Ph.D. Admission Notice 2015

National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune under Department of Biotechnology has invited application from candidates who are bonafide Indian citizens and having consistently good academic record for the admission to Ph.D programme of July-August 2015.

ELIGIBILITY FOR NCCS Ph.D. PROGRAM:
I. Should have Masters (postgraduate) degree in any branch of Science with interest in pursuing research in Modern Biology and having at least 50% or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) and with a valid fellowship from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC/ DST-Inspire /BINC, etc.

II. Students with post graduate degree, who do not have individual fellowship but have qualified JGEEBILS exam conducted by NCBS/TIFR on 8th December, 2014 will be eligible to apply and will be shortlisted by NCCS criteria for MCQ test/interview

III. Students who have a fellowship and expect to be awarded M.Sc. Degree by end of July-2015 are also eligible to apply. Their selection will be provisional and will be cancelled if the final results are not produced by the end of November 2015.

IV. All the eligible complete applications received within the last date will be screened and shortlisted candidates will be called for MCQ entrance test/interview as per the schedule given below.

V. Candidates who have qualified only for Lectureship in CSIR-UGC (NET) and the ?Project List of ICMR? are not eligible.

VI. Other terms and conditions of the fellowship will be directed by the agency awarding the fellowship. The upper age limit for JRF shall be 28 years which is relaxed up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Women/PH and 3 years in case of OBC candidates.

VII. Reservation will be as per Government of India guidelines.

APPLICATIONS:
Interested candidates who satisfy the above criteria may submit their typed application in the prescribed format (download from NCCS web site). The completed hardcopy application form along with the copies of M.Sc. marks statement and Fellowship certificate/admit card should reach the Dean (Academics), National Centre for Cell Science, University of Pune Campus, Ganeshkhind, Pune 411 007 on or before 25th May 2015. SC/ST/OBC candidates should also attach true copy of Caste Certificate / Latest non-creamy layer certificate along with the application and originals should be produced at the time of Interview

Personal interview will be held at NCCS, Pune of all shortlisted candidates as per NCCS criteria. In case of a large number of eligible applications, a MCQ based entrance test will be held on 22nd June 2015 at NCCS from 10.00 am onwards. Details of the interview process/schedule will be published on the NCCS website along with the list of shortlisted candidates on 5th June 2015

Candidates should bring all originals with attested copy of following documents at the time of Interview.
1) Birth certificate/ proof of Date of birth.
2) SC/ST/Physical Handicapped category certificate from competent authorities.
3) Statement of marks of each year/semester of graduation
4) Statement of marks of each year/semester of (M.Sc.)
5) Fellowship Certificate
6) For OBC category, valid Non-creamy layer certificate.

Biotechnology Eligibility Test-2015

Applications are invited by National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune from Indian nationals for the award of 'DBT-Junior Research Fellowship' (DBT-JRF) for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and Applied Biology.

JRFs will be selected according to merit under two categories:
Category I & II. Category I fellowship (Top 275 in number) are tenable in any University / Institute in India where the students can register for PhD Category II students (100 in number) will be eligible to join any DBT sponsored Project and avail fellowship equivalent to NET / GATE qualifications as per DST Guidelines, subject to selection through institutional selection process. Fellowship will be co-terminus with the duration of project and institutional rules will be applicable. There will be no binding on PIs of DBT sponsored projects to select JRF / SRF for their projects from category II list. Selection in Category II will not entitle student for any fellowship from DBT-JRF programme.

Eligibility
Candidates can appear for BET examination only thrice during their career within the prescribed age limit. Candidates who have completed eligibility qualification in a year will be eligible to appear in that year and two subsequent years. Students who have passed after Jan.1, 2013 or will appear this year (till August, 2015) final examination of qualifying degree is eligible. Students with MSc / MTech / MVSc degree with Biotechnology in title of degree e.g. Biotechnology, specialization such as Agricultural, Animal / Veterinary, Medical, Marine, Industrial, Environmental, Pharmaceutical, Food, Bio-resources Biotechnology, 'Biochemical Engineering, Bio-sciences and Biotechnology, Bioinformatics' and MSc 'Molecular & Human Genetics' and MSc.

'Neuroscience' as well as BTech / BE in Biotechnology (4-year course after 10+2) recognized by UGC / AICTE are eligible for this examination. The applicants should be below the age of 28 years for Open category as on 28th February 2015. Candidates with minimum 60% for general and OBC category (55% for SC / ST / PH) of the total marks (equivalent grade) are only eligible. DBT-BET (category I) entitles a candidate for fellowship subject to PhD registration of the candidate in a recognized university or Institute in the country within 2 years.

Reservations:
Government of India guidelines for reservations will be followed for BET-2015. Age relaxation of 5 years (up to 33 years) for SC / ST / PH and women candidates and 3 years (31 years) for OBC candidates will be given. The age limit will be as on 28th Feb. 2015. SC / ST / PH candidates with 55% of the total marks (equivalent in grade) are eligible to apply.

Details of the Award
The fellowship will be initially for a period of 3 years extendable for 2 more years based on performance. By the end of 2nd year, the performance of JRF will be assessed and will be upgraded to SRF. The fellowship for JRF / SRF will be @ Rs. 25,000/- or 28,000/- per month + HRA as per DST guidelines and research contingency of Rs. 30,000/- per year.

Mode of Selection
The candidates will be selected based on an online admission test, 'Biotechnology Eligibility Test' (BET) to be conducted on 26th April, 2015 at 2.30 pm in the following twelve cities:
New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Patna, Trivandrum & Ahmedabad.

The last date for submission of online application form is 25th March, 2015. Stepwise procedure for filling the online application form, payment of application fees and uploading of required documents / certificates is given in the above said URL. General / OBC candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs. 500/- and SC / ST / PH categories are exempted from payment of application fees.
