Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS)

AIMS Test for Management Admissions - 2010 (ATMA – 2010)

The members of Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) have for long felt the need for a high quality test, the scores of which can be used in their admission process, as a reliable predictor of academic performance in post-graduate management programmes. In response to this need, AIMS offers the AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA), as a credible, comprehensive and single-window test for admissions to different postgraduate management programmes. The administration and scoring is professionally done, and the results obtained are item-analysed by a faculty team to ensure discriminating validity of the items, and of the test as a whole. This has been an ongoing process over the last six years, so that it can be claimed that the ATMA scores supplied are highly dependable indicators of the candidate's suitability for management education and career. The candidates will be supplied with the percentile scores in comprehension, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, analysing and synthesizing ability.

ATMA has been approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India for admission on All India Basis to the MBA / PGDM and other Postgraduate Programmes like MCA.

I put forward some thoughts to eliminate possible damages caused to really merited candidates during counselling.

Although the system followed by AMRITA is highly appreciated, the
following may be considered for improvement by the admissions committee & AMMA & Swamiji at least from next year onwards.

This is not a complaint. But a suggestion for improvement by an
affected candidate & his parents.

The 2010 admissions went into a great fiasco & generated frustration among real performing students.

The rule followed for state quota system ruins the very natives of the state for which quota is being kept. It will be better to allocate state quota based on the proportion of population in different states & allocate the quota. Within the state quota, the state studied students & also state students passed out of other states to be considered together.

Within the state category, pure merit to be followed. In the current system, a Tamil Nadu native student studied in Maharashtra with better
rank in entrance will not get admission while the Tamil Nadu student who studied in Tamil Nadu gets away even with an inferior ranking.

Atleast, the nativity certified state students must also be considered in state quota. The entire fiasco is because, the Institution felt that a particular state students get away with all seats in merit due to specialized coaching or relatively more population participate during the entrance examination year on year.

In one of the Institutes, they issue forms only over the counter & there is no mailing system or web down load. They do not consider the commercial benefit out of No of forms sold. Rather they also ask whether the candidate has scored above their cutoff marks even before they sell the forms. 90%. This is a pure merit system & also they don’t
have to deal with the unnecessary number of students.

Other possible alternate is: Give 10% quota for the high concentration population students, based on No of applications fro the region. 15% for all India ranking alone. Rest 75% to be 15 % each for the three states under consideration & follow state quota with students passing out from state and also natives of the state students equally under
merit even if they passed out from other states but hold a Nativity
certificate.

I also wish to inform you that we sacrificed the offer of seat with
full fee waiver in Manipal with a view to take admission at AMRITA
Coimbatore & fell victim to the current system inspite of the candidate having high merit. We are sure that more than 500 students with lesser merit has got the admission in the current quota system.
