IMPORTANT DATES

GROUP A
1. M.D. (Psychiatry) .. 7 seats
Duration: 3 years (exemption of one year is granted to those who have passed Diploma of 2 years duration in the same subject).
Qualification: M.B.B.S. degree of any University recognized by Medical Council of India, with one year rotating Internship completed by February, 15, 2009.
2. Diploma in Psychological Medicine .. 14 seats
Duration: 2 years
Qualification: M.B.B.S. degree of any University recognized by Medical Council of India, with one year rotating Internship completed by February, 15, 2009.
GROUP B
3. Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology .. 4 seats
Duration: 3 years for M.A./M.Sc.(Psychology) degree holders and 2 years after M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology/ Clinical Psychology
Qualification: First Class Master’s degree in Psychology regular course Or M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology/ Clinical Psychology of any recognized University, for 3 years and 2 years course respectively.
4. M.Phil in Medical & Social Psychology .. 14 seats
Duration: 2 years
Qualification: M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology regular course of a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate.
GROUP C
5. M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work .. 9 seats
Duration: 2 years
Qualification: M.A. in Sociology or Social Work regular course of a recognized University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate.
GROUP D
6. Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing .. 14 seats
Duration: One year
Qualification: ‘A’ Grade Certificate or Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.
Experience: Two years experience as Staff Nurse.
Group A: For MD(Psychiatry) and D.P.M.:- Selected candidates may be considered for Residency Scheme as applicable to the Central Government Institutions. The residency scheme is not available at present for 3 enhanced seats for OBC candidates, which are to be provided subject to sanctioning of the same by the Government.
Group B & C: Selected candidates may be considered for scholarship of Rs.2500/- per month in the first and second year, and Rs.2800/- per month in the third year. Scholarships are not available at present for 3 enhanced seats, which are to be provided subject to sanctioning of the same by the Government.
Group D: Selected candidates may be considered for stipend of Rs.250/- per month. Scholarships are not available for 2 enhanced seats, which are to be provided subject to sanctioning of the same by the Government.
Selection procedure for M.D. and D.P.M. course
The selection will depend upon marks obtained in the entrance examination. The entrance test will be of MCQ type consisting of 100 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. There will be 0.25 negative marking for each wrong answer. The test will have questions of MBBS standard in the following approximate distribution:
10% from Psychiatry and allied behavioural sciences
10% from Neurology
30% from General Medicine
50% from rest of Medical subjects
For Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, M.Phil in Medical and Social Psychology and M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work courses also the entrance test will be of MCQ type consisting of 100 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. The test will have questions of M.A. /M.Sc. standard. There will be 0.25 negative marking for each wrong answer.
For Diploma in Psychiatric nursing course there shall not be a written entrance examination. However, there will be an interview for the selection of the candidates.
Note:
Candidates applying for both M.D. and D.P.M. and for both Ph.D. (Clinical Psychology) and M.Phil in Medical and Social Psychology courses starting from May 1, 2009 need to submit only one application each. They should clearly mention the names of the course applied for, in order of preference.
For MD (Psychiatry) and Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM):- One year Rotating Internship to be completed by 15.2.09
For MD(Post DPM, 2 Years Course), Ph.D.(Clinical Psychology), M.Phil (M&SP), M.Phil (PSW) :- Certificate of passing DPM, M.Phil(M&SP/Clinical Psychology), M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology, Sociology & Social Work and results declared on or before 15.2.2009.
For the D.P.N.:- 2 years working experience certificate as a staff nurse on or before 15.2.2009.
The candidates who do not fulfill above criteria need not apply.
The number of seats in each discipline is subject to change without assigning any reason.
15% and 7 ½% seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates respectively, subject to availability of such candidates. There shall also be reservation of 3% seats for candidates with disabilities (physically handicapped) subject to availability of such candidates. There will be 27% seats reserved for OBC candidates subject to availability of such candidates. The reservation of OBC is being implemented in phased manner and is also subject to sanctioning and filling-up of the posts required for implementation of OBC reservation. There will be no reservation in Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology course.
Attested/Xeroxed copies of all certificates, mark sheets, testimonials, Caste Certificate/Disability certificate if applicable, etc. should be attached with the application.
Details of research experience, if any, in the form of research publications in peer-reviewed journals or research papers presented in scientific conferences may be attached on separate sheet(s) of paper. Reprints of research papers may also be attached.
The application form is to be submitted electronically by internet to CIP website: www.cipranchi.nic.in. and a hard copy of the same application form printed on A4 size bond paper complete in all respect along with a Demand Draft of Rs.400/- for General candidate and Rs.300/ for SC/ST/OBC candidates(non-refundable) in favour of Director, CIP, Ranchi payable at Bank of Baroda, Kanke, Ranchi should reach the Director, Central Institute of Psychiatry, Kanke, Ranchi-834006 (Jharkhand) by December 10, 2008. The hard copy of the application form must be duly signed by the candidate and his/her photograph pasted in appropriate place. Incomplete applications or applications received after due date, i.e., December 10, 2008, shall not be considered. The admit cards and a covering letter having necessary instructions will be made available on the CIP website (www.cipranchi.nic.in). The admit card and the covering letter are to be downloaded and printed by the candidates and the same to be brought with them to the examination centre. Examinee will not be allowed to enter the examination hall with any electronic communication gadgets viz. Mobile Phones, pager etc. Examinees, who come to the examination centre, with any such gadget, he/she has to make his/her own arrangements for keeping these outside the examination centre. This should be strictly complied with.
From the pool of applicants suitable candidates would be asked to appear for a written examination and interview/counselling at this institute, which shall be between February 15 –21, 2009. The last date for joining the courses is 31st March, 2009. The candidates are strongly advised to visit the C.I.P. website from time to time for relevant information and instructions.
The Institute maintains Men’s and Women’s hostels for a limited number of its postgraduate students.
