Applications
are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme,
starting in December 2012 in the following Departments. The areas of research
in IIT Patna are as follows:

Eligibility
Criteria for Admission in to PhD Programme:
In
all the disciplines, the upper age limit is 28 years (BTech / BE / MSc / MA /
MCA / MBA) and 32 years (MTech / ME / MS / MPhil) and is applicable only for
candidates applying in Regular and Full time category (Institute Fellows).
Relaxation
for SC / ST Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5
CPI for SC / ST applicants.
PhD
in Engineering:
Candidates
having MTech / ME degree in a Engineering / Technology, with a minimum CPI of
6.5 or 60% of marks OR
Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering / Technology (from any Institute other than IITs) in a
relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks OR
Bachelor’s
degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a
minimum CPI of 7.0 OR
Master’s
degree in Science from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant
area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70%.
PhD
in Science:
Master’s
degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks
OR
Master’s
degree in Science / Engineering / Technology in a relevant area with a minimum
CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR
Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering / Technology from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR
Bachelor’s
degree in a related area in Engineering / Technology (from any Institute other
than IITs / IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks.
PhD
in Humanities and Social Sciences:
Master’s
degree in Arts / Commerce / Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55%
marks or equivalent OR
Master’s
degree in Engineering / Technology / Science in a relevant area with a minimum
CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks OR
Bachelor’s
degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a
minimum CPI of 7.0 OR
Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering / Technology (from any Institute other than IITs / IISc)
in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 80% marks.

Application
form can also be obtained from the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of
Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna - 800 013, Bihar, on or before
08-10-2012 by ordinary post or in person. To receive application forms by post,
send a request along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (24cm x 15cm
size). Request for form must be sent in an envelope super scribed with ‘Request
for PhD Application form’.
Filled
in application forms complete with attested copies of mark sheets /
certificates and other testimonials (both sides) and a Demand Draft for Rs.
300/- for General / OBC candidates and Rs. 150/- for SC / ST / PD candidates
drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favour of IIT Patna
should be sent to the Assistant Registrar (Academic), Indian Institute of
Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna - 800 013, Bihar, to reach on or before
17-10-2012. The words 'Application for PhD admission in the
Department of _________' should be written on the top of the envelope for
sending the completed form.
Selection:
The
Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written
test or/ and interview, based on performance in GATE/NET, grades/marks in the
qualifying examination, etc.

of Issue of Application Forms: 14-09-2012 onwards
Last
Date for issuing Application Forms is: 08-10-2012 (by post / in person)
Last
Date for receipt of completed Application Forms by IIT Patna is: 17-10-2012

08-10-2012.
