IGIDR Fellowships for Asians (Other than Indians)

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is initiating a Capacity Building Program in Inclusive Development with special focus on Labor Market and Industrial Policy, starting from August 2015-July 2016 academic year, with funding from the International Development Research Center, Canada (IDRC). As part of this initiative, following scholarships would be available for students who are citizens of the following Asian countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

1. Maximum of FIVE Scholarships per academic year for M.Sc. (Economics):
This is a two-year programme commencing in August 2015.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. programme includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Economics/Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Statistics/Bachelor of Science in Physics or Mathematics/Bachelor of Technology/Bachelor of Engineering, with at least a Second Class/Division for Economics discipline and First Class/Division for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary (12 years School Leaving Examination) or higher level.

Scholarships: Selected Masters students will receive IDRC funded scholarships that include: monthly scholarship of INR 10000, Medical Coverage of INR 25000 per year, and one time travel grant up to a maximum of INR 50000.

2. Maximum of THREE Fellowships per academic year for M.Phil. (Development Studies):
This is an interdisciplinary programme commencing in August 2015 with special focus on Economics. The duration of M.Phil. programme is two years and involves writing a research dissertation.

Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to the M.Phil. programme includes one of the following degrees or their equivalents: Master of Arts/Master of Science in Economics/Master of Statistics/Master of Science in Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research/Master of Business Administration/Master of Technology/Master of Engineering/Bachelor of Technology (4 years or above programs)/Bachelor of Engineering (4 years or above programs) with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for all other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary (12 years School Leaving Examination) or higher level.

Stipend: Selected M.Phil. students will receive IDRC funded fellowships that include: a monthly stipend of INR 17000/- in the first two years, Medical coverage of INR 25000 per year, one time travel grant up to a maximum of INR 50000, applicable book grant and possible one time conference travel funding.

3. Three Fellowships per academic year to support Visiting Doctoral Students from Select Asian Countries (August 2015 ? July 2016 )
Eligibility:The applicants should possess a Masters degree in any field and be registered for Ph.D. on a topic broadly involving any area of economics at any of the universities/accredited academic programs located in above target Asian countries.

Scholarship: Selected scholars will be paid INR 26000 a month towards scholarship, One round trip travel expense up to a maximum of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of INR 25000, and allowable book grant and travel support for conference travel.

4. Two Post-Doctoral Fellowships for candidates from Select Asian Countries (August 2015 ? July 2016 Academic Year)
Eligibility: The applicants, preferably within the age limit of 35 years, should be either fresh Ph.D. (within two years of successful submission of their dissertations) or junior faculty, who have submitted their Ph.D. dissertations or obtained Ph.D. degrees with an outstanding academic training and record in the broad area of Economics, and particularly, Inclusive Development with speical emphasis on Labor Markets and Industrial Policy.

Fellowship: Selected scholars will be paid a fellowship of INR 50000 per month, One round trip travel expense up to a maximum of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of INR 25000, book grant of INR 50000, Research grant of INR 100000, and conference travel support up to a maximum of INR 150000.

Candidate:
The Centre is looking for persons possessing Doctorate (PhD degree) (including those who recently submitted thesis or are about to submit thesis in next 3 months) for appointment as a PDRA in the Centre. In case a candidate who has submitted thesis is selected for PDRA, the evidence of Ph. D. degree obtained has to be submitted to the Centre within one year of joining. The applicant prior to PhD should have a first class, in B.Sc. and M.Sc or equivalent examinations. An applicant who has a recent PhD/submitted/about to submit thesis, must have at least three (3) publications in refereed journal of impact factor preferably greater than one (1) when the application is made. For candidates who are having post doctoral experience, the minimum number of should be five (5) in refereed journal of impact factor preferably greater than one (1). The selected candidates will be strongly engaged to work independently. However, a member of the faculty will act as a mentor.

Age Limit:
The upper age limit for award of PDRA shall be 35 years.
The upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years in the case of applicants belonging to scheduled caste/tribes, women, physically handicapped and OBC candidates.

Entrance Examination will be held at Lucknow on Sunday, 1st March, 2015.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:
i. Candidates who have passed MBBS/BDS course from the State Medical Colleges of Agra, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Meerut, UP Rural Institute of Medical Science & Research Saifai Etawah, Medical/Dental Faculty of K.G. Medical University, Lucknow and recognized Private Medical/ Dental Colleges of U.P. are eligible to appear in the entrance examination (vide GO, No. 3878/71-2-14-103/2011 dated 03/12/2014)

ii. Candidates who have passed MBBS from Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun, and are bonafide residents of U.P. and selected through CPMT-2000 or before conducted by undivided Uttar Pradesh are also eligible. Candidates who have passed MBBS from the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun, and are bone fide students of U.P. but selected after year 2000 in that Institute are not eligible (vide GO, No. 3878/71-2-14-103/2011
dated 03/12/2014 Candidates must have completed or completing their Compulsory Rotatory Internship by 30th April, 2015.

iii. A candidate who has already taken admission on the basis of earlier U.P.P.G.M.E.E/ A.I.P.G.E.E. is not eligible to appear in the examination until he/she completes and passes the course where he/she is presently admitted. However, such a candidate shall be eligible if-He/She has resigned from the said course, his/her resignation has been accepted by the Principal of the Medical/Dental college or the Vice Chancellor (in the case of candidates of KG Medical University) and he/she has refunded the full amount of salary/stipend received by him/her during the said course along with the fulfillment of the terms and condition laid down in the Bond of Rs 5 Lacs at the time of admission, before the date of notification of this examination, i.e.3rd December 2014
b. He / She is presently pursuing P.G. Diploma course in any subject, with the condition that he/she will be considered for the Postgraduate Degree course in that subject only.
