MBA International Business course


The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, a deemed university under the Union government, has invited applications for admission to its MBA International Business course at its New Delhi and Kolkata centres. 

Selection is through a written, test, essay writing, a group discussion and an interview. The written test will be held on November 25 in various places in the country.

Those who have a degree or appearing in the final year examinations of the degree course may apply.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES
Management Development Programmes (MDPs) has been one of the major activities of the Institute.

At the time of its inception in 1963, it was envisaged that IIFT should become a centre of excellence for Executive Development Programme in International Business, and today it has emerged as a knowledge resource division to catering to the needs of managers and executives at all levels drawn from the corporate, government and public sectors both in India and abroad.
The objective of our MDPs is to provide the participants an excellent opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with the experienced faculty and fellow participant's newer insights and help crystallize the concepts for better decision making.
It also facilitates business executives to explore new frontiers of knowledge, sharpen their skills and help their organizations to achieve newer heights.
IIFT offers wide spectrum of MDPs in different areas of International Business such as international marketing and trade operations, soft skills, international financial management, international logistics and global supply chain, international business and negotiations, WTO and trade policies in India and abroad, for the executives of the industry, and policy makers in the Government.
These MDPs are structured keeping in mind the changing global business environment and international standards which help in developing the skills and competency of the participants.

The participant profile of our open programmes comprises executives from corporate sector, trade facilitation agencies, ministries & departments of the Government, export promotion organizations and entrepreneurs.

IIFT offers MDPs in five categories, which are as follows:

MBA (INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS) PART TIME

The MBA (International Business) is a unique Business Management Programme for developing a competent cadre of Business Executives to meet the country's growing requirements for trained personnel in the field of international business management.

Developments in the international market on the one hand and the consequential impact of the same on India's domestic market on the other, call for an increasingly professional approach and sensitivity to international business environments.


Objectives:
The MBA(IB) aims at imparting professional education and training in modern management techniques for handling international business operations in a highly dynamic and competitive environment. The specific objectives of the Programme are:
· To prepare the participants to face challenges in the emerging competitive business environment in an increasingly globalized world.
· To relate the management concepts to business situations and help the participants to develop analytical and decision making skills so as to formulate effective national and international business strategy.
· Promote a scientific approach and capability to eventually undertake senior management responsibilities in International Business.

The Programme aims at providing a comprehensive coverage incorporating all the important subject areas and disciplines relevant to international business. Equal emphasis has been placed on the quantitative and analytical approach to the study of international business by covering methods of doing business as well as trade and business practices, procedures and documentation in other countries.

Besides, effective use of computers and modern information technology are made in the training pedagogy. Recognizing the importance of communication in international business, special attention is given to developing proficiency in one of the three foreign languages, currently under offer, namely French, Mandarin and Spanish.


ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
Eligibility:

· Bachelor's Degree from any recognized University or Institution
· A minimum managerial experience (including self-employed) of not less than THREE Years as on June 30, 2012. (Only the work experience after eligibility qualifications will be considered).
· No Objection Certificate from employer is required.
· No age limit.

Mode of Admission:
· Essay Writing, GD and Interview in May 2012.
· Seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer) and Physically Handicapped candidates as per Government of India norms.
· Results will be put up at the IIFT Website: www.iift.edu within a couple of days after the interviews.

How to Apply:
· Application for the Programme is through prescribed Application Form available at IIFT.

· The forms will be supplied against a demand draft of 1,200 ( 600 for SC/ST/PH candidates) favouring “Indian Institute of Foreign Trade” payable at New Delhi or cash payment of 1,200 ( 600 for SC/ST/PH candidates). SC/ST/PH category candidates are required to produce photocopy of the Certificate for purchasing the Application Form.

The Ph.D. Programme of the Institute covers Doctoral research in a variety of business related areas leading to the award of Ph.D. degree. The main objectives of the Ph.D. Programme are:
• To provide facilities for higher studies and advanced research in areas relating to International Business;
• To encourage and facilitate research on contemporary issues in the field of International Business; and
• To encourage publication of research papers in academic journals, occasional papers and monographs, books and other refereed forums.
One of the primary purposes of doctoral studies is to encourage in-depth analysis and enrich knowledge in the chosen field. This includes the ability to independently apply methodologies of scientific research as well as to create new scientific knowledge. Further, the candidate should demonstrate an ability to critically analyze research findings and to understand their importance in the relevant context. Skills to undertake and to effectively communicate research results are needed in order to succeed in postgraduate studies.
Thus, it is important to assume an adequate knowledge and understanding of the problems, research methodologies, historical developments, theory formulation and societal importance of the scientific disciplines which are related to the candidate’s own research field.
IIFT has two campuses, viz. New Delhi and Kolkata. Selected candidates can attend the course classes from Delhi as well as Kolkata campus (via video conferencing).

Number of seats:
• Total Number of Seats: FIFTEEN (13 + 2 Sponsored Candidates).
• The admitted students will be distributed between Part Time and Full Time research scholars.
• IIFT will follow the ‘Reservation’ policy as per Government of India Rules.

Eligibility:
The eligibility for applying in IIFT’s Ph.D. programme are the following:
• Master’s degree (including IIFT MPIB/MBA (IB)), in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 55% marks or equivalent to B Plus in aggregate.
OR
• Four years of B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent degree in engineering from a recognized university with minimum 60% (CGPA of 4.5 on a scale of 7 or equivalent to B Plus) and minimum 5 years of
work experience.
OR
• Diploma courses which are considered equivalent to Master Degree (e.g. PGDIM from IIMs) with 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus, recognized by AICTE/UGC only would be considered. In such cases candidates would be required to produce the necessary certificate(s) from competent authority.
OR
• A Professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS, with at least 55% marks or CGPA equivalent to B Plus and minimum 5 years of work experience.
Overseas students can also apply as long as they satisfy the above-mentioned criteria. They need to produce GMAT score (the GMAT result should not have been declared before 1st
January 2010 and should be received by the Institute latest by 31st March 2012) to get exemption from appearing in Entrance Tests. Candidates only with GMAT scores of 500 and above may apply. However, they will be required to appear for viva-voce and attend the course work in the campus, if selected.

Desireable:
• Credits would be given to candidates with good publication records such as books, papers in National/ International Journals and paper presentation experiences in National/International conferences.
• Candidates with prior teaching and research experience or Candidates from industry having made exceptional contribution in their area of work would be given an important consideration.


Admission Processes:
A three-stage process is followed for admission to the Ph.D. Programme.
Stage I: The Expert Panel Members of the Institute will screen the applications together with necessary
enclosures and prepare the list of the candidates to be allowed for appearing in the entrance
examination based on their academic eligibility. The list will be uploaded in the web-page of the
Institute, well in advance of the entrance test.
Stage II: Only eligible candidates will be called for the Written Entrance Test, comprising of:
• One hour Objective Test (based on Logical Reasoning and Mathematics (12th Standard)) and
• One hour Descriptive Test (on Research Aptitude) to judge writing skill of candidates on contemporary i s s u e s
It is important to note that Objective Test is a screening test. Papers of the Descriptive test will be examined only for those candidates, who qualify in the objective test. Qualifying both the tests is essential and merit list will be prepared considering marks received by a candidate in both the tests.

Stage III: Candidates who would qualify in the Entrance test will subsequently appear for an interview
conducted by Expert Panel Members at the Institute in New Delhi.

IIFT will not bear any cost borne by the candidates for appearing in the written test and viva-voce.

Note:-
There will be an evaluation committee under the Supervision of Chairperson (Research) to scrutinize the applications of the candidates in order to call them for entrance examination. Applications will be arranged according to different subject areas.
In case of sponsored candidates, Admission Process will be similar. Separate merit list will be prepared for sponsored candidates.


Exam centres:
• The written entrance examination will take place both in Kolkata and New Delhi campus of the institute.
• However, interview of a candidate, qualifying the entrance examination, will only be conducted in the New Delhi campus of the institute.

The Institute, a Deemed University set up by the Department of Commerce, Government of India, invites applications for MBA (IB) Degree programme being offered at Delhi & Kolkata campuses
Eligibility:
Recognized Bachelor’s degree of minimum 3 years’ duration in any discipline.
Candidates appearing for a qualifying examination can also apply subject to submission of proof of requisite qualification by 7th October 2010
No age limit

Reservations:
Seats are reserved as per Government of India rules. The reservation is subject to candidates meeting the admission requirements of the Institute under different categories

Mode of Admission:
1. On the basis of written test, group discussion, essay writing and interview.

Hostel: Hostel facilities are available at both IIFT Delhi and Kolkata Centre.

Tution Fees
The exact amount of tuition fee and other chargers, as applicable for MBA (IB) 2010-12, will be informed to the students at the time of sending the offer letters in March 2010. However, for the current batch the tuition fee is Rs 3, 50,000 per year (50% concession to sc/st/ph candidates) and us$ 18,500 per year for foreign national/nri/children of nri.

Admit Cards
The Admit Cards will be sent BY POST to all the students, who submit filled-in Application Form complete in all respects (online or offline), in the first week of November 2009. Applicants, who do not receive their Admit Cards by 14th November 2009 can download the Admit Card from IIFT's website. With a printout of the Admit Card, the candidates should reach the venue of the Exam Centre on 22nd November 2009 latest by 9.00 a.m. with one of the following documents:

 Election I-Card
 College I-Card
 Driving I-Card

for appearing in the Exam.

Admit Cards

The Admit Cards will be sent BY POST to all the students, who submit filled-in Application Form complete in all respects (online or offline), in the first week of November 2009. Applicants, who do not receive their Admit Cards by 14th November 2009 can download the Admit Card from IIFT’s website. With a printout of the Admit Card, the candidates should reach the venue of the Exam Centre on 22nd November 2009 latest by 9.00 a.m. with one of the following documents:

* Passport
* Election I-Card
* College I-Card
* Driving I-Card

for appearing in the Exam. In case of any problem, the candidates can contact Shri Gaurav Gulati, Administrative Officer. They must indicate their Application No. in their communications to IIFT.
