COMEDK Under-Graduate Entrance Test-2014 (COMEDK UGET-2014)


The Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) will hold the COMEDK Under-Graduate Entrance Test-2014 (COMEDK UGET-2014) at Bangalore,Mysore and Tumkur districts of Karnataka State on 11th May 2014 (Sunday).

COMEDK is the test to determine the merit of students seeking admissions to the undergraduate courses in the member institutions of the Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation Trust (KPCF). There are 14 Medical, 25 Dental and more than 150 engineering colleges with about 20,000 seats for admission.

For admission to MBBS/BDS, applicant should have passed the 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent examination, recognized by State / Central Government with Physics, Chemistry and Biology(PCB) with English as a compulsory subject. The General Merit candidates must have passed these subjects (PCB) individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks taken together in PCB (40% in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State). They must also secure not less than 50% marks (40 % in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State) in aggregate in PCB in the Common Entrance Test of COMEDK UGET-2014.

English is one of the subjects to be tested along with Physics, Chemistry and Biology during COMEDK UGET-2014 and the General Merit candidates should secure not less than 50% marks in English, (40 % in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State). However, the marks so secured in English will not be added for the determination of rank list as the rank list will be drawn exclusively based on the minimum required marks secured by the candidates in PCB. A candidate is not entitled for a rank if he/she fails to secure 50% or 40% (in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State) of marks in English.

The paper on English language will be normally of 2nd PUC or 10+2 standard and will test the candidate’s comprehension of the language, the structure of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. Applicant should complete 17 years on or before 31.12.2014. Those who have passed the qualifying examination prior to 2012 are not eligible to apply. If a candidate/s on being qualified earlier, and had selected a MBBS seat in an earlier COMEDK UG entrance test and has failed to join the college selected without surrendering the seat at the COMEDK level or if the said candidate having joined the college failed to pursue his / her education, such candidates are not permitted to apply for COMEDK UGET-2014.

For admission to B.E, applicant should have passed the 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent Examination recognized by State / Central Government, with the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) with English as a compulsory subject. The General Merit Candidates should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks (40% in respect of SC, ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka State) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and should have passed these subjects individually. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology or any other Technical vocational course as one of the optional subjects.

However, if there are any changes in the eligibility criteria by the AICTE, the same will be adopted. An attempt in the Entrance Test seeking admission to Engineering courses is considered adequate for figuring in the Rank list. Diploma Candidates are not eligible to take COMEDK UGET- 2014 entrance test.

For admission to B. Arch, applicant should have passed the 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent Examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects along with other subjects or a 10+3 Diploma recognized by Central /State Government and having obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate (45%marks in case of SC, ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka).The candidate should have appeared for National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by Council of Architecture with a minimum score of 80 out of 200 for both General Merit and Category Candidates. COMEDK will not be conducting any Common Entrance Test for candidates seeking admission to B. Arch (Architecture Course) as per its existing rules.Candidates seeking B. Arch seats should submit separate application formalong with a DD of Rs. 1,000/- in favour of COMEDK.

COMEDK UGET-2014 is mandatory for all candidates seeking admissions to MBBS/BDS/B.E courses in Member Institutions of COMEDK. A merit / rank list is generated based on the candidate's scores in entrance test only.

COMEDK UGET-2014 will have the following papers:

(i) For Engineering Course: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as one paper for three hours duration.

(ii) For Medical and Dental Courses: Physics and Chemistry as one paper for two hours duration besides Biology and English as another paper for two hours duration.

(iii) For Medical/Dental and Engineering courses (Both) : Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as one paper for three hours duration besides Biology and English as another paper for two hours duration.

The Paper on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for BE will be from 10 am to 1 pm. For MBBS / BDS, the paper on Physics and Chemistry will be from 10 am to 12 noon and the paper on Biology and English from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Those appearing for both B.E and MBBS/BDS, the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics paper will be from 10 am to 1 pm and the Biology and English paper, from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. There will be 60 questions from each subject. Those appearing for BE will have to attempt 180 questions. It will be 240 for MBBS/BDS and 300 for BE and MBBS/BDS. The entrance test is based on the existing syllabus of either 10+2 or 2nd PUC.

Candidates are required to mark their answers on an OMR Answer sheet (Optical Mark Reader ).Each correct answer is awarded one mark. No Mark/s will be awarded for multiple marking (marking multiple responses) of any question. There will be no negative marking. However, in the event of a tie in the test score the principle of least negative responses (Number of wrong answers) will be adopted. In addition, if required,other methods may be adopted to break ties as given in the Prospectus.

The application fee is Rs.1200/- for 3 Subjects (PCB or PCM) (MBBS/BDS or B.E. and Rs.1500/- for 4 subjects (PCMB) (MBBS/BDS and B.E).

Those desirous of applying should have the following documents ready at hand before starting to fill up the Online Application Form.
(i) Demand Draft drawn from the nationalized banks in favour of ‘COMEDK’payable at Bangalore
(ii) 10th Standard Marks card / School Leaving Certificate indicating the candidate’s Date of Birth (required for the date of birth verification)
(iii) SC/ST/OBC or Minority Certificates (Religious/Linguistic) if any.

It must be ensured that the online application form is filled up properly and completely with all the relevant details. After re-verifying the details entered, applicant must click on submit button. Applicant should make a note of the 6-digit application number as displayed in the application form. Applicant should take a printout of the online application form along with the online study certificate requiring attestation by the head of the institution last studied. Applicant has to stick his/her recent (not older than six months) passport size colour photograph only in the space provided (all the photos must be identical). Application Form with smudged / tampered / hazy photograph will be rejected. Applicant should not staple or pin the photograph on the application form or in the online study certificate requiring attestation by the head of the institution last studied. Application should be put in A4 size envelope only without folding. The completed Application Form has to reach ‘The Executive Secretary - COMEDK, # 132, Second Floor,11th Main Road, 17th Cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore-560055, Karnataka by speed post or courier by 5 pm on 12th April 2014 (Saturday). Online Test Admission Tickets will be uploaded on 25th April, 2014.

Provisional Answer Keys, Final Answer Keys (post challenge verification) and Test Scores of all the candidates will be published on the website, www.comedk.org  as per the calendar of events.

Provisional Answer Keys will be published on 11.05.2014, late in the evening. Clarifications to the provisional answer keys, if any, should be sought between 12.5.2014 and 14.5.2014. Applicants seeking any clarifications with regard to Provisional Answer Keys have to write to COMEDK, clearly indicating the grievance and with all necessary enclosures in a prescribed format which can be downloaded from the COMEDK website. Clarification regarding provisional answer key should reach the COMEDK office by speed post / courier along with a Demand Draft of Rs.300/- per clarification, drawn in favour of ‘COMEDK’, payable at Bangalore. Final Answer Keys will be published on 24.5.2014. Only if the clarification sought is upheld, the money would be refunded in total after the COMEDK UGET 2014 process is completed.

The final merit / rank list is generated based on the scores in the entrance test and the same will be published on 4.6.2014. Online Rank Card will be available under applicant login of the COMEDK website from 4.6.2014. Candidates appearing for COMEDK UGET - 2014 counseling should download & obtain a printout of the Online Rank card. No Rank Card will be dispatched either by post or courier or in person to the candidates under any circumstances. Candidates will not be allowed to enter the counseling venue without the printout of Online Rank Card which is a mandatory document.
