Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore has invited application from JEST / GATE / CSIR-NET (JRF) qualified students for admission to the following courses of academic year 2011:


1. PhD Programme in collaboration with Pondicherry University (PU)
2. Integrated MSc - PhD Programme in Physics and Astrophysics in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)
3. Integrated MTech - PhD (Tech.) Programme in Astronomical Instrumentation in collaboration with University of Calcutta (CU)

Eligibility:
The qualifying degree requirements for the above courses are as follows:

(i) PhD Programme: MSc / Integrated MSc in Applied Physics / Engg. Physics / Applied Mathematics / Astronomy / Electronics / Mathematics / Photonics / Optics / Physics OR ME / MTech / Integrated ME / MTech in Applied Physics / Engg. Physics / Computer Science / Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Photonics / Optics / Opto-electronics / Radio Physics and Electronics OR MPhil in Applied Physics / Instrumentation / Mathematics / Photonics / Optics / Physics



(ii) Integrated MSc - PhD Programme: BSc (Mathematics / Physics) OR BE / BTech in Applied Physics / Engg. Physics / Computer Science / Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Mechanical / Photonics / Optics / Opto-electronics



(iii) Integrated MTech - PhD (Tech.) Programme: MSc / Integrated MSc in Applied Physics / Engg. Physics / Applied Mathematics / Astronomy / Electronics / Photonics / Optics Physics OR BE / BTech in Applied Physics / Engg. Physics / Computer Science / Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation / Photonics / Optics / Opto-electronics / BTech (Post BSc Hons.) in Optics and Optoelectronics / Radio Physics and Electronics / Applied Physics / Computer Science / Electronics / Instrumentation

Apart from the above, two reference letters should be filled in by persons who are familiar with candidate's academic abilities and who can objectively assess his suitability for a research career. The letter is strictly confidential and should be posted directly by the referee in an envelope so as to reach Board of Graduate Studies, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore-560034 on or before 22nd April, 2011.


Suitable referees are:
i) A lecturer or a professor who has taught you recently a science or engineering course for at least one semester.
ii) An academic or technical person with whom you have carried out a scientific / technical project for a minimum of three months.
