Our planet is now in an era of climate change and environmental decay. The basic life support systems essential for sustainable advances in farm productivity are now facing threats because of the enlargement of the ecological foot print of human beings. Therefore, it is essential for all concerned with both sustainable human security and the health of our environment to understand the relationships between human kind and nature. Only then, living in harmony with nature will become possible. It is only in this manner that we can ensure that all development programmes help not only the present generation but the generations yet to be born. This is the purpose of sustainability science, which aims to provide the theoretical foundations and practical strategies for achieving the goal of concurrent progress in economic and ecological security. IGNOU has therefore introduced this Appreciation Programme as part of its efforts to help our country to achieve the goal set by Mahatma Gandhi that we should live in a manner keeping in view that “nature provides for everybody’s need but not for everyone’s greed”.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

· The core objective of this programme is to build the capacity of policy makers, administrators, scientists and educators as well as the general public in the science and art of environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development.

· The course will help the participants to develop an Agenda 21 Plan of Action for their respective village/town/city

· To help those involved in agriculture to launch an era of ever-green revolution which can help to enhance productivity in perpetuity without ecological harm.



Special Features of the Programme
The special feature is conceptualization and development of excellent study material by the eminent experts in the country under the guidance of Prof. M.S. Swaminathan. The contributors to the programme include: Professor M,S.Swaninathan, Prof. P.C. Kesavan, Dr. K. Balasubramanian, Ms. Ganga Vidya , Dr. A. A. Nambi, Mr. P. Senthilkumaran , Dr. G.N. Hariharan, Dr. S. K. Chopra and Dr. Ajay Parida.

The programme has been developed in collaboration with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.


Duration : The programme can be completed in a minimum period of one month and a maximum period of one year.

Medium of Instruction : The Programme is offered in English.

Eligibility Requirements : The programme is open to the candidates who are Graduate in any discipline or its equivalent from any recognised University. The preference will be given to the post graduate scholars, scientists and policy makers working in the areas of agriculture, rural development, environmental science and sustainable development.

Credit System : The appreciation programme on sustainable science is of four credits. One credit involves 30 hours of study by the students. Thus, for completing this course a student has to put in 120 hours of study.

Project Work
The purpose is to provide an opportunity to the students to apply the knowledge they have acquired in course of study on scientific principles and technological methods underpinning the concept and pathways of sustainable development. The students may take project work on any of the themes studied taking into account local field conditions. The Block four provides three toolkits as an exemplary and an Agenda 21 Plan of Action as base resource material. The project may be in form of design/ development/ analysis of village knowledge centres/ bio-village/ community gene seed grain water bank or any other innovative project related to sustainability science. The students may also develop a research/ policy paper or prepare a plan of action based on the recommendations of Agenda 21 Plan of Action.


Fee : The fee for the programme is Rs. 500/


Online Platform
The Sustainability Science Programme shall be available online on the SAVE (Sustainable Action and Virtual Education) Platform. It is a complete virtual learning environment suite covering all the activities from registration to certification. The following features shall be available to the registered students.

1. Walk in admission: Admission will be available throughout the year. There shall be four cycles in an academic year i.e. January, April, July and October. The two months period between the two cycles shall be used for advertisement and registration of the students for the next cycle. Registration form shall be specially devised with the facility of uploading scanned certificates, other required documents and photograph. Registration will be confirmed only after verification of the certificates and payment of the required admission fee. Facility for online payment shall be available through the payment gateway (AXIS Bank) being offered by the University for online programmes.

2. Integrated multimedia courseware once registered, learners will have access to personalized learning space (My Page). This includes self instructional material, related audio/ video, slides, self check exercises, etc. weaved in one platform.

3. Online counselling and mentoring – web cast based counselling integrated with text based chatting facility shall be used for counselling purposes.

4. 24×7 learner supports: Asynchronous and synchronous modes of interaction will be used to provide just in time support to learners.

5. Online Project platform: Templates shall be made available for synopsis submission, project uploading and evaluation. Viva voce will be conducted through web based video conferencing tool.

6. Online Term End Examination- Online examinations will be conducted in specified centres for in proctored environment.

Number of Seats Available : 120
Fifteen percent of the intake is likely to be allocated for admissions to Person of Indian Origin (PIO)/Foreign Nationals and Non Resident Indians (NRIs). Of this about one-third i.e., 5% is reserverd for Children of Indian workers of Gulf countries and South East Asia.

Eligibility
A three-year bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) or its equivalent in any discipline from a statutory university with atleast 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA. Candidates appearing in the final examination of a bachelor’s degree can also apply.

Selection Process

The selection procedure for admission consists of two steps :

Written Test
Applicants for the full-time programme are required to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs which will be held on 16th November 2008.

Group Discussion and Personal Interview
Candidates short-listed on the basis of their performance in the written test will be called for group discussion and personal interview. The group discussion/personal interview will be held at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, and New Delhi. The final selection to the programme would be based on the candidate’s performance in the written test, group discussion, personal interview and work experience.

The following weightage will be given for each component of the selection criteria :
Written Test : 70%
Personal Interview : 20%
Group Discussion : 10%

An additional score upto 10 points for work experience will also be given for full-time work experience at managerial level in a professional organization.

Applications are invited on prescribed form for admission to MBBS course starting from 1st July 2009. The candidates shall be selected as per their merit in the Entrance Examination to be held on 19th April 2009 at Nagpur, Delhi, Hyderabad & Mumbai. Those students who are going to appear in 10+2 Higher Secondary Board Examination in March / April 2009 are also eligible to appear in the competitive Entrance Examination.

IN THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION THE PAPER OF PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY WILL HAVE MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS, WHILE THAT ON GANDHIAN THOUGHT WILL BE OF ESSAY AND / OR SHORT ANSWER TYPE.

Eligibility
The candidate must attain 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. The Candidate must have passed 12th standard examination under 10+2 system of Maharashtra State Higher Secondary Education Board or equivalent examination of any recognised Board or any Indian University with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually in each subject in one and the same attempt. Admissions for fee paying Nepalese students are through Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. Kathmandu University (KU) holds a written medical entrance test (KUMET) for all Nepali students wanting to enroll in the MBBS Degree program. (KU calls for applications in July each year. The advertisements appear in prominent National Dailies) Successful candidates are put on 2 merit lists – A & B. MCOMS invites the 'A' list candidates for an interview, after which another merit list is drawn up. Admissions are based on this MCOMS merit list.

Eligibility Requirement for Indian Students
At least pass marks in English (E); 50% in Physics (P), Chemistry(C) and Biology (B) put together (PCB & PCBE) and a minimum aggregate of 50% marks at the 10+2 or equivalent examination.

He/ she should have completed 17 years of age at the time of start of classes. There is no upper age limit.

If a student has a compartment in any subject, the marks that he/ she obtained in the pass attempt are considered for calculating eligibility. These eligibility requirements take care of the Medical Council of India requirements also. There is no entrance Examination.

Processing of Application: The filled application forms are processed for adequacy and minimum eligibility requirements.

Merit List: A merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

Provisional Admission: Provisional admission letters are issued based on merit. This letter will state when the first year’s tuition fee should be paid.

Kindly send the completed application along with application fee of INRs750/-. The fees can be paid via Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Manipal Education & Medical Group (Nepal) Ltd. The DD can be from any bank. The DD must be payable at Kathmandu or Kolkata. State bank of India DD would be preferable as there is a branch both in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Please write your name behind the Demand Draft and send it by courier.

For faster communication students may fax or courier photocopies of their class 10 and 12 mark sheets. But please do not send scanned copies by email. Please write your postal address, email address/ phone/ fax numbers on the admission application. At the time of joining the student must present, the original mark sheets and pass certificates of the qualifying board examinations - Class XII & X/ 'A' & 'O' levels, proof of birth, medical fitness certificate, character certificate, migration certificate (Indian and Nepalese students only) and 12 passport size photographs. Eligibility Requirements:
A minimum of 2 credit passes and 1 ordinary pass in Physics, Chemistry, Biology (PCB) or 50% marks in PCB/ PCBE, and overall aggregate at the ‘A’ level or equivalent examination. (Grades & Marks Equivalence given at the end)
He or she should have at least a credit pass in English at the ‘O’ level.
He/ she should have completed 17 years of age at the time of start of classes. There is no upper age limit.
If there are 4 subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany/ Maths, then a minimum of 2 credit passes and 2 ordinary passes are required.
SAT/ TOEFL is not required. If a candidate has appeared for SAT exam, enclose a copy of SAT score sheet (SAT 1 & SAT 2: Physics, Chemistry & Biology).
There is no entrance Examination.

Processing of Application: The filled application forms are processed for adequacy and minimum eligibility requirements.

Merit List: Based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, a merit list is prepared.

Provisional Admission: If final transcripts/ mark sheets have been submitted, provisional admission letters are issued based on merit. For students, who have submitted the forecast/predicted results or who anticipate receiving final results close to the admission date, letters of provisional admission can be sent earlier. This letter will state when the first year tuition fee should be paid.

Confirmed Admission: A letter of confirmed admission is sent when the first year tuition fee is paid. This letter may be used to apply for a student visa.

Candidates selected through entrance test are eligible for admission in any one of the programmes MBA/MCA/MSc in any one of immediate two Successive batches of admission* (CY 2009 batch or AY 2009-2010 batch).

Candidates with AMIE or similar qualification awarded by Profeswsional Institutes approved by MHRD are also eligible for admission* to MBA/MCA degree programme, if they have
i) Two years experience after obtaining AMIE or similar certificates and

Online tests shall be conducted periodically on receipt of a specified number of applications on first come first served basis and the date of online test shall be intimated to the candidates. However candidates may ave to be ready to appear for the online entrance test within a short period from the date of Receipt of application by the Centre for Distance Education.

Eligibility Criteria :
Engineering Graduates from recognized university with minimum 50% aggregate marks(all years put together) or equivalent grades. For SC/ST candidates minimum marks are 45%. Graduates from part time, distance learning and correspondence courses are not eligible. Final year students can apply subject to their fulfilling the eligibility latest by 30th September 2009

Note: It is the responsibility of the candidates to ascertain whether they posses the requisite qualifications for admission. Having been admitted provisionally does not mean acceptance of eligibility. Final eligibility for admission will be decided by SIU.

Documents required at the time of admission:
The following documents are required to be produced at the time of admission:
1) Certificate of passing the qualifying examination and mark list of all semesters/years or certificate from the college/ institution of having appeared in the qualifying examination whose result has not been declared till the date of admission.
2) Requisite caste certificate if admission is against reservation seats.
3) Gap certificate if there is gap of one or more year between passing of qualifying examination and admission.
4) Certificate for change of name if applicable.
5) Character certificate or transfer certificate.


Selection Procedure

STAGE I:
SNAP Written test - Interested candidates must appear for the Symbiosis national Aptitude test (SNAP test )on 21st December 2008 SNAP test registration and SIOM prospectus is a must.

STAGE II:
Group Discussions and Personal Interviews- Short listed candidates from the first stage will appear for Group Discussions and Personal Interviews as per the schedule at Nashik.

STAGE III:
Those short listed from Stage 2 will be issued Admission Offer letters as per the Merit List.

STAGE IV:
Payment of Fees and confirmation of admission – Candidates on final Merit list must complete their admission by paying the first installment of fees latest by 16th March 2009. Admissions from waitlist will be announced on 18th March 2009. Such candidates must pay fees latest by 3rd April 2009. Further vacancies if any will be announced on the website.



How to Apply:
STEP I:
Appear for the SNAP test on Sunday, 21st December 2008. For this you will have to register online at www.snaptest.org before 25th November 2008.

STEP II:
Submission of SIOM admission Form:

All candidates are required to fill the SIOM admission form online. The form is available on clicking the admission weblink on www.siom.in . Fill the form complete in all respects and submit. Take a printout of the filled form.

1. Candidates buying the prospectus in person from SIOM in cash should pay Rs. 1400 and submit the hard copy of the filled form in SIOM admission department.
2. Candidates can also download the SIOM admission form from the website and send it directly to SIOM along with the Demand draft of Rs. 1500/- in favour of “Director, Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management” and payable at Nashik. Such candidates shall receive the prospectus after the receipt of the DD.

The Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association, in their endeavour to offer an effective, fair and objective testing procedure to determine merit of students seeking admission to the member institutions, have formed "Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka". (COMEDK).

(COMEDK) has been assigned the task of organising a common entrance test for the academic year 2009-2010, for candidates aspiring to pursue Post Graduate Courses in Medicine and Dentistry in the state of Karnataka, in Member Institutions of the Consortium (Medical and Dental Colleges).

COMEDK entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by centralised counselling (Single window system). The details will be publicised in due course on their website. (http://www.comedk.org)

Applications are invited from Resident Indian Nationals with MBBS Degree (recognized by Medical Council of India), who have completed or due to complete Internship (Rotatory Houseman ship) training by 31-3-2009. Names of the courses, reservation of seats for various categories, method of entrance examination, process of counseling using roster point reservation are detailed in Jipmer website: www.jipmer.edu.in.

Prospectus and Application Forms (A&B) can be obtained on cash payment of Rs. 1000/- (for Unreserved UR/Institute INST/Other Backward Classes OBC) and Rs. 800/- (SC/ST) from only The State Bank of India, Jipmer campus branch from 01.12.2008 to 06.01.2009. The bank timings when the applications will be available are 10.00 am to 4.00 p.m. on all working days (Monday to Friday) and from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon on Saturdays. Application forms can also be had from professor (Academic), Jipmer, Puducherry-605006 up to 30th December 2008 through postal requests, accompanied by a M.I.C.R. Bank Draft of Rs. 1000/- (UR/INST/OBC) and Rs. 800/- (SC/ST) drawn in favour of “Accounts Officer, Jipmer” payable at any Nationalilzed Bank in Puducherry, Union Territory. Two 13 cm width x 7 cm height self addressed labels must accompany the postal request for the correct delivery of the Application Forms.

JIPMER MD/MS/PG/Diploma 2009 Applications can be submitted by an On-line process (Internet based) by accessing the website: www.jipmer.edu.in from 01-12-2008 to 31-12-2008. The candidate should first pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1000/- (UR/INST/OBC) and Rs. 800/- (SC/ST) by obtaining a demand draft as mentioned above. The draft details are required while filling up on-line form. Candidates are required to take a print out of the online application form with the number after successful submission of data. The printed Form with candidate’s signature, left thumb print, photograph and the DD must be sent by Speed Post so as to reach the Professor (Academic), Jipmer, Puducherry-605 006 by 6th January, 2009 – 4.00 p.m. Attested copies of OBC Non-creamy layer Certificate/SC/ST certificate/ Medical certificate in support of Orthopedic disability must be enclosed with the application forms wherever applicable. Failure to enclose these certificates will render the completed applications (both Off-line and On-line) ineligible for entrance examination. Service candidates are required to enclose a No Objection Certificate from their Head of Office along with the completed application forms.

Please Note: On-line applications will be issued Hall-Ticket for Entrance Examination only after the postal receipt of the completed form, Bank Draft and necessary enclosures by the Office of Professor (Academic), Jipmer.

Unsigned/Incompletely filled in applications/Applications received after 6th January 2009 will be rejected and drafts enclosed will not be refunded. No further correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
