STDP Programms for School Children
Centre for Science in Society, Cochin University of
Science & Technology has invited applications for Science Talent and Total
Capacity Development Programmes (STDP) for school Children now (2014-15)
studying in 4th to 9th standards. (4 to 6 standards: Junior (J) batch; 7 to 9
standards: Senior (S) batch.)
The facilities used for the courses are:
1. Science
Park
2. Herbal
Garden
3. Science
Pavilions
4. Butterfly
Garden
5. Maths Lab
6. Physics
Lab.
7. Chemistry
Lab
8. Biology
Lab
9. Computer
/ IT Lab
10. Children's Science Library
11. Astronomical telescope for sky watching
(optional) etc.
The courses wi11 be conducted from Monday to
Saturday every week.
Module M1: From 1st April to 30th April 2015
Module M2: From 4th May to 30th May 2015
Timings: 8.30 am - 12.30 pm / 10.30 am - 3.30 pm.
There will be two batches namely, juniors (4, 5
& 6th stds.) and seniors (7, 8, 9th stds.).
The various activities during the programme will
include:
Science Classes with demonstrations by eminent
teachers and scientists; Laboratory Practical’s (Physics, Chemistry, Biology,
Mathematics and IT); Science Park - learn while you play; Demonstrations of
Science gadgets - Science Pavilions; Science Library; Computer Lab; Quiz Programmes;
Seminars; Personality Development, Behavioural lessons; Capacity enhancement
activities; Spoken English, Spoken Malayalam classes, basic lessons for arts
and crafts, Interactions with models and science based toys; Meeting important
personalities, Teachers and Scientists, Visits to research laboratories etc.
Project work on History of Science; Life stories of scientists; Inventions
& Discoveries; Display of statues of great scientists to excite the minds
of young children to the world of science etc.
A Science exhibition is organized during the last
week of each course. The children will have to present gadgets designed and
developed by them in the exhibition. Prizes will be awarded for exhibition and
project reports.
Total cost-share amount to be paid at the time of
admission: Course fee for M1/M2 Rs. 4,950/-. The cost - share amount includes
Course fee, Lab / Project Manuals, Books, Bag, Chemicals Lab / Library damages
/ losses.
For admission to STDP courses, applications on
plain paper giving name of student, class and school now (2014-15) studying,
name, address and phone numbers of the guardian may be submitted along with the
cost-share fee (Direct Cash / Bank Draft payable to Director, C-5/5, at State
Bank of Travancore, CUSAT Campus Branch, Cochin-682 022) to the Director,
C-SiS, CUSAT, Cochin - 682022.
