ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:

A pass in 10+2 system of Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent with English as one of the subjects. Candidate must have passed English as a subject of study (core/elective/ functional) in the qualifying examination.

Those appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can also appear in JEE 2014 on provisional basis. Provisional admission will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted at the time of counselling or at the time of admission or latest by 30-09-2014.

Qualifying Examinations for Indian Students

·          Plus two level examination in the 10+2 pattern of Senior Secondary education of any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination or State Boards of Secondary Education.

·          Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.

·          General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.

·          High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University.

·          Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in a foreign country recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 pattern of Senior Secondary education.

·          H.S.C. Vocational Examination.

·          Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects including English as one of the Subjects.

Age Limit:

For candidates from General and OBC categories, upper age limit is 22 years as on 01.07.2014. Candidates born on or after July 01, 1992 are eligible. In the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, upper age limit is 25 years as on 01.07.2014. That is SC/ST candidates born on or after July 01, 1989 are eligible. Upper age limit for Physically Challenged candidates shall be reckoned as per the category he/she belongs to i.e. General/SC/ST/OBC. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/Pre-University.

UNDER GRADUATE PROGRAMME:

Four years regular B. Tech. degree in Food Technology and Management:

Eligibility: Candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any other qualifying examination in 2012 or 2013; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam in 2014 are eligible. Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination shall be as under: Physics, Mathematics and one of the subjects from Chemistry, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology with 50% marks in aggregate of all subjects. Besides a candidate must be appearing in JEE (Main) – 2014.

The details of the Master of Engineering (both Regular and Modular) Programmes are as follows.

The regular Master of Engineering (Regular) Programmes include the following

Of this, 19 seats in each programme are for full time sponsored Polytechnic/Engineering College Regular teachers, officials of Directorates and Boards of Technical Education. 4 seats in each programme are for full time sponsored working professionals from industry/other organizations including technical staff of universities and 5 seats are for fresh engineering graduates.

Total number of seats in ME Regular programmes at Sl. Nos. (iv) and (v) above are 26 and 19 respectively. 20 and 11 seats respectively in these programmes are for full time sponsored Polytechnic/Engineering College Regular teachers, officials of Directorates, Boards of Technical Education, and 6 seats and 8 seats respectively in these programmes are for fresh engineering graduates and candidates from industry/ other organizations including technical staff of universities.

Fresh Engineering graduates for all the Programmes and candidates from industry/ other organizations including universities for Programmes (iv) and (v), shall be admitted on the basis of valid GATE score or OCET (Other Common Entrance Test, if conducted by PU, Chandigarh) merit of PU, Chandigarh, as per criteria approved by Panjab University, Chandigarh. All such candidates must apply for these programmes in the institute by the last date, on the application form downloaded from www.nitttrchd.ac.in. In addition they are also required to apply to Panjab University, Chandigarh for appearing in the OCET (Rules & Regulations and date of OCET can be checked from website of Panjab University, Chandigarh: www.pu.ac.in).

Vacant seats, if any, under sponsored category candidates in all ME (Regular) programmes will be filled up from amongst corresponding eligible fresh graduates (with valid GATE score or through OCET of PU, Chandigarh).

 Due credit will be given to GATE qualified fresh engineering candidates for these ME Regular programmes only and shall be offered the seat at the first instance as per Panjab University rules & regulations.

The ME Modular Programmes are the following

(i)    ME in Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing Technology)

(ii)    ME in Civil Engineering (Construction Technology & Management)

(iii)    ME in Computer Science & Engineering

(iv)    ME in Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation and Control)

(v)    ME in Electronics & Communication Engineering

Total number of seats in each of the five ME Modular programmes is 40, for sponsored Polytechnic/Engineering College Regular teachers, officials of Directorates, Boards of Technical Education, Universities and official/staff of NITTTRs. However, sponsored candidates from industry & other organizations may also apply in these ME Modular programmes as vacant seats, if any, under sponsored teacher category candidates in all ME (Modular) programmes will be filled up from amongst corresponding eligible sponsored candidates from industry and other organizations.

15% seats are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5% seats for ST candidates, 3% for disabled candidates and 27% seats for OBC candidates as per instructions of Govt. of India applicable to Central Educational institutions.

Qualifications and Experience needed for Admission are as follows.

(i) ME in Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing Technology) Programme: A Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Technology/Mechanical Engg/Production Engg./Industrial Engg./Automobile Engineering from a recognized University or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.75 (i.e., not less than 60% of marks in aggregate after conversion) or 60% marks in aggregate and post qualification experience of at least 1 year (2 years in case of AMIE) in teaching/industry/research organization.

(ii) ME in Civil Engineering (Construction Technology & Management) Programme: A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.75(i.e., not less than 60% of marks in aggregate after conversion) or 60% marks in aggregate and post qualification experience of at least 1 year (2 years in case of AMIE) in teaching/industry/research organization. 

(iii) ME in Computer Science and Engineering Programme: A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science & Engineering/Electronics Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/Instrumentation & Control Engineering/Information Technology from a recognized University or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.75 (i.e., not less than 60% of marks in aggregate after conversion) or 60% marks in aggregate and post qualification experience of at least 1 year (2 years in case of AMIE) in teaching/industry/research organization.

(iv) ME in Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation and Control) Programme: A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering /Electronics Engineering/ Instrumentation and Control Engineering from a recognized University or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.75 (i.e., not less than 60% of marks in aggregate after conversion) or 60% marks in aggregate and post qualification experience of atleast 1 year (2 years in case of AMIE) in teaching/industry/research organization.

(v) ME in Electronics and Communication Engineering Programme: A Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from a recognized University or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.75 (i.e., not less than 60% of marks in aggregate after conversion) or 60% marks in aggregate and post qualification experience of at least 1 year (2 years in case of AMIE) in teaching/industry/research organization.

The normal duration of ME (Regular) Programmes including thesis will be 2 academic years (4 semesters). The maximum period of completion of the programme including thesis shall be 3 academic years (6 semesters). For ME Modular Programmes, the normal duration of ME (Modular) Programmes including thesis will be 3½ academic years (7 spells, each spell of 5 weeks duration). The maximum period of completion of the programme including thesis shall be 5½ academic years (11 spells).

Application can be downloaded from www.nitttrchd.ac.in, filled and submitted to the institute as per the instructions. The completed application must be accompanied by a Demand Draft for Rs.1,000/- drawn in favour of Director, NITTTR, Chandigarh.

For ME Regular Programmes, the duly sponsored Applications will be accepted up to 5 pm on 24.06.2014.  Merit List will be loaded on Institute Website on 11.07.2014. Counselling for ME Modular Programmes will be at 10 am on 16.07.2014.  Fee to be deposited by 17.07.2014 and classes will begin on 16.07.2014.

For ME Modular Programmes, the duly sponsored Applications will be accepted up to 5 pm on 6.5.2014.  Merit List will be loaded on Institute Website on 23.05.2014. Counselling for ME Modular Programmes will be at 10 am on 30.05.2014. Fee to be deposited by 3.6.2014 and classes will begin on 7.6.2014.

No separate call letters will be issued for attending the counselling.

Preparation of Merit List for sponsored candidates: The Institute will prepare merit list of all sponsored eligible candidates based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained in all the semesters/years of qualifying examination and the total experience. The admission is granted to candidates strictly according to the merit list, prepared as follows:

(i) Qualification Multiplying Factor: Percentage of marks in BE or its equivalent X 0.4. The candidates must write in the application form, the maximum marks, marks obtained in each of eight semesters/four years and the exact percentage of aggregate marks.

(ii) Experience: One score for each completed year of experience on the last day of receiving application gained after obtaining minimum entry qualification subject to a maximum of ten. Experience against leave vacancy, Visiting/guest faculty will not be counted.

The total score calculated based on qualifications and experience as mentioned here should not be less than 25. In case of a tie in the score of merit so calculated, seniority in age will be the deciding factor for their inter-se merit.

Eligibility:

A pass in the +2 (or) its equivalent examination with Mathematics & Physics as compulsory subjects with either Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Biology and recognized by any State Board / Central Board or any other accepted by SASTRA as equivalent to 10+2 (or) its equivalent examination, with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Biology obtained in a single sitting. • Students with diploma in Engineering / Technology are eligible for direct admission to the second year of the relevant B.Tech. Programme. • The candidate should not have completed 19 years as on 1.7.2014. (21 years for Lateral Entry)

Admission to the B.Tech. / 5-year Integrated M.Tech. programmes will be conducted under two streams.

Stream 1 (based on JEE(Main) 2014 and +2 Marks) for 70% of seats

Stream 2 (based on +2 marks) for 30% of seats

All the applicants will be eligible for both the streams and there is no need to submit two separate application forms. Normalization of +2 (or its equivalent) total marks: To bring all candidates from different examining authorities/ boards in the same scale of comparison and to create a list in the order of merit, the +2 or its equivalent total marks will be normalized. A first rank student of each board is considered to have obtained 100% mark and aggregate mark of all other students of the board is normalized with reference to that of the first rank student. For example, if the first rank is 97% and an applicant’s aggregate is 90% then the applicant’s normalized +2 marks is 92.78 (90/97x100).

Stream 1 Admission: Applicants under stream 1 will be admitted to 70% of the seats based on JEE (Main) 2014 scores and normalized +2 total marks. The weightage for JEE Main scores and normalized +2 total marks will be 25% & 75% respectively and applicants will be ranked based on the resultant combined score. For example: If a student secures a JEE Main Score of 185 and normalized +2 total marks of 95%, the combined score of the student will be (0.25*185) + (0.75*95) = 117.5

The combined score will be used to determine the SASTRA Rank and admission will be based on the SASTRA Rank secured by the applicant. Total seats in Stream 1 will be filled in the following method: (i) 20% (10%+10%) of intake will be offered to the students from Trichy and Thanjavur Districts, provided the applicant has completed both X and XII from any school located in Trichy or Thanjavur District. (ii) 50% of the intake will be offered to those who complete X and XII in schools within Tamilnadu (Puducherry included). (iii) The remaining 30% will be for students who have completed X and XII in schools in rest of India.

Stream 2 Admission: Applicants under Stream 2 will be admitted based on their normalized +2 total marks. This is for 30% of the total seats. A merit list is drawn based on the normalized percentage for making admissions for the 30% of the total seats. The Trichy/Thanjavur/Tamilnadu and All India categories will be applicable as per Stream 1. Note: 1) Applicants are allowed to attend counselling for stream 2 even if they are admitted under Stream 1 and can change branch, if they wish to.

For all PG programmes the admissions will be made on the basis of the scores in the qualifying UG / PG degree programme. GATE qualified candidates will be given preference for Engineering programmes and for MBA, students with good CAT/XAT/AIMAT/CMAT scores will be given preference. For all degree programmes in Law, admissions will be based on the CLAT-2014 Scores and +2 aggregate taken in the ratio of 25% & 75%. For all other degree programmes in Sciences, Arts, Commerce, Education, etc. admissions will be based on the qualifying exam marks.

Please note that the last date for receiving application for both Streams is June 7, 2014. Applicants are advised to submit application with results of +2 and JEE (Main) 2014 along with relevant photocopies. JEE (Main) 2014 details are mandatory (if appeared) for those who are applying under Stream 1. The applicant is advised to enter both +2 & JEE (Main) 2014 details in his/her own interest as they can attend both counselling using the same application form. If an applicant has not appeared for JEE (Main) 2014, for Stream 1, the weighted score for the 25% will be 0 but the +2 aggregate will be given 75% weightage to arrive at the combined score. However, for the Stream 2, the weightage for +2 marks will be 100%. This way, an applicant will be considered in Stream 1 & Stream 2 by default.
