The Raman Research Institute invites applications for research leading to a Ph.D in the following areas Astronomy and Astrophysics, including theoretical, observational and experimental research Soft condensed matter physics, including physics of nanomaterials, surfactant systems and biophysics Light and matter physics, including quantum interactions, light scattering and nonlinear optics

Theoretical physics, including statistical mechanics and quantum and classical gravitation

Chemistry of liquid crystals, soft matter, surfaces and interfaces

First class MSc in physics or B.E./M.E in engineering with good physics understanding or a first class MSc in chemistry with strong organic/physical chemistry understanding is essential. Short listing for interviews will be based on performance in GATE, NET or AGRE (for physics and engineering applicants), and a written test to be held at RRI in the second week of June (for Chemistry applicants)

Candidates who appear for JEST will be automatically considered and need not respond to this advertisement. Candidates completing their degrees by August 2010 may also apply

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be as per norms. Selected Ph.D scholars will be provided accommodation and stipends on par with UGC/CSIR
