P.G. Diploma in Knowledge Management, Admissions 2011-2012


The Department of Futures Studies of the University of Kerala is conducting a P.G. Diploma programme in Knowledge Management. A UGC innovative programme – it is of one year duration. The Department of Futures Studies established by UGC in 1990-91 has won the credit of introducing M.Tech in Technology Management for the first time in India. An interdisciplinary M.Phil in Futures Studies and Ph.D. program are offered by the Department.

The Department has a strong base to carry out interdisciplinary research covering technology forecasting/management, system modeling, mathematical modeling like epidemiological modeling, knowledge management etc. Also in the research arena, the Department is fast becoming an international player in the field of discrete mathematics. The Department has been partnering with University of Maribor, Slovenia and Erasmus University, Netherlands and is having exchange programs for the last seven years.

About the Programme :
There is probably no segment of activity in the world attracting as much attention at present as that of knowledge management. According to Evalueserve, a global market research and Intellectual Property services firm and a pioneer in providing Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) services, KPO is estimated to reach USD 50 billion by 2012, out of which 70% would be outsourced to India. The transition of the world into knowledge economy, the demand for knowledge workers are steadily increasing. Thus the scope of the new course would be to provide training in the knowledge domain so that the trained manpower can straightaway become part and parcel of the companies concerned.

Eligibility for admission
Graduates in Engineering/Technology, Medicine, Post Graduates in Science and Applied Sciences with not less than 55% marks for the qualifying examination.

Selection Procedure
Admission to the course is based on performance in the qualifying degree and the entrance test. Equal weightage (50%) would be given for qualifying degree and entrance test. The entrance test shall consist of multiple choice questions to test the applicant's aptitude in databases, data interpretation and analysis, logic & reasoning, comprehension and general awareness.

How to apply
Application can be obtained from the Head of the Department of Futures Studies by producing a DD for Rs. 300/- (including cost of application) from SBT/SBI/Dist. Co-operative bank drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, University of Kerala or a University Chalan for Rs. 300/-. A self addressed stamped envelope for Rs. 10/- should be sent along with the request for application. Application form can also be downloaded from the Kerala University website. The completed application should reach the Head of the Department on or before 15th July 2011.

Fee Structure
The total course fee is Rs. 19555/-. (Semester I - Rs. 10205/- , Semester II – Rs. 7350/- and Department Development Fund of Rs. 2000/-).
