Quantitative health research involves skills consisting of epidemiology and biostatistics. Data collection is the most vital part of conducting any research. This workshop will focus on topics that will teach the necessary skills for developing tools of quantitative research, improving those tools and using them in the field for data collection. These tools need to be developed in such a way that later on this data can be effectively used for analysis, especially using biostatistical softwares.
This workshop will benefit anyone involved in quantitative health research such as surveys, experiments or trials, disease surveillance etc. Thus this workshop can be very useful for health professionals, social researchers, health economists, NGO professionals and government health workers.

Registration Fee:
National participants: 6000 INR per participant International participants: 12000 INR per participant Accommodation (Optional): 4000 INR per national/ international participant for four days hostel accommodation (Double occupancy (Non-AC) including meals).

This workshop will be suitable for faculty members and researchers engaged in quantitative research and teaching in the field of public health and development, NGOs and international organizations responsible for managing research projects and programs, as well as post graduate/PHD students.

Eligibility for programmes:
Candidates seeking admission to the PGDM programme shall be required to possess a bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline of a University or equivalent thereto. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and physically challenged candidates will be applicable as per Govt. of India rules. Physically challenged candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates appearing for the final examination are also eligible to apply, provided they complete it by October 31, 2013. In case the candidate fails to establish eligibility by this date, the admission would be cancelled and fees will be forfeited.

Eligible candidates must write any one of the following national level exams:

  • Valid MAT score (September 2012, December 2012 and February 2013)
  • Valid CAT score (2012)
  • CMAT 2013 - 2014 (October 2012 and February 2013)
  • XAT 2013
  • ATMA

ABOUT THE COURSE
Animal Biotechnology Centre is organizing a Short Course Training Programme on “Recent Advances in Proteomics for Biomarker Discovery” from July 08 - July 17, 2013, which is being sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The aim of the training is to impart basic and advanced skills to work on “Basics of protein science with introduction to proteomics and its application in Biomarker discovery. Emphasis will be given on hands on training on 2-D proteomics and Bioinformatics analysis”.

COURSE CONTENTS
Introduction to proteomics
Techniques for sample preparation from different sources
Purification of proteins by chromatography
SDS-PAGE: Principle and Applications
2-Dimsional gel electrophoresis: basics
Differential gel electrophoresis (DIGE)
Concepts on Biomarker discovery for application in biomedical science
Spot picking of protein spots by robotic spot picker
Digestion of protein spots for Mass Spectrometry
Use of bioinformatics softwares in biomarker discovery and proteome analysis

ELIGIBILITY
This in-house training program is targeted at enhancing capabilities of participants working in ICAR Institutes/State AUs/, CAUs/Agricultural faculty of AMU, BHU, Vishwa Bharti and Nagaland University in the cadre of Assistant Professor or equivalent and above, who is working or planning to work in different areas of proteomics and biomarker discovery.
