Notice of admission to M.A. program in English

The Department of English at Shiv Nadar University would like to announce that admission into the Masters Program in English is now open for the 2015-16 academic year.

The new M.A, is a two-year (four semesters) program. It is designed to combine rigour with creativity. It will take students through the significant moments in English literary history and world literature but it also incorporates courses in critical and cultural theory, translation, creative writing and visual theory. It is our intention to equip our M.A. students with the skills needed for a range of competitive examinations as well as for careers in publishing and the media. Most of all, we see potential academics in our best students and we are committed to supporting them through research careers in every possible way. This involves preparing them for admission into PhD programs.

The department offers several full-cost scholarships to its M. A. students on the basis of need and merit. To fee-paying students we offer teaching assistantships which will bring down the cost of their education considerably.

Eligibility: A candidate should have an undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution to be eligible to apply. Candidates from Humanities and Social Sciences must have a minimum of 55% in their undergraduate degree; candidates from other disciplines must have a minimum of 70% in their undergraduate degree.

Admission Process: Admission forms can be downloaded from the website. Please also read the graduate prospectus which includes all the details of the program. The deadline for the submission of applications is by 5 p.m. on 21st May, 2015.

The written entrance exam will take place on 28th May, 2015 in Delhi.

Applicants will be informed about the venue of the exam. Results will be announced within a week after the entrance exam. Admission into the program is based entirely on performance in the written entrance exam.

Financial assistance The department offers several full cost scholarships to its M. A. students on the basis of need and merit which include a tuition and fee waiver and a monthly stipend of Rs 12000. To fee-paying students we offer teaching assistantships which will bring down the cost of their education considerably.

The eligibility and fees/scholarship for each of the courses planned at Undergraduate level for the Academic Session beginning 2015 is given below:

SNU’s eligibility criteria are developed to shortlist students with subject knowledge which serve as the foundation for each program. While students are admitted to specific programs, the University offers the flexibility to transfer to any program/school in the University after completion of one year in the applied program.

Fulfilling the eligibility criteria is only the first step and does not entitle a candidate to admission. The candidate needs to complete all the stages successfully to be offered admission to SNU. Also, the scholarships given are indicative and the decision of SNU with respect to grant of scholarship will be final and binding depending on the performance in the selection process.

To provide a fair and equal opportunity to every aspirant, SNU normalizes the scores obtained in Class XII to even out the inconsistencies that exist between various Boards of Examinations. You can look for eligibility and scholarship based on your examination Board and Class XII scores in the matrix below. You can also apply using JEE (Main) - 2015 score (For B.Tech. Programs only). Undergraduate Admission Process 2015

Shiv Nadar University will follow a 3-stage admission process comprising:

Stage – 1: Eligibility based on Class XII or JEE (Main) – 2015 scores as defined in the section - Eligibility for Admissions and Scholarships - Undergraduate Programs

Stage – 2: SNUSAT and Academic Proficiency Test (APT) – A three hour test to be administered in 100 Pearson VUE test centres across India helping every aspirant to participate in the process. SNUSAT and APT will be available as per the details mentioned under section - Key Dates.

Stage – 3: Review of Application Form for the candidate’s aspiration in life and the ability to be a stakeholder at Shiv Nadar University
