THE HINDU – HITACHI SCHOLARSHIPS 2014

In association with Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, THE HINDU invites applications for scholarships for technical training in JAPAN. The number of scholarships will be three. The terms and conditions are as follows:
1. Candidates who must be Indian Citizens, should not have completed 30 years of age on 31-03-2013 and should be in possession of the minimum Degree of B.E., or B.Sc. (Engg.) or its equivalent from any recognized University. Candidates who have already had practical experience in the branches for which training is proposed to be given, will be given preference. Candidates with at least one year’s professional experience need apply. Those who were interviewed in previous years for the Scholarships need not apply again.
2. The scholarships are tenable in Japan for principally six months commencing about July 2013. Trainees may have general training in one of the following product fields of Hitachi Ltd., (Hitachi) for example (1) IT Solutions and Services (2) Thermal Power (3) Power Generation Plant & Power Grid Control Systems Engineering 4) Rail Systems and 5) Transportation Control System Engineering, being subject to the convenience of each of Hitachi’s establishments. During the training, there will be special emphasis on environment-related and energy-saving technologies.
3. Trainees shall be during their training, under the supervision and direction of Hitachi, which has full discretion on scope, mode, duration and place of establishment of their training. Training will not be available in the R&D activities of Hitachi. They will be subject to the rules and regulations and the discipline of the establishment to which they are posted.
4. Selected trainees will be provided with return Economy Class air passage. Arrangements will also be made for free Boarding and Lodging for trainees in Japan and to defray all expenses for travelling in Japan which may be considered necessary for their training.

In addition, each trainee will be paid a monthly fixed allowance to cover his personal expenses.
5. Parents or Guardians of selected candidates shall guarantee their good conduct and shall undertake to pay for their repatriation should their conduct be found unsatisfactory by Hitachi Ltd., or any public authority in Japan or in case the selected candidates desire to discontinue their studies in Japan for any reason whatsoever during the period of their scholarship.

Selection Procedure
The admission to Ph.D. Programme will be on the basis of weightage as given below: a) Overall academic performance (to be fixed by the Institute) 70%

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS

The admission process requires a candidate to opt for one of the 4 following alternatives.

Apply online to take the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT)

Instead of taking the XAT, FPM candidates can also apply for the XLRI Research Aptitude Test (XL-RAP) which is conducted on Sunday February 2, 2014.
FPM aspirants can also submit GMAT/GRE/GATE/UGC JRF (Research/Net) results taken during the year December 1, 2011 and December 20, 2013.
Those who have done their PGP or one year full time GMP/PGPX/Executive PGP from XLRI, any IIMs, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, XIM Bhubaneswar, IRMA, SP Jain, PG students from IITS, NITs, TIFR, TISS and other comparable Institutes, with a CQPI of at least 6.00/8.00 or equivalent will also be exempted from appearing in the XAT.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for a personal interview during March-April, 2014 at XLRI, Jamshedpur for the final selection.

The PGSS Programme (PGSSP) provides an opportunity for professionals in the Hyderabad area to benefit from the advanced courses offered at the institute. The post-graduate status can be accorded to a professional on the basis of his or her academic and experience record. Once someone is awarded the PG status, he or she can take a maximum of two courses at the institute every semester. This provides him or her with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge in chosen areas without committing to a formal programme. The courses taken under the PGSSP scheme can count towards a formal degree from the institute, should the student join one of the full-time or part-time programmes subsequently.


Eligibility
The basic eligibility for applying to this programme is that he / she should be a resident of Hyderabad( to produce NOC certificate so that a candidate can attend the classes in the office hours). The candidate has to attend the classes within week days ( Mon - Sat ). The classes for the courses selected will be conducted twice or thrice a week. Attendance for the classes is mandatory. The candidates should take minimum of one subject and maximum of two subjects in PGSSP.

Admission to the PGSSP is based on the academic and professional record of the applicants. Sample qualifications include: a Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering, MCA, or a Masters degree in Science/Mathematics. Professionals with 1 or more years of experience in software design and development may also apply.

PGSSP students are free to register for any course in the institute for which they satisfy the prerequisites. Fees
An application fee of Rs. 1000/- is to be paid at the time of on-line registration by entering the DD Number and other details. Send the registration fee of Rs.1000/- through DD in favour of "IIIT Hyderabad " payable at Hyderabad to "Chair, Standing Committee, IIIT-H, Gachibowli, Hyderabad - 500 032" on or before 12th December 2013 by 4 PM.
PGSSP students must pay the student status fees, currently equal to Rs 16,000/-, to maintain the Post-Graduate Status in each semester. Each course the student registers for will be charged as per the pro-rata rates of the institute. The current pro-rata tuition fee is Rs. 4000/- per credit with a maximum of Rs 16,000/- per course. PGSSP students will have access to the institute's library and other academic resources as long as he or she is registered for at least one course.

7th POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT (PGDRDM) January 2014 to December 2014

National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) is a premier national center of excellence in rural development. It builds capacities of the rural development functionaries, elected representatives, academicians and young students through inter-related activities of teaching, training, research, action research and consultancy. The NIRD faculty comprises experienced academicians and development practitioners.

For more details about the Institute and the PGDRDM, please visit our Website www.nird.org.in/pgdrdm.  The NIRD announces its seventh fully residential One-year ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM)’ with an aim to create a committed and competent cadre of Rural Development professionals in the country. The programme seeks to impart management techniques that will enhance the understanding of the paradigm and practice of rural development.

ELIGIBILITY: Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University. Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements of graduation before 1st January, 2014 may also apply. Some seats are reserved for the sponsored Indian in-service candidates. Indian in service candidates should possess at least two years of work experience in rural development and allied sectors and are required to apply through their employers.

SELECTION PROCESS: Selection of candidates including Indian in-service candidates will be made through a process of All-India Entrance Test which will test the verbal, quantitative and analytical competencies of the students including English Language. Group Discussion and Personal Interviews will be conducted for the short-listed candidates.
However, a separate merit list will be prepared for the regular and in-service students.

ENTRANCE TEST: The Entrance Test will be conducted on November 24, 2013 at the following centres: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar Dimapur, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Patna, Pune and Thiruvanantapuram. However, the NIRD reserves the right to cancel any of the centres or add new centres for any administrative reasons and assign any other centre to the applicants.

TOTAL NO. OF SEATS: 50 (may undergo some change depending upon the availability of infrastructure. Of these, up to 5 seats may be allotted to the Indian in service candidates).

PROGRAMME DURATION: (One year) January, 2014 to December, 2014

COURSE FEE: For Open / OBC Category `1.60 Lakhs
(excluding boarding and lodging) For SC/ST/PWD category `1.50 Lakhs (excluding boarding and lodging)
 Board and Lodging: The annual board and lodging expenses will be approximately `1,00,000. Accommodation will be given to the students in the NIRD hostel.

Caution Deposit: A refundable Caution Deposit of `10,000 is to be paid along with the first trimester fee.

Seat Registration Fee: Upon selection, a non-refundable Seat Registration fee of `30,000 should be paid by the Indian students. This amount will be adjusted against the first trimester fee.

SCHOLARSHIPS: The North Eastern Council, Shillong, may consider giving fellowships to economically backward students of North Eastern states.

RESERVATION: Reservations for the students of the SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer) and Persons with Disability (PWD) will be made as per Government of India’s policies.

PLACEMENT: NIRD will endeavour to make placements on successful completion of the PGDRDM, but does not guarantee. However, all the students of the previous Batches of the PGDRDM have been placed. The same trend is expected to continue.

The selection process is as follows:  
 Submitted application forms will to be screened, and candidates found eligible will be required to appear for an entrance examination on 10th December 2013
 Foreign nationals and candidates who have passed the NET or JRF examinations are exempted from appearing in the entrance examination. In subjects where NET examinations are not conducted, appearing for the admission examination is mandatory.

Applications have been invited from Indian nationals for Undergraduate Associateship (UGA) of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata under the auspices of the Centre for Advanced Research and Education (CARE), SINP.

The purpose of UGA programme is to identify budding scientists and provide them with the necessary resources/nourishment in order to motivate them to take up scientific research in Physical and Biophysical sciences as a career option. UGAs of SINP are expected to undertake studies/work in the broad areas of Physical and Biophysical sciences (For details, see www.saha.ac.in/cs/www  (look under Research)).

Candidates from the first/second year of Science undergraduate (B. Sc/Integrated M. Sc in Physics/Chemistry/Biological Sciences) programme in 2013 who have secured at least 85% marks in both Science and Mathematics and at least 80% in aggregate in Class XII Board Examination are encouraged to apply. The final selection amongst the short listed candidates may involve an interview where the candidates needs to display resourcefulness, passion for scientific research as well as mastery of scientific concepts.

Selected UGAs will be exposed to reading courses and laboratory training through short projects under the guidance of assigned mentors for a total period of about 60-90 days spread over their undergraduate years. During this period they will receive a stipend (Rs. 200/- per day) along with travel allowance and hostel accommodation (for outstation UGAs). A few of the UGAs may be further selected as Graduate Associates of SINP if they pursue Masters Programme in Basic sciences.
