How to apply
Completed application accompanied by demand draft for Rs `.100/- (Rs `50/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn in favour of the head of training centre towards registration fee and attested copies of mark list of +2 examination chosen training centre on or before the last date prescribed. The D.D in respect of Model Polytechnic, Mala should be payable at Chalakudy.
Candidates are precluded from applying to more than one training centre for admission. In the application, the name of training centre chosen should be invariably noted. Once selected, transfer from one training centre to another will not be given under any circumstances. The application without registration fee will be rejected without assigning any reason.
Application form downloaded from the websites www.ihrdkerala.org. / www.ihrd.ac.in can also be used and should be submitted to the concerned training centre along with a Demand Draft for Rs `.150/- (Rs 100/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn in favour of the head of concerned training centre.

1) 25% of the seats will be reserved for SC/ST/OEC Students (As per G.O.(Rt) 212/2011/SC ST dtd 14/02/2011)
Candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST quota should produce community certificate from a Revenue officer not below the rank of concerned Tahsildar. Candidates claiming reservation under OEC should produce a community certificate and income certificate from the Village Officer concerned. Claim of reservation without community/income certificate will not be considered.
The unavailed seat if any under SC quota will go to the ST quota and vice versa.

The Fees once paid is non-refundable under any circumstances, unless stated otherwise

IHRD do not allow any educational concession/exemption from payment of fee to the students studying for the course. However the SC/ST/OEC candidates selected under reservation quota shall be provisionally exempted from payment of the prescribed fees provided they submit application for educational concession from the Scheduled Caste Development Department in the prescribed form along with the supporting documents within 15 days from the date of commencement of the regular classes. If they fail to do so, they should pay the prescribed fees. The sanctioning of educational concession to the above categories of students will be subject to Government Orders issued by SC Development Department from time to time.

Important Rules and Regulations for the Examination (Students must read the entire rules and regulations available in the course centre before undergoing the course)
1. The final Examination will be conducted by the IHRD, immediately after the completion of the course.
2. Candidates who have secured a minimum of 75% of the attendance during the course only are eligible for the registration for the examination.
3. Students who have shortage of attendance, but not condoned, are not eligible to register for the examination.
4. A candidate will have up to four consecutive chances for appearing the final examination from their registration to the regular examination. All supplementary exams conducted subsequent to a regular examination will be treated as a chance, irrelevant whether the candidate has registered for those exams or not.
5. Candidates who have not secured the minimum attendance during the course or those who have failed for continuous
evaluation even for one subject have to repeat the course by paying the prescribed fees.
6. The minimum marks required for a pass in each subject will be 50% of maximum marks. (ie, for theory/practical (End of
course assessment and the continues evaluation put together.) However individual minimum of 50% is required for theory/practical (End of course assessment) and continues evaluation of each subject, separately. There is no provision for improvement of sessional (CE) marks, unless the candidate repeats the course.
7. A candidate can apply for the revaluation or re-counting of answer scripts on the following conditions.
i. The application for revaluation/re-counting of answer scripts shall be submitted in the prescribed format through the head of institution along with the required fee, within 10 days of receipt of mark lists or within 15 days of date of publication of result, which ever is earlier.
ii. The revaluation/re-counting fee once remitted will not be refunded under any circumstances.
iii. The revised marks list will be issued, if there is an increase in marks during re-counting.
iv. For revaluation, the revised marks will be awarded only if there is a minimum of 10% increase in marks awarded during first valuation.
8. The students have the opportunity to point out the mistakes in Name, sex, date of birth etc. given in the hall ticket by making necessary correction in the copy of A-list, at the time of receiving hall tickets. They can also submit request for correction through the head of training centre, with a copy of the SSLC certificate any time, before the publication of results. These changes will be corrected free of cost. But, once mark list/diploma certificate is prepared and forwarded to the training centre for issue, any correction of above details will be made on the following conditions.
a. A request shall be submitted along with the mark list/diploma issued in original and a copy of the SSLC certificate.
b. Correction fee for Mark list/Diploma certificate should be remitted.
c. Any other mistakes in marks entered in the mark list will be corrected free of cost on surrender of original mark list.

9.
i. Those who pass the final examination in the first chance securing an aggregate of 75% or more marks will be
declared to have passed the course in “First Class with Distinction”.
ii. Those who pass the final examination in the first chance securing an aggregate of 60% or more marks will be
declared to have passed the course in “First Class”.
iii. All other successful candidates will be placed in the “Second Class”.

10. All successful candidates will be awarded a Diploma by the IHRD.
11. A provisional certificate will be issued to successful students, if applied within 3 months from the date of publication of
results. Application in the prescribed format duly recommended by the head of training centre should be submitted to the Director, IHRD, along with the prescribed fees and proof of Identity. The provisional certificate once issued, will be valid for 6 months from the date of issue or till the Diploma certificates are issued, whichever is earlier.

ELIGIBILITY : Masters degree in the subject concerned with at least 50% marks; or Master’s degree in allied subjects or Humanities with at least 55% marks; or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 60% marks. For Centre for Studies in Science Policy: Master's degree in Social Science or Humanities or Law or Management with 55% marks or Master's degree in Natural Sciences or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine with 60% marks. ELIGIBILITY : MBBS degree with at least 50% marks and at least one year’s work experience
after internship or M.Sc. degree in Nursing with at least 50% marks and at least one year’s experience in Community Health Nursing.
(C)M.A. in : ECONOMICS, GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, POLITICAL SCIENCE, SOCIOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY.
ELIGIBILITY : (a) M.A. in History, Geography and Sociology: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks. (b) M.A. in Economics: Bachelor's degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks, and Mathematics either at 10+2 level or at Bachelor's level, either as subsidiary or as honours. (c) M.A. in Political Sciences: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks. (d) M.A. in Philosophy:
Bachelor's degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks in Social Sciences and Humanities and 55% marks in Science & Technology disciplines.
IV. SCHOOL OF LIFE SCIENCES
(A) M.PHIL./PH.D. IN AREAS OF INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH IN MOLECULAR
BIOLOGY, GENETIC ENGINEERING, PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY, GENETICS, DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY, CELL BIOLOGY, IMMUNOLOGY, NEUROBIOLOGY, MICROBIOLOGY, RADIATION AND CANCER BIOLOGY, BIO-PHYSICS AND STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY.
ELIGIBILITY : M.Sc. or equivalent degree, with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades, in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics or Physical Sciences, as well as to those with M.B.B.S or M. Tech. or M.Sc. (Agriculture) or M. Sc. (Veterinary Sciences) degree with 55% marks. Candidates having the M.Sc. or equivalent degree in allied subjects of Life Sciences, including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Botany, Genetics, Microbiology, Neurobiology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Zoology, or in Chemistry or Physics are also eligible.
(B) M.SC. IN LIFE SCIENCES : An integrated interdisciplinary programme in Modern Biology.
ELIGIBILITY : Bachelor’s (B. Sc. or B Tech or equivalent) in Biological, Physical or Agricultural Sciences under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
V. SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
(A) M.PHIL./PH.D. IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES INCLUDING INTERDISCIPLINARY AREAS OF BIOLOGY(ECOLOGY, BIOTECHNOLOGY, BIOPHYSICS, BIOREMEDIATION), CHEMISTRY (AIR, WATER, SOIL POLLUTION), GEOLOGY AND PHYSICS.
ELIGIBILITY : M.Sc. degree or equivalent in any branch of basic or applied science or applied science or MBBS or B.Tech. /B.E. with minimum 55% marks.
(B) M.SC. IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES : AN INTERDISCIPLINARY COURSE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL ORIENTATION, DRAWN FROM RELEVANT AREAS OF BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL, EARTH AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES.
ELIGIBILITY : Bachelor’s degree in any branch of basic or applied science under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
VI. SCHOOL OF COMPUTER AND SYSTEMS SCIENCES
THE SCHOOL OFFERS ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES LEADING TO THE DEGREES IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
(A)M.PHIL./PH.D. & M.TECH/PH.D.
ELIGIBILITY : Master's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or Statistics or Operational Research or in any branch of Science or Bachelor's degree in any branch
of Engineering or Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with at least 55% marks. (B) M.C.A. (MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS) : 3 YEAR PROGRAMME OPEN TO CANDIDATES WITH ADEQUATE COMPETENCE IN MATHEMATICS.
ELIGIBILITY : Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with adequate competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
VII. SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES
(A) PRE-PH.D./PH.D. IN PHYSICAL SCIENCES/ CHEMICAL SCIECES/ MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES.
ELIGIBILITY : (a) For Physical Sciences: M.Sc. degree in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics, with at least 55% marks. Candidates having majored in Physics or
Chemistry should have had Mathematics at least up to the B.Sc. level. Exceptions can be made in case of applicants with B.Tech. (Electronics/Electrical) degrees provided they successfully qualify the entrance examination. (b) For Chemical Sciences, M.Sc. degree in Chemistry or Physics, with at least 55% marks. Candidates majoring in Chemistry should have specialization in Analytical/Organic/Inorganic/Physical Chemistry/Chemical Physics/Polymer Chemistry at the Master’s level. (Admission through entrance examination is kept in abeyance for this year. Admissions however will be made under the category 'NET qualified candidates') (c)For Mathematical Sciences, M.Sc. degree in Mathematics, with at least 55% marks.
(B) M.Sc. in PHYSICS
ELIGIBILITY : Bachelor’s degree (with Physics as one of the subjects) under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with 55% marks in the aggregate (or in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combined), or in Physics Honours.
VIII. SCHOOL OF ARTS & AESTHETICS
(A) M.PHIL./PH.D.: The School offers M.Phil./Ph.D. programme in three different streams - Visual Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies and Cinema Studies.
(Admission to the M.Phil./Ph.D. is through a separate entrance examination for each discipline followed by a viva-voce.)
ELIGIBILITY: Masters degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks.
(b) M.A. in Arts & Aesthetics: The School offers M.A. programme with cross disciplinary study of the Visual, Cinematic and Performing Arts.
ELIGIBILITY : Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.
IX. SCHOOL OF COMPUTATIONAL AND INTEGRATIVE SCIENCES
(A) PRE-PH.D/PH.D IN COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY AND BIOINFORMATICS
ELIGIBILITY: (a) Master’s Degree in any branch of Sciences such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science/MCA. (b) MBBS or BHMS or equivalent degree as recognized by Government Council such as MCI.
 (c) B.Tech or B.E. or equivalent degree in any branch of Engineering, B.Pharma degree or equivalent. Common to all is a minimum requirement of 55% marks. (B) M.TECH. IN COMPUTATIONAL AND SYSTEMS BIOLOGY ELIGIBILITY: (a) Master's Degree in any branch of Sciences including Biological, Chemical. Mathematical, Physical, Statistics, Computer Sciences/MCA (b) MBBS or BHMS or equivalent degree as recognized by Government Council such as MCI (c) B.Tech or B.E. or equivalent degree in any branch of Engineering. B.Pharma degree or equivalent. A mini­mum of 55% marks in the qualifying degree and Mathematics till class XII is Compulsory.
X. SCHOOL OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
PRE-PH.D/ PH.D. IN AREAS OF GENE TRANSFER AND EXPRESSION IN EUKARYOTIC SYSTEMS, TRANSCRIPTION CONTROL AND GENE REGULATION, PROTEIN ENGINEERING, MOLECULAR BIOLOGY OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES, PROTEIN FOLDING AND STABILITY. OPTIMIZATION OF RECOMBINANT PROTEIN PRODUCTION. STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY & MOLECULAR BIOINFORMATICS, AND BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEERING, MOLECULAR VIROLOGY. CANCER BIOLOGY, MOLECULAR CELL BIOLOGY.
ELIGIBILITY : Master's Degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or any branch of Physical or Biological or Engineering Sciences or B.Tech.(Biotechnology/Bioengineering/allied qualifications) with atleast 55% marks.
XI. CENTRE FOR SANSKRIT STUDIES
(A) M.Phil./PH.D. IN SANSKRIT
ELIGIBILITY: Master's degree in Sanskrit or in an allied subject (with Sanskrit up to B.A. level) with at least 55% marks.
(B) M.A. IN SANSKRIT
ELIGIBILITY : Bachelor's Degree in Sanskrit or in any other subject under 10+2+3 pat-tern of education with at least 45% marks.
XII. CENTRE FOR MOLECULAR MEDICINE |
PRE-PH.D/PH.D IN AREAS OF METOBOLIC DISORDERS, INFECTIOUS AND NON­INFECTIOUS DISEASES, DIAGNOSTICS AND MOLECULAR ENDOCRINOLOGY ELIGIBILITY : Master's degree or equivalent from recognized University/Institution in any branch of biological sciences/MBBS/ BVSc./B.Pharm. with at least 55% marks.
XIII. CENTRE FOR THE STUDY OF LAW AND GOVERNANCE] M.PHIL./PH.D. IN LAW AND GOVERNANCE
ELIGIBILITY: Master's degree in Law, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology, History, Philosophy and Cognate Areas/Disciplines with 55% marks; or 60% in any branch of natural science._
(Cateoorv-B) ADMISSION OF JRF HOLDERS TO M.PHIL./PH.D. AND PRE-PH.D./PH.D. PROGRAMME IN SCIENCE SCHOOLS
The University admits a limited number of candidates to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D. programmes on the basis of viva-voce who have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF in Schools of Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer & Systems Sciences and Computational and Integrative Sciences.
ELIGIBILITY: Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D. programmes through Entrance Examination under category A above in above Science Schools and have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF are eligible to apply.
(Category -C) PART-TIME PROGRAMME:
The University will hold Entrance Examination (in Delhi Centre only) for admission to Certificate of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu a one-year Part-Time Programmes of Study in the School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies. Since these are Part-Time programmes, these are intended for candidates resid­ing in Delhi NCR only. Admission to Diploma of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma of Proficiency will be made on basis of the past academic record of the candidate which will be assessed in accordance with the criteria laid down by the University for selection. PROGRAMMES OF STUDY : 1) Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu, 2) Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto, 3) Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto and Bahasa Indonesia. 4) Certificate of Proficiency in Mongolian, Pushto, Bahasa Indonesia and Urdu.
ELIGIBILITY: 1. Certificate of proficiency : Atleast Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate. 2. Diploma of Proficiency : Atleast Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 45% marks in aggre­gate and Certificate of proficiency in the language concerned or an examination recog­nised as equivalent thereto. 3. Advanced Diploma of Proficiency : Atleast Senior School Certificate (10+2) or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and Diploma of Proficiency in the language con­cerned or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto. 4. Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu: A Bachelor's Degree under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern of education with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate with Urdu as one of the subjects at High School or Intermediate or B.A. Level.

GENERAL INFORMATION
FOREIGN NATIONALS: All foreign nationals present in India are required to appear in the Entrance Examination subject to their fulfilling minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for Indian students as indicated under Category 'A' above. However, in the event of their selection, they will be considered for admission subject to equivalence of their degrees as per eligibility requirements.
RESERVATION OF SEATS : 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non creamy layer). 15% and 7.5% of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates respectively in all programmes of study. 3% seats are reserved for Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates (with a minimum of 40% disability). All SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates who have passed and/or are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to appear in the entrance examination irrespective of their percentage of marks.
Besides, all candidates who have passed qualifying examination prescribed for admis­sion to the concerned programme of study from the identified backward districts, will be eligible for deprivation points. All Kashmiri migrants and wards/widows of certain cate­gories of Defence Personnel will be eligible for deprivation points subject to their sub­mitting a documentary evidence of their status (For details, refer to Chapter V of Prospectus). All female candidates are also eligible for deprivation points. Only those candidates will be eligible for deprivation points as stated above who seek admis­sion through Entrance Examination.

PLEASE NOTE THAT: There is a different Application Form for each Category i.e. Category 'A' and Category 'C (Admission through Entrance Examination) and Category 'B' (Admission of JRF holders). Candidates should therefore clearly indicate on the self addressed envelope, the Category for which the Application Form is required by them.
For admission through Entrance Examination under Category-A above and Certificate of Proficiency (Part-Time Programme) under Category-C above, candi­dates can opt upto a maximum of three Fields of Study in a single Application Form for the same level of Programmes i.e. COP(Part-Time) or B.A. (Hons.) (1st Year) or M.A./M.Sc./MCA or M.Phil/Ph.D.,Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D., M.Tech./Ph.D., M.P.H./Ph.D., and are not required to submit separate Application Forms for each field of study. In case a candidate submits more than one Application Form for the same level of programmes of study, his/her candidature will be rejected. However, this restriction will not apply to candidates who apply for JRF holders to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D. programmes under Category-B above and Diploma/Advanced Diploma of Proficiency (Part-Time Programmes) under Category-C above. Candidates are required to submit separate Application Form for each Field of Study for admission to B.A. (Hons.) 2nd Year under category A above, JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D. under Category-B above and for Diploma and Advanced Diploma (Part-Time) programmes under Category-C above.

HOW TO APPLY : A candidate can apply either "Online" or "Offline". Online Application: Candidates can apply Online on payment of prescribed fee if they have access to a computer, a printer and Internet by logging on to JNU website www.jnu.ac.in. The sites have been designed in a 'user friendly' way to help candidates for applying Online in a step-by-step fashion. Online application portal will remain open from 10:00 AM (1ST) on 7th February, 2013 till 5:00 PM (1ST) on 23rd March. 2013. Offline Application : Set of Application Form and Prospectus can be obtained through Post by sending crossed Bank Draft for Rs.300/- (Rs. Three Hundred only) drawn in favour of JAWAHARLAL NEHRU UNIVERSITY paybie at NEW DELHI alongwith a self addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cms x 25 cms. clearly indi­cating the programme of study for which the Application Form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the SECTION OFFICER (ADMISSIONS), Room No.28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi 110067. Candidates seeking a set of Application Form and Prospectus from Nepal are required to send a Demand Draft of Rs.400/- or equivalent in US Dollars. Money Orders and Cheques are not accepted. 1. Candidates who are due to appear in respective qualifying examination prescribed for eligibility for admission to a particular programme are also eligible to appear in the entrance examination.
