One-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Rural Development (PGDSRD)

in the distance mode for 2009-2010

National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India and the Centre for Distance Education of the University of Hyderabad (UoH), have jointly launched the One-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Rural Development (PGDSRD) in the distance mode for 2009-10.

The PG Diploma will be jointly awarded by the NIRD and University of Hyderabad.

The Programme will be offered in two semesters and will have 35 credits. The 1st Semester will have 15 credits and the 2nd, 20 credits. One credit is equivalent to 30 hours of study. The Programme will have four courses and project in the 1st Semester and three courses and project in the 2nd Semester.

Learning resources include printed self-instructional material, audio-visual cassettes and educational CDs/VCDs, web-based on-line learning resources (include videographed lectures), Networked video conferencing at selected centres, Two compulsory contact sessions of 6-7 days each, one in 1st Semester and another in 2nd Semester to be conducted at NIRD, UoH, Hyderabad, NERC of NIRD, Guwahati, ERC of NIRD, Patna and in select centres in the each state/region of the country.

The minimum qualification for admission to the programme is graduation in any discipline from a recognised university. Those who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements of Graduation before enrolment date are also eligible.  Apart from fresh graduates, development personnel working in Rural Development, Agriculture (and allied sectors) and Education sectors, Non-Governmental Organisations/Cooperatives/Finance and Banking organisations, Corporate sector under corporate social responsibility, Faculty of various development disciplines, Rural Development, Economics, Political Science, Gender studies, Management, Agriculture and other allied discipline from Universities, Colleges, Training Institutions like State Institutes of Rural Development (SIRD), Extension Training Institutes (ETIs), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs), Agriculture Education, Research and Training Institutions can also join the course. The maximum period of the course is three years.

Admitted students will have to deposit Rs 17,000/-(Rs 15,000/- for SC /ST /PH) in two equal instalments at the commencement of each semester. Sponsoring Organisations have to deposit full fee at the time of registration of their candidate(s).

Application and brochure can be obtained by paying a fee of Rs 500/- ( Rs 300/- for SC / ST / PH candidates ) through Demand Draft drawn in favour of National Institute of Rural Development, payable at Hyderabad.

Application form can also be obtained from the Programme Cordinator, CDE, National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad, AP-500 030, by sending a DD of Rs 510/- (Rs 310/- for SC /ST) in favour of the NIRD, payable at Hyderabad.

Application Form may be downloaded from www.nird.org.in and submitted along with a fee of Rs 500/- ( Rs 300/- for SC / ST / PH candidates ) through Demand Draft in favour of National Institute of Rural Development, payable at Hyderabad.

Name of the applicant and name of the programme should be noted on the reverse side of the draft.

Duly filled forms along with application fee (if applicable) should reach Programme Co-ordinator, PGD- SRD, Distance Education Cell, NIRD, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh- 500 030, latest by 30th November 2009.
In respect of those residing in North-Eastern States, filled up applications will be accepted till 15th December 2009.
