 2012.
2. Candidates will be short-listed based on Academic records and other relevant criteria like research experience, National Eligibility Tests, etc.
3. Selection will be based on a written test followed by an interview.
4. List of shortlisted candidates for written test and the dates of written test / interview will be displayed in IIST website by 1st week of April 2012.
5. All short-listed candidates will be required to appear for a written test in their relevant areas.
6. Written test of two hours' duration will be conducted at IIST, Trivandrum during 4th week of April 2012.
7. The written test will aim to evaluate the candidates' basic understanding of the relevant subject area. The test may contain both descriptive and objective questions.
8. Candidates qualified in the written test will be required to appear for an interview the following day.
9. Selected candidates will be intimated within a week of the final interview. Results will also be displayed in IIST website.
10. Outstation candidates will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by shortest route, or actual fare (whichever is less) for attending the test / interview.

Upon successful completion of PhD Coursework, the fellowship is extendable to a further period of three years where the fellowship paid during the first two years would be Rs.16,000/- p.m. and a contingency of Rs.10,000/- per annum. During the third year the fellowship paid will be Rs.18000/- p.m. and the annual contingency will be Rs.20,500/-. These Fellowship holders should comply with all the PhD Programme requirements of ICSSR/ISEC, from time to time.

Selection Procedure:
Preliminary screening of applications is done based on the quality of their research proposal submitted with the application. The short listed candidates will be called for a written test to be held on July 12, 2012. The list of candidates to be called for written test shall be displayed at: www.isec.ac.in on or before 15th June, 2012. Candidates qualifying the written test will be required to appear for an interview on July 13, 2012.

Eligibility:

(i) FIVE-YEAR BA, LL.B (Hons.):
Eligibility: Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 System) or equivalent Examination with 50% of marks. The candidates appearing in the 12th standard examination in March/April, 2012 can also apply.

Age: Below 21 years as on 1 July, 2012 (23 years in case of SC/ST candidates).

Total Seats: 80 [70 seats on merit through All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and 10 seats for direct admission to Foreign Nationals on merit]. Foreign Nationals to be eligible should have 65% marks in the qualifying examination.

Reservation: 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 3% for Persons with Disabilities.

Note: One additional seat for Kashmiri Migrants after approval from Governing Council of the University. The candidates have to apply, appear in the Entrance Test and fulfill the eligibility criteria as applicable.

(ii) obtained a degree in law and Masters Degree with MPhil in social sciences or humanities of any recognised university with not less than 55% marks or its equivalent, provided that candidates with qualifications in social sciences and humanities may be admitted to the programme if the research they wish to pursue interface with the discipline of law with a special focus on Public Policy or Law or
(iii) Degree in law and PhD in any discipline or
(iv) Judge of any State High Court in India with three years experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.

Applications have been invited by Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore from eligible candidates to pursue PhD programme in specialized areas of Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences for the Academic Year 2012.

Eligibility:
(i) Qualification:
For Physics candidates: MSc degree in Physics with a minimum of 60% marks, and who have cleared Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST 2012).
For Chemistry and Life Sciences candidates: MSc degree with minimum 60% marks, in Chemistry or Life Sciences, and who have cleared joint CSIR-UGC Net-June.2011 and / or Gate 2012, are eligible to apply. Candidates with MSc in Botany / Agricultural science should not apply.

Those applicants who are completing MSc summer of 2012 can also apply, provided they have = 60% overall marks in the completed semesters. In the event of selection, mark sheet of the final MSc result would have to be submitted by November 1, 2012. Continuation in the PhD programme will be subject to the candidate obtaining minimum 60% marks overall. 5 year integrated MS (of IISERs) will be treated at par with 5 year integrated MSc

(ii) Age limit: The candidates desirous of availing DAE fellowship should be born on or after August 1, 1986. The age limit is relaxable by three years for OBC and by five years for SC/ST applicants.
(iii) Nationality: Applicant must be an Indian citizen.

Selection process:
The selection of the students for the PhD programme will be a two-step process: 1) Screening of short-list candidates, followed by 2) Interview of the short-listed candidates.
For Physics candidates, the short-list shall be prepared based on applicant's score in JEST 2012.

For Chemistry and Life Sciences candidates, the short-list shall be prepared based on applicant's score in CSIR-UGC Net-June 2010 and / or GATE-2012.

Short-listed Physics candidates shall be called for interview to be conducted tentatively on May 15, 16, 17 & June 19, 20, 21, 2012, at RRCAT, Indore. Short-listed Chemistry and Life Sciences candidates shall be called for interview to be conducted tentatively on May 15, 16, 17, 2012. The applicant must indicate choice of their interview date in the application form, failing which they will have to appear for interview on one of the above dates assigned by RRCAT.

Outstation applicants called for interview will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by the shortest route or the actual fare, whichever is less. This is subject to the verification of their eligibility from the original documents before the interview.
