1. Ph.D course work for the admitted candidates as per new Ph.D regulations 2009 shall begin in February 2015

2. i.The Ph.D. Entrance test (RET) on the 3rd of November from 12.30 am to 2 pm and the  Viva will be held on the 16th of December at 1pm.
ii. Forms will be accepted from 15th September 2014 in the office of the department of Sociology.
iii. Last date of submission of form is 19th September 2014 in the office of the department of Sociology by 1pm.
iv. List of candidates eligible for the RET (Research Eligibility Test) will be published on the departmental notice board on the 26th September 2014 after 3pm.
v. List of RET qualified eligible candidates for Viva will be walled up on 10th December after 3pm.
vi. The entrance test will be of 80 marks written and 20 marks Viva. The candidate has to write two essays of 40 marks each. Questions will be set on the basis of MA syllabus of Calcutta University. The qualifying mark for the test will be 40 marks i.e.
50%.Candidates appearing for written test will have to attain the qualifying marks to appear for the Viva.
vii. List of Candidates selected for the Ph.D. programme will be published on 12th January 2015 after 2 pm. 
viii. The students who have cleared UGC /CSIR (JRF) Examinations/ NET/SET/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or have passed equivalent
examinations or passed the M.Phil./M.Tech/M.D/M.E/M.Pharm or equivalent examination shall not be required to appear at the Ph.D. entrance test as per Ph.D  new regulations 2009.They will appear for the viva.

3. The number of seats that will be available in the department for Ph.D. is twelve (12) including reserved categories for this year.

4. Last date for Admission of eligible candidates to the Ph.D program will be 27th January 2015 before 1pm.

5. Important Dates:
 Forms will be accepted from-15th September till 19th September 2014 before 1pm.(except on holidays)
 Eligibility list for the RET will be published on 26th September 2014 after 3pm.
 Entrance test on the 3rd of November from 12.30 am to 2 pm.
 RET qualified list of eligible candidates for Viva on 10th December 2014 after 3pm.
 Viva will be held on the 16th of December 1pm.
 List of Candidates selected for Ph.D program on 12th January 2015 after 2pm.
 Last date for admission of eligible candidates to Ph.D program 27th January 2015 before 1pm.

Bachelor of Library & Information Science  (BLIS) Course, 2014 – 2015




Duly filled in application in the prescribed form for Entrance Examination for admission to the Bachelor of Library & Information Science Course (Evening) (2014 – 2015) will be received by the Department of Library & Information Science, University of Calcutta till 11. 09. 2014 (Thursday) (12 Noon – 3 P.M.) from eligible candidates. The Application Form along with Information Brochure is available at the University Sales Counter on payment of Rs. 250/-. An Entrance Examination will be held on 14. 09. 2014 (Sunday) at Asutosh Building for which candidates must report at 11 A.M. with Admit Cards.

Total Intake: 56. Admission will be made on the basis of the merit list of Entrance Examination, with reservations as per norms of the University of Calcutta (22% for SC, 6% for ST, 2% for OBC and 3% for Physically Handicapped).

Eligibility:
A Bachelor Degree with Honours (10 + 2+ 3) or Master Degree or a Degree in a technical subject (of the pattern 10 + 2 + 4 or 10 + 2 + 5) such as Medical Science, Engineering, Law etc. of this University or having an equivalent degree of any other University or Institute recognized by this university will be eligible for admission to the BLIS course.

Persons appearing in the final Part of Honours Examination will be allowed to sit for the Admission Test. But their admission to BLIS will be subject to the condition of securing Honours Degree when the result comes out and also according to the merit list of BLIS Admission Test.

ADMISSION SCHEDULE (Session 2014-2015)




Applications have been invited by  Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Calcutta for admission to Post Graduate Diploma in Media Studies: Film & Television

ELIGIBILITY: Graduation in any discipline (pass/honours/vocational etc) from a recognized University. Those who have appeared for final examination and awaiting results are also eligible to apply .No age bar. Reservation for SC/ST and physically Handicapped candidates as per rules and University norms.

SELECTION:Thirty five (35) seats are filled through written test. Such candidates are exempted from interview.
Twenty (20) Seats are filled through interview which is reserved only for candidates with Journalism & Mass communication /Film Studies/Videography as their pass/general/honours/vocational subjects at the graduation level. Applicants for this category are exempted from written test.

Downloaded application forms completed in all respects along with the proof of payment of Rs. 250/= by University cash Challan from 20th August - 9th September, 2014.

MODE OF PAYMENT : Application fees may be deposited with the Calcutta University through Cash Challan by the candidate. Counterpart of the Slip in original after Cash deposition is to be attached with the application form.

SUBMISSION OF FORMS: Application forms, properly filled, are to be submitted at the Department of Journalism &Mass Communication, Hardinge Building (Second Floor) College Street Campus, KolKata -700073 till September 9, 2014.

ADMISSION THROUGH WRITTEN TEST: Question for the written test are set in English and are objective in nature. Emphasis is put on general knowledge, current affairs, proficiency in language, reasoning, audiovisual media etc.
DATE &TIME OF WRITTEN TEST: 12th September,2014 at 12-30 pm (duration: not more than one and a half hours) on General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Media, Cinema, Culture etc.

VENUE: Ritwik Hall, Hardinge Building, 4th Floor, College street campus.
Candidates will need to show their admit cards before they enter the examination hall.

ADMISSION THROUGH INTERVIEW: Twenty (20) Seats will be filled through interview. Candidates having Journalism & Mass Communication/ Film Studies /Videography as Honours /Pass/Vocational subjects at the Graduation level may apply for this category. Such applicants must write MS-20 on top of the application form. Otherwise they will be treated as candidates for the written test.

DATE & VENUE OF INTERVIEW: 15th September, 2014 at 11-30am at RITWIK HALL, Hardinge building, 4th Floor, College Street Campus. Candidate will have to show their Admit cards and all testimonials in original at the time of interview.

PROGRAMME AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor of Library & Information Science (BLIS)
Graduate (10+2+3) 45% in Hon?s Subjects for Hon?s Graduate, 50% in aggregate for pass Graduates having 3 subjects (stipulation regarding marks may be relaxed for inservice candidates

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication (PGDJMC)
Graduate of any recognized University.

6. Certificate in Human Rights (CHR)

Mode of payment of fees and submissions of filled in forms:
Step (i) Students are required to collect the admission form from the Study Centres.
Step (ii) Then they will submit the filled in admission form and Pay the requisite amount to the study centre on receipt of a duly signed money receipt.
Step (iii) Filled in admission forms submitted by the students are to be verified and authenticated by the co-ordinator of the study centre.
Step (iv) The Co-ordinator is to deposit the entire amount of the admission fees collected from the students to Bank A/C No. 20021580770 of NETAJI SUBHAS OPEN UNIVERSITY with Allahabad Bank. The said fees may be deposited to any branch of Allahabad Bank.
Step (v) The pay-in-sleep for deposit of fees is to be sent to the University along with the Admission forms.

Besides course fee, an amount of Rs.380/- (Rs.100/- for Registration, Rs.100/- for Identity Card, Rs.50/- for prospectus and Rs.130/- as Annual Development fee) is to be paid at the time of admission to each course.

Forms will be distributed and admission process will be conducted by the Study Centres during 23/08/2014 to 19/09/2014.

Students may also deposit Rs. 300/- by ?Pay-in slip? in the Bihar State Co-operative Bank, Bankipur, Patna, in SB A/C No. 01-20407 of Nalanda Open University, or in SB A/C No. 762428166 of Indian Bank, Main Branch, Biscomaun Bhawan, Patna, in favour of Nalanda Open University, Patna, and purchase prospectus of the University from its sale counters by producing the counter foil of the said ?Pay-in- slip.

FROM STUDY CENTRES :
All the Counselling-Cum-Study Centres / Study Centres have also been permitted to sale the ?Prospectus? of the Nalanda Open University on payment of the prescribed fee of Rs. 300.00 only. The payment is to be made by Bank Draft, drawn in favour of the Nalanda Open University payable at Patna
