ADVERTISEMENT FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMME OF
THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

Applications are invited for admission to the Department of Psychology, University of Calcutta (Rajabazar Science College, 92, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Kolkata – 700009) for Ph.D. course and subsequent research work for obtaining the Ph.D. degree in Psychology. Candidates who wish to pursue research work in the Department should apply in the prescribed application form (obtainable from the Department of Psychology) by paying Rs. 100.00 through a challan (obtainable from Cash Counter in Raja bazaar Science College Campus and College Street Campus). Duly filled application form must reach the office of the Head of the Department within 17th May, 2013.
The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of 2 hours, to be held in the Department on the 4th June, 2013 (11.00 AM to 1.00 PM). The syllabus of this examination is the UGC NET (Paper II and III) on Psychology and existing syllabus of M.A. /M.Sc. in Psychology, University of Calcutta. The results of the written test will be published on 5th June, 2013 (After 1.00 PM). The successful candidates will be called for an interview on 6th June, 2013 (After 12 o’clock). The candidates selected on the basis of interview will be considered as Probationary Ph.D. student of this department.
At present nine (9) students will be taken. Those candidates who have already passed
UGC (JRF) examination/NET/SET/SLET/Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil in Psychology or equivalent examinations need not appear for the written examination. Such candidates can directly appear for the interview but they need to submit their application forms for admission within stipulated date i.e.17th May, 2013.

GUIDELINES FOR Ph.D. APPLICANTS
The written examination for admission to Ph.D. program of the Department of Psychology would consist of the following pattern:
TOTAL MARKS – 50, DURATION OF EXAM: 2HRS

1) The candidates have to write a research proposal of 20 marks. They can use maximum 5 pages (inclusive of both sides).
2) The candidates have to answer one question (Out of six alternatives) of 10 marks from any one of six specialization areas namely Clinical psychology, Developmental psychology, Experimental psychology, Social psychology, Health psychology and Industrial psychology.
They can use maximum 2 pages (inclusive of both sides).
3) The candidates have to answer 2 questions (Out of twelve alternatives) of 5 marks each from any of the six specialization areas namely Clinical psychology, Developmental psychology, Experimental psychology, Social psychology, Health psychology and Industrial psychology. They can use maximum 1 page for each answer.
4) The candidates have to answer 5 questions (Out of ten alternatives) of 2 marks each from General psychology. Candidates have to give the answer in 4 or 5 lines.

4) Textbook by Gerow

The candidates may refer other books mentioned in the syllabus of M.A. / M.Sc. in Psychology, University of Calcutta.
