BITS Admission Test-2010' (BITSAT-2010)
Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has invited applications for admission to the Integrated First Degree programmes at Pilani Campus, Goa Campus, and Hyderabad Campus for the academic year 2010-11. Admissions will be made on the basis of 'BITS Admission Test-2010' (BITSAT-2010), a Computer based Online Test.
Programmes: Integrated First Degree Programmes to which admissions will be made on the basis of BITSAT-2010 are as follows:
(i) Pilani Campus: B.E (Hons.): Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Mechanical, Manufacturing; B.Pharm (Hons.); M.Sc (Hons.): Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics and M.Sc (Tech.): General Studies, Finance, Information Systems.
(ii) Goa Campus: B.E (Hons): Chemical, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Mechanical; M.Sc (Hons): Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics and M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems.
(iii) Hyderabad Campus: B.E (Hons.): Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical; B.Pharm (Hons.); M.Sc.(Hons.): Biological Sciences, Chemistry; Economics, Mathematics, Physics and M.Sc.(Tech.): Information Systems.
Those admitted to M.Sc (Hons) Programmes are given an option to work for a second Degree for one of the B.E. (Hons)/B.Pharm(Hons) Programmes under the Dual Degree scheme, assignment being made by competition on their performance at BITS at the end of first year, separately in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses. Under this scheme, a student normally requires five years to complete both the Degrees and is awarded both the Degrees, namely M.Sc.(Hons.) and B.E.(Hons.)/B.Pharm.(Hons.)
Eligibility: Applicants for admission to any of the Integrated First Degree Programmes, should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central/State Board or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics securing a minimum aggregate of 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics together, with at least 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and should have adequate proficiency in English. Only those appearing for 12th examination in 2010 or who have passed 12th Examination in 2009 are eligible to appear for BITSAT-2010. If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th Class/equivalent, only the latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of subjects/courses prescribed. Those who have passed 12th examination in 2008 or earlier are not eligible to appear for BITSAT-2010. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2010.Admissions will be made purely on merit, based on the score obtained in BITSAT-2010.
Direct Admission to Board Toppers: First rank holders of all Central and State Boards in India for 2010 will be given direct admission to Programme of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2010 score as per the eligibility criteria. Details about this scheme will be available at BITS website by 20th May, 2010.
Applications for BITSAT : Application can be submitted online at http://www.bitsadmission.com. A print out of the filled form has to be taken. The completed application form along with the prescribed fees of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for female candidates) paid as per the details for payment of fees available at the website, should be sent to Admissions Officer, BITS, Pilani, Rajasthan-333 031.
Application form can also be obtained by Post from the Admissions Office, BITS, Pilani till 21st January, 2010, by sending a request on plain paper giving the Name, Gender and complete postal address of the applicant, along with a Crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 1100/- (Rs. 600/- for female candidates) drawn in favour of 'Birla Institute of Technology & Science', payable at State Bank of India, Pilani (code: 11309)/State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, Pilani (Code: 10398)/UCO Bank, Vidya Vihar, Pilani (Code: 0150)/ICICI Bank, Jhunjhunu (Code: 0799).
Completed form of BITSAT-2010 should reach Admissions Office, BITS Pilani, Rajasthan-333 031, by Registered Post/Speed Post or should be submitted personally latest by 5 pm on 30th January, 2010.
Scheme of BITSAT: In BITSAT, the 'Computer Based Online test', the candidate sits in front of a computer at the Examination Centre. Questions are presented on the computer monitor. The candidate has to answers the questions on the computer through the use of keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer.
BITSAT-2010 will be held between 10th May 2010 and 10th June 2010, at Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad City, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad Campus of BITS, Chandigarh, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Gurgaon, Coimbatore, Indore, Kolkatta, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Gwalior. Applicant can choose the Center, Day and Time of his/her convenience to take the test. Test center allotment and announcement to candidates will be made by the 15th of February, 2010.Candidates are to reserve Test dates between 18th February, 2010 and 10th March, 2010. Hall tickets with instructions have to be downloaded from the website during 10th April, 2010 to 30th April, 2010.
BITSAT-2010 will be conducted on the basis of NCERT syllabus for 11th and 12th classes. The detailed syllabus is available at the website. Sample test will be made available to the registered candidates at the BITS website on which he/she can practice as many times as desired.
BITSAT-2010 will be of 3-hour duration (without break) and will consist of 150 objective type (multiple choice questions) in four parts, namely Physics (Part I-40 questions), Chemistry (Part II-40 questions), English Proficiency (15 questions) and Logical Reasoning (10 questions) (Part III) and Mathematics (Part IV-45 questions). Each question will have four answers, of which only one will be correct. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1mark). No marks are awarded for questions not attempted. Candidate can skip a question.
But the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as correct answer. There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers among the 150 questions. If a candidate answers all the 150 questions, without skipping any question, the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics only, with four questions from each part. Once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the 150 questions answered earlier.
At the completion of the test, the computer will announce the result to the candidate in terms of number of total correct answers and wrong answers, with the score. The candidate can also check and print the score report at the BITS website after all the tests are completed. No student will be allowed to repeat the test in the same year.
Procedure for Applying for admission: All candidates who have appeared in BITSAT-2010 and are interested in admission will be required to submit Admission application with 12th marks and preferences to different degree programmes offered, on or before 30th June, 2010.
The prescribed application form for admission, the detailed application procedure and the final list of Degree Programmes offered will be available at the BITS website, by 20th May 2010. In addition to applying for and appearing in BITSAT-2010 now, candidates have to also apply for admission to BITS giving details of their 12th marks and preferences to different degree Programmes offered, then. The completed form with the required application fee has to reach 'The Admissions Officer, BITS Pilani, Rajasthan-333 031, by Registered Post/Speed Post or personally submitted, latest by 5 pm on 30th June, 2010.
