Applications are
invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme, starting in
December-2012 in the following Dept
Civil
and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics,
Humanities and Social Sciences, Inter-Disciplinary Research
Eligibility
Criteria:
In all the disciplines, the upper age limit is 28 years (B.Tech/ B.E./ M.Sc/
M.A./ MCA/ MBA) and 32 years (M.Tech/ M.E./ M.S./ M.Phil) and is applicable
only for candidates applying in regular and full time category (Institute
Fellows)
Upper
age is relaxed upto 05 years in case of candidate belonging to
SC/ST/Women/PH/OBC applicants
For admission to
the Ph.D programme in Engineering Dept, a candidate must satisfy one of the
following criteria
Candidates
having M.Tech/M.E. degree in Engineering/Technology, with a minimum CPI of 6.5
or 60% of marks
Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other than IITs) in a
relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks
Bachelor’s
degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a
minimum CPI of 7.0
Master’s
degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70%
For admission to
the Ph.D programme in Science departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the
following criteria
M.Phil
or Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or
60% of marks
Master’s
degree in Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5
or 60% of Marks
Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering/Technology from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0
Bachelor’s
degree in a related area in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other
than IITs/IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks
For admission to
the Ph.D Programme in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), a
candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria
M.Phil
or Master’s degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum
of 55% marks or equivalent
Master’s
degree in Engineering/Technology/Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI
of 6.5 or 60% marks
Bachelor’s
degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a
minimum CPI of 7.0
Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other than IITs/IISc) in a
relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 80% marks
Direct
Admission:
The Institute may admit exceptionally bright students and full-time (Institute
Fellows) directly into the Ph.D program if they secured the top rank in the
last qualifying degree from a reputed Institute/University including but not
limited to the IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIM, NITIE, IISER, NIT, NISER
Relaxation: Eligibility
criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST applicants
Reservations: The reservation
of seats in admissions for SC/ST/OBC/PwD will be as per Govt of India rules
OBC
(non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration
statement as per formats
Selection: The Institute
reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test or/
and interview, based on performance in GATE/NET, grades/marks in the qualifying
examination, etc

Procedure: Prescribed application form can be downloaded from website www.iitp.ac.in (DOC format, PDF format)
Application
form can also be obtained from the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of
Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna-800013, Bihar, on or before 08th
October, 2012 by ordinary post or in person
To
receive application forms by post, send a request along with a self addressed,
stamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size)
Request
for form must be sent in an envelope super scribed with request for Ph.D
application form Filled in application forms complete with attested copies of
mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials (both sides) and a demand draft
for Rs. 300/- for General/OBC candidates and Rs 150/- for SC/ST/PD candidates
drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favour of IIT Patna should be sent to the Assistant Registrar
(Academic), Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony,
Patna-800013, Bihar, to reach on or before 17th October, 2012
