Energy Biosciences Overseas Fellowship 2010-2011

Opportunity for Scientist of Indian Origin

Continuous Induction Program throughout year.

Energy Biosciences Overseas Fellowships", a re-entry scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Objective-:

The scheme is aimed at bringing back scientists of Indian origin working outside the country in the fields of energy related biological sciences and other areas related to bioenergy, and who are desirous of pursuing R&D in an Indian institution.

Eligibility-:

The applicant should possess a Ph. D in relevant areas and/or an outstanding track record reflected in publications and other recognitions.
3. Only candidate of Indian origin working overseas are eligible to apply. Those who have already returned to India and are working in India are not eligible.

About the fellowship-:

Energy Biosciences Overseas Fellows can take up fellowship at any of the scientific institutes/ university in India and the application should be supported by the competent authority of the host Institute.

Selected awardees will receive a fellowship amount of Rs. 75,000/ pm (consolidated) and a contingency grant of Rs. 5,00,000 / year for purchase of consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, engaging manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project. However, the host institute/university where applicant proposes to work can consider giving additional benefits (e.g. HRA/housing, medical allowance, leave travel allowance and other benefits) as applicable to regular faculty.

In case an awardee finds a suitable permanent position during the tenure of the fellowship at any research institute/ university, he or she can take up the job. In that case, he/she will have to opt for either the fellowship or salary. However, she/he can continue to avail the contingency grant with prior approval of DBT.

Awardees are also eligible to apply for research grants to any of the funding agencies. However, the Co-PI has to be a permanent employee of the host institution.

Duration-:

The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of 5 years. In exceptional cases, the duration of the award may be extended by another 5 years.

Under Continuous Induction Program, application for "Energy Biosciences Overseas Fellowship" position can be sent throughout year. Applications received on or before following dates shall be considered in ensuing phase.

Mexican Government Scholarships for Indians 2011

The Government of Mexico have offered 3 scholarships for Indian nationals for the year 2011 for studies at a Mexican University or any institution of higher education in Mexico. The scholarships would be available for studies in the following subject fields:


1. Agriculture
2. Biotechnology
3. Information Technology
4. Electronics Engineering


If Spanish is not the applicant's native language, proof of advanced knowledge of Spanish issued by a university or language learning center must be attached.


LEVEL OF STUDY: Post-graduate and Ph.D.

QUALIFICATION: Should have Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with having a minimum cumulative grade average of 8 on a scale of 0-10, in relevant subject for Post-graduate studies. The candidate should have Post-graduate Degree with having a minimum cumulative grade average of 8 on a scale of 0-10 in relevant subject for Ph.D.

Receiving academic acceptance from the host Mexican institute.

Scholarships Benefits:

Enrollment and tuition in accordance with the provisions of each institution's program.

An allowance of:

1) Four times the current minimum wage in the Federal District for specialty, master's or master-level research and Spanish or Mexican culture studies. This amount is currently equivalent to $6,895.20 MKP.

2) Five times the current minimum wage in the Federal District for Ph.D.,doctoral research, postdoctoral stays, medical specialties and subspecialties, and expert and artist residencies. This amount is currently equivalent to $8,619.00 MXP.

Medical insurance covered by Mexican Social Security Institution (IMSS), starting three months after the scholarship is initiated.

Transportation from Mexico City to the host institution when the scholarship starts, and back to Mexico City upon completion of the scholarship.

To provide direct experience of Educational technology instruments such as camera to promote visual communication and creativity expression among children, CIET /NCERT is conducting an All India Photography Contest for Children in the year 2010.

The contest is open to all students/candidates of ages 12-18 years from formal, non-formal, private and government schools from all states and union territories of the country except, the relatives and wards of the employees of CIET /NCERT.

The broad themes of the photographs suggested are as follows:

For age group 12-14 years: Theme 1 -  A memorable moment of my school life and Theme 2 - Go Green Grow Green.

For age group 15-18 years: Theme 1 - Games and sports of India/ My country and Theme 2  - Seasonal or Climate Change

Best 100 entries will be awarded a certificate of merit/commendation. All entries received will be showcased on the CIET website along with the particulars of the participant in the contest.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has invited applications from candidates to appear for the Common Proficiency Test to be conducted on Sunday, 19th December, 2010 at various examination centers, all over India for admission to Chartered Accountancy (CA) course.

Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is open only to those students who have registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for the said course on or before 1st October 2010.

The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, has invited research proposals for early and accurate diagnosis of active, latent and MDR tuberculosis.

The proposals have to directly aim at developing new or evaluating existing diagnostic tools, imaging or therapeutics in clinical or population settings and aim at providing them at the primary care clinic level preferably under a programme like RNTCP.

The expected performance characteristics of Point-of-Care (POC) diagnostics are:
• Specificity and Sensitivity: Higher than existing tests
• Result Availability: Readable results within 4-6 hrs
• Specimen Processing Rate: Atleast 20 tests/day
• Specimen Options: Varied-sputum, blood, urine, saliva, CSF, tissues etc. 
• Sample Preparation: Minimum steps required (preferably = 3)
• Kit Design: Self-contained, portable, battery-operated with option for charging and requisite minimum maintenance
• Shelf-life: Atleast 24 months at temperature >35°C and in varied humidity conditions
• Cost: Affordable/Cost-effective
• Training Requirement: 2-3 days for a Field-based Health Worker

The duration of the proposal will be of two and in exceptional cases three years and all segments i.e. Academia, Industry/ies, NGOs etc individually or in consortium are encouraged to apply.

CSIR UGC NET On December 19, 2010

CSIR will hold the Joint CSIR-UGC Test on 19th December, 2010 for determining the eligibility of the Indian national candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) NET and for determining eligibility for appointment of Lecturers (NET) in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science. The award of Junior Research Fellowship (NET) to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding admission/placement in a university/national laboratory/institution of higher learning and research, as applicable.

A candidate may apply either for JRF + Lectureship both or for Lectureship (LS) only. He/She may indicate his/her preference in the O.M.R. application Form/Online Application, as the case may be. CSIR may consider candidates applying for JRF + LS for Lectureship only depending on  number of fellowships available and performance in the test subject to the condition that they fulfill the laid down eligibility criterion. If a candidate is found to be over-age for JRF (NET) he/she will automatically be considered for Lectureship (NET) only.

Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF /NET) and the second of those candidates qualifying the Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET), will be made on the basis of their performance in the above Test. Candidates qualifying for JRF (NET), will also be eligible for Lectureship (NET). The candidates qualifying for Lectureship will be eligible for recruitment as Lecturers as well as for JRF-ship in a Scheme/Project, if otherwise suitable as per the eligible criteria of that Scheme/Project. However, they will not be eligible for Regular JRF-NET Fellowship. They will be eligible to pursue Ph.D. programme with or without any fellowship other than JRF-NET. Candidates qualifying for the award of JRF (NET) will receive fellowship either from CSIR or UGC as per their assignment or from the Schemes with which they may find association. The candidates declared eligible for Junior Research Fellowship under UGC scheme will be governed by UGC rules/regulations in this regard.

The final result of this test may be declared sometime in the month of June/July 2011 and fellowship to successful candidates . The result of Paper-I of last June, 2010 NET has been declared and can be seen on CSIR website

Subjects of the test

The test will be held in the subjects as given under Chemical Science, Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences

Education Qualification

M.Sc or equivalent degree under the subjects mentioned above, with minimum 55% marks for General and OBC candidates; 50% for SC/ST candidates, Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates and Ph.D. degree holders who had passed Master's degree prior to 19th September 1991.

A candidate can also apply for the Test under RA (Result Awaited) category, if he/she is appearing or has appeared in his/her final year (III/IV Semester where Semester system is there) of M.Sc. or equivalent degree examination in subjects mentioned in above during the academic session 2009-2010. Such candidates will have to submit the attestation format (given at the reverse of the application form) duly certified by the Head of the Deptt./Institute over his/her signature and rubber stamp (with address and name) from where the candidate is appearing or has appeared in the final year M.SC or equivalent degree examination. However, such candidates shall be admitted to the Test provisionally. They shall only be considered eligible for JRF-(NET)/LS-(NET), if they are able to produce the proof of having passed the Master's Degree examination in the relevant or related subject with the requisite percentage of marks and within the stipulated time frame.

Age limit and relaxation

For JRF (NET): Minimum 19 years and maximum 28 years as on 01.07.2009 (upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC, Physically handicapped/Visually handicapped and female applicants.

For LS (NET): Minimum 19 years as on 01.07.2010. No upper age limit.

Date and scheme of the CSIR UGC Test :

The test will be held in two sessions on Sunday, the 19th December 2010.

The scheme of Examination as under

Paper I - Marks : 200, Timings : 10.00 a.m.-12.30 p.m., Duration : 2-1/2 hrs

Paper II - Marks : 200, Timings : 2.00 p.m.-4.30 p.m., Duration : 2-1/2 hrs

Negative marking will be made for wrong answers in Paper I. Paper II will be evaluated only in case of those candidates who will be able to secure a minimum of such aggregate marks in Paper-I as may be fixed by the CSIR.

Candidates are required to appear in both the papers. A candidate who does not appear in Paper I will not be permitted to appear in Paper II. The questions in papers-I & II will appear both in Hindi and English.

How to apply

The candidate desirous to apply online will be required to deposit examination fee through bank challan in any of the Indian bank branches throughout the country.

CSIR Fellowships/Associateships are tenable in Universities/ IITs/ Post-Graduate Colleges/ Govt Research Establishments including those of CSIR, R&D establishments of recognized public or private sector, industrial firms and other recognized institutions. However, CSIR reserves the right to determine the place best suited to provide necessary facilities in the area of science and technology in which the awardee is to specialize.

Selection procedure: The selection for award of JRF shall be made on the basis of a competitive written test called the National Eligibility Test (NET), conducted by CSIR at national level and consisting of two papers.

The candidates who qualify in the test are informed individually after the result is finalized. The Fellowship is awarded on receipt of necessary details of the qualifying degree examination, place of work, research topic, the name of supervisor and the concurrence of the Institution to provide all the necessary facilities. The validity of the offer of this award will be one year. The candidate is expected to register for Ph.D degree within a period of one year from the date of joining

Stipend and Tenure: The stipend of a JRF selected through the all India test will be Rs 12,000/ p.m. for a period of 2 years. In addition, annual contingent grant of Rs 20,000/- per fellow will be provided to  the University/Institution.
