Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Major
research areas include foundry, forge, manufacturing engineering, materials
science, metallurgical engineering, ceramics, environmental science and
engineering, computational materials engineering, Nano materials, thin films
and pure and applied sciences.
Advanced Diploma Course (ADC - 3 semesters/18 months)

ELIGIBILITY
(a) Doctor
of Philosophy (PhD): M. E./M. Tech. from a recognized institute/university
in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Production, Chemical, Industrial Engineering and
allied disciplines with at least 6.5 CGPA (or 60% marks) in aggregate.
OR
B.
E./B. Tech. or its equivalent from a recognized institute/university in
Mechanical, Metallurgy, Production, Chemical, Industrial Engineering and allied
disciplines with at least 7.5 CGPA (or 70% marks) in aggregate.
OR
M.
Sc. or equivalent from a recognized institute/university in the relevant
discipline with at least 6.5 CGPA (or 60% marks) in aggregate.
Note:
To be eligible for Institute
scholarship, a valid GATE score/NET qualification is mandatory for candidates
not possessing M. E./M. Tech. degree.
(b) Advanced
Diploma Courses (ADC): Diploma in Automobile / Metallurgical/ Mechanical/
Production / Manufacturing Engineering / B.Sc. degree with Physics, Chemistry
and Mathematics with 50% marks.
(c)
In all programmes, a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA (or 5% marks) is allowed for
candidates belonging to the SC/ST category.
(d)
Those appearing in the final examination may also apply. However, such
candidates will have to produce all the relevant documents within 60 days from
the date of admission. No further extension will be allowed beyond the
stipulated period under any circumstances and his/her admission will be
cancelled.
(e)
Few seats are available in ADC for sponsored candidates.
SCHOLARSHIP
/ STIPEND
(a) Doctor of
Philosophy (PhD): `18,000/- per
month for the first two years and `20,000/- per month for the 3rd and 4th years for
candidates admitted with Institute scholarship.
(b) Advanced
Diploma Courses (ADC): `1,000/- per month for all selected candidates.
(c)
No scholarship for sponsored candidates.
HOW
TO APPLY
(a)
The application forms and information brochure can be obtained by sending
requisite application fee, in the form of DD drawn on any Nationalized Bank in
favor of National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology payable at Ranchi
along with a self-addressed, stamped (Rs. 45.00) envelope of 28×16 cm size,
to the Dean (Academic). The application forms and information brochure
can also be obtained in person from the academic section of the Institute by
producing DD towards application fee. Alternatively, the application form and
information brochure can be downloaded from the Institute Website also.
(b) Application
Fee
PhD: `1000.00 for General/OBC and `500.00 for SC/ST.
ADC: `500.00 for General/OBC and `250.00 for SC/ST.
(c)
Filled applications with all supporting documents may be sent to Dean
(Academic), NIFFT, Hatia, Ranchi - 834 003. The application forms
downloaded from the Institute website must be accompanied with the requisite
application fee in the form of DD drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favor of National
Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology payable at Ranchi.
(d)
The Institute will not be responsible for any postal delays/loss.
(e) Candidates
for PhD, desirous of applying for more than one Department should submit
separate application with requisite application fee for each department.
(f) The
Institute reserves the right to reject any application without assigning any
reasons therein.
SELECTION
PROCESS AND RESERVATION
(a) PhD:
Screening and interview. List of shortlisted candidates and the dates of
screening test and/or interview will be announced later in the Institute
website only. No postal communication will be sent in this regard.
(b) ADC:
Written test will be held at Ranchi (NIFFT) on 07/07/2013 (Sunday,
10.00 AM - 01.00 PM). The following centers may also be available (subject
to receipt of sufficient applications): Hyderabad, Kolkata, New Delhi and
Pune.
(c)
Reservations as per Govt. of India rules.

(b) Issue of applications (ADC) : 24/04/2013 onwards
(c) Last date for receipt of completed applications for both courses
: 07/06/2013; 05.00 PM.
