ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMES FOR THE YEAR 2012-13

VSU Research Entrance Test (VSURESET-2012) will be conducted on the date mentioned above for admission to research programmes leading to Ph.D. in different disciplines of Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore, with research supervisors from the Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore, VSU PG Centre, Kavali and VSU affiliated Colleges and recognized research supervisors from Research Institutions/Laboratories. Ph.D. degree programmes shall be pursued either on full-time or part-time basis in the subject concerned of the post-graduation.
Candidates who have completed the final year examinations and awaiting results can also apply.
However they should possess the qualification as on the date of counselling for admission, failing which their candidature will be rejected.
Mere qualifying in the VSURESET-2012 will not ensure admission unless the eligibility conditions are satisfied.
Fee once paid for VSURESET-2012 will not be refunded.
The admission to Ph.D. shall be divided into two.
(1) This admission will be conducted at any given time in an academic year by the University.
Candidates who have passed UGC/CSIR NET/SLET/GATE examination, DST-Inspire, ICMR, DBT etc., Fellowship holders are exempted from the Entrance Test. However, they have to apply for consideration for direct admission.
(2) Candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. in Vikrama Simhapuri University should qualify in VSURESET-2012. Admission based on VSURESET-2012 shall be restricted only for that academic year.
Candidates already holding M.Phil. degree in the subject concerned should also qualify in the VSU RESET examination for admission to Ph.D. in the discipline concerned.
Interdisciplinary Research: A candidate for the Ph.D. degree may undertake interdisciplinary research in the University. Such candidates may register for Ph.D. degree under joint guidance. He/She shall work in the department of the subject in which he/she obtained the Master’s degree with a teacher from that department as a “guide”. He/She shall have a “Co-guide” from a relevant discipline. He/She shall be awarded the degree in the discipline from which he/she has a guide mentioning specifically the title of the thesis and the subjects involved therein.
External Guide: A candidate can register with an external guide from National Laboratories/ Research Institutions with a “co-guide” from Vikrama Simhapuri University. Such a candidate will be registered in the Department of the subject in which he/she obtained the Master’s degree.
The decision of the University Research Committee (URC) is final in all matters related to research admissions.
Vikrama Simhapuri University offers collaborative research with leading National level research institutions and laboratories as identified by the University Research Committee (URC).
The rules governing the Research Entrance Tests and other regulations for admissions in Vikrama Simhapuri University are available in the website www.simhapuriuniv.org .

Provision is also available for research programmes leading to Ph.D. degrees of this University for those working in NATIONAL LABORATORIES and RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS recognized by Vikrama Simhapuri University atleast with two years work experience (part-time)
2. ELIGIBILITY FOR TAKING THE ENTRANCE TEST:
Candidates who have secured at least a Second Class in Master’s degree of V.S. University in the concerned discipline or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto by VS University, with a minimum of 55% of marks in the concerned subject are eligible to apply. However, a relaxation of 5% of marks is allowed to SC/ST candidates.
3. HOW TO APPLY
The Instructions Booklet and the SVURESET-2012application form can be downloaded from the website www.simhapuriuniv.org. The filled in application along with a DD for Rs. 500/- towards registration fee, drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of “ Registrar, Vikrama Simhapuri University,” payable at NELLORE with name and address of the candidate written on the reverse of the draft along with the certificates (relevant) should be submitted either in person or sent by registered post so as to reach the following address on or before 20-09-2012

Incomplete applications will be rejected. Applications received after the specified date will besummarily rejected and the cost of application will not be refunded. The Registrar is not responsible for any postal delay or loss in postal transit.
4. SUBMISSION OF FILLED IN APPLICATIONS WITH CERTIFICATES
Each filled in application should be submitted along with the following enclosures:
1. Xerox copy of P.G. Degree/Provisional Pass Certificate
2. Xerox copy of P.G. Marks Statements
3. Xerox copy of Caste Certificate in case of SC/ST candidates.
4. Xerox copy of certificate of having passed UGC/CSIR NET/GATE. if any.
5. Xerox copy of the income certificate where necessary.
6. One self addressed envelope (9X4) stamped Rs.10/- and one self addressed A4 Size envelope stamped Rs.34/- for receiving Ph.D. application for those qualified in VSURESET-2012. 5. PARTICULARS OF THE ENTRANCE TEST
5.1 VSURESET-2012 will be held on 30-09-2012 in VSU campus. Nellore. Hall tickets will be dispatched by ordinary post under certificate of posting and VSU is not responsible for postal delays.
However, the list of candidates with hall ticket numbers will be notified in the website.
5.2 The test will be of 2 hours duration with 120 multiple choice questions carrying one mark for each question.
5.3 The syllabus for the Entrance Test is the PG Syllabus of Vikrama Simhapuri University for the concerned subject. The syllabus for the entrance test and the model question paper giving sample questions can be downloaded from the website www.simhapuriuniv.org .
5.4 The entrance test question paper will have two parts, Part-A and Part-B.
5.5 Part-A shall consist of 30 multiple choice questions related General Aptitude. This is common for all. Part-B is related to specific subject of the candidate with 90 multiple choice questions.
6. QUALIFYING MARKS AT THE ENTRANCE TEST
A candidate seeking admission to Ph.D. (Full-time/Part-time) shall have to qualify at the VSURESET-2012 and obtain a minimum of 50 percent marks at the Entrance Test. However, in the case of SC/ST candidates, the minimum shall be 35 percent.
7. HALL TICKETS
7.1 Hall tickets will be sent to the eligible candidates 10 days before the date of Entrance Test.
7.2 In case of non-receipt of original hall ticket, the candidates can collect the same from the office of Registrar, VSU and attend the examination or he/she should contact the Registrar, Vikrama Simhapuri University,
Nellore at least one day before the date of the Entrance Test with 2 passport size photos and a demand draft for Rs. 50/- drawn in favour of the Registrar, V.S.University along with the evidence of having submitted the application, to receive a duplicate hall ticket.
7.3 VSURESET- 2012 hall ticket is to be produced at the time of admission. Candidates are advised to preserve the hall ticket carefully till the admission process of selected candidates is completed.
8. ADMISSION PROCEDURE
8.1 Candidates qualified in the VSURESET-2012 or who have passed UGC/CSIR-NET / GATE / SLET etc. examination will receive one application form for admission.
8.2 Each qualified candidate should attend a viva-voce in which he/she shall present the outline of the proposed research.
8.3 The admission application forms should be filled in carefully including the consent of the guide and the same should be returned to the Registrar, VSU, within the date specified along with Xerox copies of the enclosures as given below.
a) Hall ticket; b) Rank card; c) SSC Certificate; d) Three self-addressed stamped envelopes;
e) PG Pass Certificate; f) Transfer Certificate; g) GATE/NET Certificates; h) Research
Supervisor’s consent and i) First page of service Register / work experience certificate (part time only)
8.4 Earning eligibility in the Entrance Test does not guarantee a seat and does not confer on the candidate the right of admission.
8.5 The selection of a candidate to the Ph.D. programme is based on (a) eligibility in the Entrance Test (b)
availability of a seat with a teacher and (c) consent of the teacher to guide the student. Application
without the signature of the proposed Research Supervisor will not be considered for admission. The
selection of candidates will be decided by the Admission Committee.
8.6 At the time of admissions, the candidate (for both full-time and part-time research) shall submit his/her original Transfer Certificate (TC).
9. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
9.1 A candidate may be permitted to carry out Full-time Ph.D. Programme only when he/she satisfies the following:
(i) Candidates shall have a Postgraduate Degree of this University or a Degree recognized as equivalent there to in the concerned subject of Postgraduation.
ii) candidates shall have a minimum of 55% marks in the concerned subject of Postgraduation. However, for SC/ST candidates the minimum mark is 50%.
(iii) Candidate shall have to qualify in VSURESET-2012 or in GATE /UGCNET/SLET/CSIR/Other National Level Examination.
9..2 A candidate who is in employment may be permitted to carry out Part-time Ph.D. programme only when he/she satisfies the eligibility criteria mentioned in 4.1(a) and belongs to any one of the following categories: (Permanent employees shall submit an attested copy of the first page of the Service Register at the time of registration.)
i) A Teacher/Research Assistant/Research Fellow working in the Vikrama Simhapuri
University with not less than two years of Regular Service.
ii) Non-Teaching Staff of Vikrama Simhapuri University with not less than 2 years of Regular Service.
iii) A Lecturer working in a College affiliated to S.V. University / other universities with 2 years of teaching experience as Permanent employee / 5 years of teaching experience as Temporary / ad hoc employee.
iv) Junior Lecturers in Junior Colleges or Polytechnics/ DIET/PG Teachers equivalent to Junior Lecturers working in recognized institutions with 2 years of teaching experience as Permanent employee / 5 years of teaching experience as Temporary / ad hoc employee.
v) Librarians / Assistant Librarians / Library Assistants working in Colleges / Junior Colleges with 2 years of experience as Permanent employee / 5 years of experience as Temporary / ad hoc employee.
vi) Lecturers in Physical Education / Physical Directors working in Colleges / Junior Colleges with 2 years of experience as Permanent employee / 5 years of experience as Temporary / ad hoc employee.
vii) Teachers with PG Degree working in Engineering Colleges with 2 years of teaching experience as Permanent employee / 5 years of teaching experience as Temporary / ad hoc employee.
viii) Permanent employees working in Reputed National/State Institutions with not less than 2 years of Regular service. (The list of such institutes shall be furnished by the Departmental Research Committee (DRC)).
ix) An Executive with a minimum of 10 years of service in Commercial Banks, Industries, Financial Institutions, Reputed Service Organizations, Central / State government Gazette and Non-Gazetted Officers. These Executives shall qualify for admission to Ph.D. (Part-time) programme by passing VSURESET-2012 and shall qualify all other requirements as prescribed for registration to Ph.D. programme.
9.3 Retired employees are not eligible for Part-time Research Programme.
