Selection Procedure
All the applications will be evaluated based on academic performance, TOEFL and GRE scores, recommendation letters, statement of purpose, work experience, etc.
All those who meet the minimum criteria for selection will be sent hall ticket for C-GAT which is to be held in Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai.
Shortlisted candidates from C-GAT performance will be called for first round of interviews at the respective test centers to be conducted by SSN SASE faculty.
Further shortlisted candidates will be called for a joint interview by SSN SASE and Carnegie Mellon faculty members at Chennai.
Successful candidates will be offered admission letter by Carnegie Mellon University.

The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) is a premier national center of excellence in rural development. Recognised internationally as one of the UN-ESCAP Centers of Excellence in HRD, it builds capacities of the rural development functionaries, elected representatives, academicians and young students through inter-related activities of training, research, teaching and consultancy. Its faculty comprises of experienced academicians and practitioners. The NIRD announces its second fully residential One Year ‘Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM)’ with an aim to create a committed and competent cadre of Rural Development professionals in the country. While laying the theoretical foundations of rural development, the programme seeks to impart management techniques that will enhance the understanding of the paradigm and practice of rural development.

ELIGIBILITY: Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University. Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements of graduation before 1st August, 2009 may also apply. Some seats are reserved for the in-service candidates with at least two years of work experience in rural development and allied sectors. In-service candidates are required to apply through their employers. Organisational Sponsorship is essential. They may however, send an advance application. In-service candidates are also required to appear for the Entrance Test. However, a separate merit list will be prepared for their selection

SELECTION PROCESS: Selection of candidates will be made through a process of All-India Entrance Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

TOTAL NO. OF SEATS: 60 (may undergo some changes depending upon infrastructural contingencies)

PROGRAMME DURATION: (One year) August, 2009 to July, 2010

COURSE FEE: Rs. 1.25 lakh. The Board and Lodging expenses will be approximately Rs.80,000/-

SCHOLARSHIPS: Merit and need based scholarships may be made available to deserving candidates. The North Eastern Council has fully funded the North East region students selected for the PGDRDM in 2008-09. Similar financial support to the North East region students is likely this year as well, subject to a maximum of two students from each of the eight North Eastern states. Bank loans will also be facilitated by the NIRD for needy students.

RESERVATION: Reservations for the SC/ST/OBC and Persons with Disability (PWD) will be made as per Government of India’s policies.

ENTRANCE TEST: The Entrance Test will be conducted on 15.02.2009 at the following centres: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Kohima, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Pune, Rajkot, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Silguri, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur and Visakhapatanam. The NIRD reserves the right to cancel any of the centres if there are in-sufficient numbers of candidates and assign any other centre to the applicants.

PLACEMENT: NIRD will endeavour to make placements on successful completion of the PGDRDM, but does not guarantee.

The filled in application form should be submitted along with the application fee of Rs.1000/- (Rs.500/- for SC/ST and PWDs) through an ‘Account Payee’ Demand Draft drawn in favour of NIRD, Hyderabad. NIRD reserves the right to make changes to the Diploma programme design/content and the process of selection, depending upon the exigencies, without assigning any reasons whatsoever.

Any graduate with a valid CAT/MAT/XAT score will be eligible for admission to the PGDM course. Students studying in their final year degree course are also eligible to apply provided they can produce proof of their result by July. Application forms can be collected in person from the institute (BRIM) or from the office of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan at TD Road, Kochi by paying Rs 600/-. Application forms can be obtained by post by sending a DD for Rs 650/- in favour of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan payable at Kochi. Application forms down loaded from the website also can be used for the purpose, but such application forms should be accompanied by a DD for Rs 600/- in favour of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan payable at Kochi. The duly filled in applications should reach The Dean, Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management, Off Hill Palace-Tripunithura, Old Guest House Road, Thiruvankulam, Kochi- 682 305, Kerala within the stipulated time announced by the institute. The total intake for the course is 60 and 5 times of this capacity will be short-listed for the selection process. The opening of the admissions will be advertised in the print media and students from all the States can participate in the admission process. The Admissions to the course will be closed by June every year and the classes will commence in July.

1. Application are invited for admission to the MBBS course at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Commencing from 01 Aug 2009. Total 130 candidates (including a maximum of 25 girls) will be selected. All the 105 boys and 25 girls admitted to Armed Forces Medical College, Pune have Compulsory liability to serve as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services on graduation. The type of commission will depend upon the vacancies available and merit-cum-option at the final MBBS examination. The liability of the SSC officers passing out of AFMC to serve the Armed Forces Medical Services would be seven (7) years. All candidates admitted to the college are required to execute a bond to this effect for an amount of Rs. 15 lacs (Rupees Fifteen lacs) at the time of joining the college, students removed from service liability due to any reason will have to pay the bond money as per conditions laid down by Govt of the India.

2. Ten seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe candidates who also have similar service liability and have to fulfill the requirements if medical fitness, age. Education qualification and qualifying the entrance examination as per details given in the prospectus

3. SPECIAL CONCESSIONS: the Govt will provide free accommodation and entitled rations, subsidized messing, AC 3 Tier free railway warrant from college to home and back during vacation, a book subsidy of Rs 12000/- during entire training period, uniform allowance of Rs.6000/- per student during first year and Rs.1250/- per year as maintenance allowance in subsequent years and any other misc allowances as applicable.

4. All candidates should be medically fit as per laid down standards for the Armed Forces.

5. Only unmarried candidates are eligible. Marriage during the course is not permitted. The College is fully residential both for boys and girls.

6. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION : Application must have passed the XII standard/pre-professional/premedical examination or equivalent examination of statutory Indian University/Board or any other recognized Board University as a regular student in all the subject of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology securing not less than 60% of aggregate marks in three science subjects taken together not less than 50% marks in each of the Science subjects and not less than 50% marks in English. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics at Least of the Matriculation standard. A graduates of B.Sc examination with not less then two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany or Zoology) and also must have passed the earlier qualifying examination i.e. XII standard/Pre professional (Med) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and obtained marks as stated above NOTE

(a) Candidates who are to appear in the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent ) upto 05 May 2007 also appear for the test provisionally.

(b) The Following Categories of students are Not ELIGIBLE to apply:- (i) Candidates who have passed in Domestic Science, Domestic Arithmetic, Lower Maths Separately or in combination with other subjects like General Science, Social Studies in High School/Higher Secondary (Multi Purpose) or equivalent (ii) Candidates who have passed only Pre-University/Pre-degree (one years course) or Pre-professional in Agriculture/Veterinary/Dental Examination (iii) Candidates who have passed the Pre-professional or equivalent examination as private candidates.

7. AGE LIMIT: Must have attained the age of 17 years on 31 December 2009 but must NOT have attained the age of 22 on the date i.e. not born earlier than 01 January 1988 and not later than31 December 1992 if the academic qualification of the candidate is 10+2 or equivalent. Eligibility:
(i) Candidates having M.Phil/Master's degree in Population Studies of a recognised university with atleast 55% of marks. For part-time Ph.D., two years’ experience after MPS or one year experience after M.Phil in Population Studies is essential.

Fellowship:
The selected Indian students will be awarded a Government of India fellowship initially for one year only and is extendable on yearly basis as per rules of the Institute. Each eligible candidate with NET qualification for lectureship only either in Population Studies or its interdisciplinary subjects will be awarded the Government of India fellowship @ Rs. 12,000/- per month for first and second years and Rs.14,000/- per month for third year respectively. Each fellowship carries a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- for the first two years and Rs. 20,500/- for the third year. However, the candidates without NET qualification for lectureship shall be awarded the Government of India fellowship @ Rs. 6,250/- p.m. for first and second years and Rs. 7,000/- p.m. for third year respectively with an annual contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/-.

Selection Criteria:
Selection will be made on the basis of performance of the candidates in an individual research proposal presentation, personal interview and past academic records. The Institute gives preference to admit to its Ph.D. Programme, candidates who have M.Phil in Population Studies. Only short-listed candidates will be called for the presentation and interview. The Institute shall not bear any travel expense of the candidates called for the presentation and interview.

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be considered as per the Government of India norms.

The selection for admission to the 3 - year course leading to B.Sc. Objective:
University of Pune (UoP), on behalf of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, will conduct the BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) examination. The objective of this examination is to certify bioinformatics professionals, trained formally as well as selftrained.

Eligibility:
Graduate in Science, Agriculture, Veterinary, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering & Technology are eligible to appear in the examination. They need not have any formal training viz., certificate, diploma or degree in Bioinformatics. Students in final year of Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.


Application & Syllabus:
The online application begins on December 1, 2008 and will continue until January 16, 2009.
The examination fee is Rs. 600/- for general category, Rs. 450/- for reserved category and US $100 for foreign students. Please visit the website (http://bioinfo.ernet.in/binc/) for detail information. Syllabus consists of four sections: biology, physical and chemical sciences, IT, and bioinformatics.

Examination:
The examination is scheduled on February 21-22, 2009 and will be in three parts. The paper I will be objective type, only those who pass this paper with a minimum of 40% marks will be eligible to appear for the paper II and paper III. The paper II will be short answer type, while the paper III will be a computer-based practical. The certification will be awarded to those who secure a minimum of 40% in all the three papers.

Research fellowships will be awarded to 15 BINC qualified Indian nationals to pursue Ph.D. in Indian Institutes/Universities. Note that the candidate must possess a postgraduate degree & meet the criteria of the institutes/universities in order to avail research fellowship. In addition, a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- will be awarded to the top 10 BINC qualifiers.

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India has instituted this examination with an objective to certify Bioinformatics professionals and to facilitate industries and potential employers for recruitment. The National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), a premier organization of its kind in South Asia, is engaged in capacity building and research in educational policy, planning and administration. D. programmes in educational policy, planning and administration from a broader inter-disciplinary social science perspective. The research programmes of NUEPA cover all levels and types of education from both national and international development perspectives. A candidate seeking admission to the Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. programme shall have a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST candidates ) or its equivalent grade in Master's Degree in education, social sciences and allied disciplines from a recognized university.
(ii) Candidates who are yet to clear their final examination at the Master’s level are also eligible to apply provided they pass the examination as per eligibility conditions already laid down at (i) above and submit its proof at the time of interview.
(B) A candidate seeking admission to Full-time Direct Ph. D. Programme shall have an M. Phil. degree in an area closely related to educational and administration and/or exceptionally brilliant academic record coupled with publications of high quality.

Part-time Programme
A candidate seeking admission to Part-time Ph. D. programme is required to meet the following criteria:
(i) Should possess the educational qualifications as mentioned in Para (A) (i) above;
(ii) Currently, should be in full-time employment;
(iii) Should be a senior level educational functionary/administrator with a minimum of five years work experience in teaching, educational planning and administration.


Mode of Selection
The University reserves the right to decide the number of seats to be filled in the year 2009-10; the criteria for screening of applications; and the selection procedure of candidates for admission to its Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. and Ph. D. programmes. The mode of selection of candidates will be as under:
(i) Initial short-listing of applications will be carried out on the basis of relevance and quality of the brief write-up (in the prescribed format) in the proposed area of research to be submitted along with the application form;
(ii) Short-listed candidates will be invited for second level screening through which the University will assess the general awareness of the candidates about the educational issues and their motivation to pursue research.
(iii) Written test for the short-listed candidate will be scheduled on 30 May, 2009 at NUEPA at 9.00 a.m.
(iv) Face-to-face interview for the qualified candidates will be from June 1-3, 2009.

How to Apply:
Candidates may apply in the prescribed form for admission to Full-time Integrated M. Phil. - Ph. D. and Ph. D. programmes of the University along with three copies of the brief write-up (in the prescribed format) on the proposed research topic of a contemporary issue within the broad framework of educational policy, planning and administration.
