Animal Sciences for the year 2013-14.
Master of Science in Biostatistics
Bio-Statistics
has emerged as an important branch of statistical sciences and aid in
strengthening research in the disciplines of biology, biomedical, health,
veterinary and animal sciences. This course is an interdisciplinary
postgraduate course combining statistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology and
health sciences. The course will enable the students to become
biostatisticians, biostatistical programmers, SAS programmers, consultants and
research associates in industry, hospitals, public health labs, planning and
research departments, clinical research and pharma industry, universities and
government institutions.
Bachelors
degree in Statistics / Mathematics / Engineering / Science with Mathematics as
optional subject at higher secondary level can apply for the programme
Master of Science in Quality
Systems in Dairy Processing
Now a days
consumers are concerned about the safety of milk and milk products and the
condition under which these are produced.
Chemical and Microbiological safety plays a very significant role in the
quality control of milk & dairy products worldwide. Application of HACCP
system demands the safety and quality of foods which requires rapid and
automated microbiological techniques. This post graduate course is designed to
generate qualified persons to handle the emerging needs in Quality control
sector in Dairy Industry.
This course
encompasses the details on chemical and microbiological contaminants in milk,
rapid detection techniques and detection of toxins and contaminants in
foods. The course will further equip the
students and open up opportunities to undertake career in Quality management of
food products, as supporting staff for teaching, research etc.
B. Tech

Master of Science in Wildlife
Studies
Recently
the concern for conservation of wild life in situ and in captivity has
increased globally over the years. There
is a dearth of trained personnel with sufficient practical exposure to manage
real life situations involving free ranging and captive wildlife. A
post-graduate course for bioscience graduates has been designed to cater the
needs of aspiring youngsters to fulfil their dreams of research in wildlife
conservation and management. The location of the institute in Wayanad district
of Kerala makes it the ideal place for development in the wildlife study sector
and for the conduct of specialized wildlife related academic programmes like MS
(Wildlife Studies).

and Molecular Biology

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offered by Kerala Veterinary and animal
Sciences University is designed to equip students with a comprehensive
theoretical and practical knowledge of the complex mechanisms of ‘life’ as a
whole. The curriculum contains major courses on Biochemistry and molecular
biology and supporting courses on Physiology and Biostatistics. Physiology,
unravels various normal processes in the body and correlates with the
underlying biochemical mechanisms. This
programme is pivotal in complementing to the foundation of important biomedical
applications, genetic engineering, evolutionary biology, biotechnology and immunology.
Master of Science in Applied
Microbiology
Applied
microbiology focuses on the microbial world in a wide horizon. It looks at how
we can harness and manipulate the microbes in wide ranging areas of
biotechnology, pest control, bio-refineries, pharmaceutical applications, and
their potential as food supplements etc. This course is ideal for the students
who desire a career in the forefront of human, animal and plant disease and health.
The progamme is designed with courses that will nurture the skills of the
students to be qualified personnel to handle the emerging needs in the field of
microbiology and biotechnology industries, such as food safety, biomedicine,
pharmaceuticals, and diagnostic laboratories and in research institutes.
Master of Science in Animal
Sciences
The Animal
Science MSc program covers studies on global animal wealth, production trends
of ruminants, mono gastric, and poultry. Animal science study help people to
develop an understanding of the biology of domestic and captive animals, their
care, management and use them as a source for food, fiber, recreation and
companionship. The course equips students to manage animals in safe and ethical
way in tune with the needs of the industry.
Master of Science in Animal
Biotechnology
This two
year programme comprises of four semesters, leading to Master of Science degree
in Animal Biotechnology, awarded by the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences
University. The graduates of this course will be equipped modern technologies
in molecular diagnostics, genetically engineered vaccines and drugs for
veterinary use, animal tissue culture and hybridoma technology, animal genomics
and its applications, metagenomics studies, stem – cell research, wildlife
conservation, use of databases for
genomic and proteomic research, ability to apply assisted reproduction
techniques such as in vitro
fertilization, cryopreservation of embryos, gamete and embryo manipulation,
production of transgenic animals and cloning, biomolecular techniques for the
diagnosis and epidemiological studies of
animal diseases, knowledge of cellular and biochemical mechanisms in responses to biotic and abiotic stresses
including climatic change, feed biotechnology and ruminant feed utilization.

programmes
KVASU
Assistantship of Rs. 5000/- per month will be awarded to two students from each
M.S. programme, based on their rank list and academic merits.
Online
application form and prospectus for admission to the above mentioned programmes

Candidates can remit the application fee
of Rs 1000/ (Rupees One Thousand only) for general candidates and Rs500/(Rupees
Five Hundred only) for SC/ST candidates at the nearest branch of Federal Bank.
Candidates
from outside the state where Federal Bank branches are not available may remit
the application fee as DD in favor of Finance Officer, KVASU Payable at SBT,
Kalpetta Printed online application should be submitted along with attested
