PG and Ph.D Admission Notice 2014-2015

Applications are invited by South Asian University, New Delhi for admission to Master and Ph.D programmes for the fifth academic session to commence in July 2014.

Master level programmes:
    MA (Development Economics)
    M.Sc. (Computer Science)
    M.Sc. (Biotechnology)
    MA (Sociology)
    MA (International Relations)
    LLM (Master of Laws)
    M.Sc.(Applied Mathematics)

Ph.D. programmes:
    Ph.D (Economics)
    Ph.D (Computer Science)
    Ph.D (Biotechnology)
    Ph.D (Sociology)
    Ph.D (International Relations)
    Ph.D (Legal Studies)
    Ph.D (Applied Mathematics)

Eligibility criteria for admission to Master level programmes:
For admission to the Master level programmes in SAU, a minimum of 15 years’ education under 10+2+3 (i.e., 12 years schooling and 3 years Bachelor’s degree) pattern is needed. Applicants who have done 4 years’ Bachelor degree after 10+2 (12 years of schooling) are also eligible though, the Master-level programme will be of two years’ duration for them also. Applicants who have obtained Bachelor’s degree in less than 15 years (e.g., under 10+2+2 pattern) will not be eligible for admission to SAU’s Master-level programmes. However, students who have done 2-year’s Bachelor degree and thereafter have also completed 1st year of M.A./M.Sc., can apply for admission to a Master-level course at SAU subject to their fulfilling other prescribed eligibility conditions including percentage of marks which will be average of marks obtained in bachelor degree and 1st year of M.A./M.Sc. course.

For admission to the LL.M Programme of study in SAU, a minimum of 18 years’ education (12 years’ schooling + 3 year Bachelors’ degree + 3 year LL.B degree with prescribed percentage of marks) is the minimum prescribed eligibility. Candidates who have done 12 years of schooling and an integrated LL.B degree of 4/5 years’ duration with prescribed percentage of marks are also eligible.

For admission to M.A (Development Economics), M.A (Sociology) and M.A (International Relations) Programmes of study, the minimum prescribed eligibility percentage in Bachelor’s degree, is 50% and for M.Sc. (Applied Mathematics), M.Sc. (Biotechnology) and M.Sc (Computer Science) programmes of study, the minimum eligibility percentage in Bachelor’s degree is 55%. For LL.M Programme of study, the minimum prescribed eligibility percentage in LL.B degree is 50%.

Applicants who have not yet completed the Bachelor’s degree, and shall be appearing for their last year / semester exam for Bachelor’s degree, may also apply for admission to Master degree programmes and appear in the entrance examination provisionally.

Eligibility criteria for admission to Ph.D. programmes:
For admission to Ph.D level Programmes of study in SAU, a minimum 17 years’ education (12 years’ schooling + 3 year Bachelor’s degree + 2 year Master’s degree with prescribed percentage of marks) is the minimum prescribed eligibility.
For Ph.D (Legal Studies) those who have done one-year LL.M degree with the prescribed percentage of marks are also eligible.
For admission to Ph.D (Economics), Ph.D (Sociology), Ph.D (International Relations), and Ph.D (Legal Studies), the minimum prescribed eligibility percentage in Master’s degree is 50%; and for Ph.D (Applied Mathematics), Ph.D (Biotechnology), Ph.D (Computer Science), the minimum prescribed eligibility percentage in Master’s degree is 55%.

Applicants who have not completed their Master’s degree and shall be appearing for their last year/semester exam for Master’s degree may also apply for admission to Ph.D Programmes and appear in the Entrance Examination. If selected, their admission will be subject to their fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria of aggregate percentage of marks in Master’s degree.

Please note that such candidates are given a provisional chance in anticipation of their qualifying degree examination with prescribed percentage of marks/grades and they will not have an automatic claim to admission.

2. Paper Application
Applications can also be made through regular post or courier by downloading from link: http://www.sau.ac.in/admission/Downloads/AdmissionForm.pdf
and completing the application form from this website. In this case the entrance exam fee needs to be paid through a demand draft.

Complete the application form and submit it by Post / Courier to the following address by the fixed deadline of March 03, 2014.

Entrance Examination:
The venues where the entrance test will be conducted on April 6, 2014 in main cities of all SAARC countries are: Kabul (Afghanistan), Chittagong and Dhaka (Bangladesh), Thimphu (Bhutan), Male (Maldives), Kathmandu (Nepal), Karachi and Lahore (Pakistan), Colombo (Sri Lanka) and (India): Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna (Khagol) and Thiruvananthapuram. Admit Cards will be sent to the applicants by email for taking the Entrance Test.
