THE UNIVERSITY
B.S. Abdur Rahman University, Vandalur, Chennai – 600 048 is located in the outskirts of Chennai city on the G.S.T. Road, (Chennai- Trichy National Highway) 7 km from Tambaram 2km from Vandalur Railway Station and 17 km from the international Airport. Being adjacent to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, it is easily accessible by city buses.
B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Engineering College,established in 1984, has blossomed out into B.S.Abdur Rahman University under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The University is acclaimed throughout India for its quality in teaching and research. Being one of the largest engineering institutions in India, it lays emphasis on innovative research, investment in high-quality facilities and first- rate infrastructure. By making use of the latest technologies and quality teaching, the University offers a wide choice of interdisciplinary degrees in engineering and has secured many university ranks every year. It is one of the few institutions with all the UG and PG programmes, approved by AICTE and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation and got upgraded as an University with an intent to keep academics in pace with the development in industry. The students are imparted knowledge and provided with ample opportunities to test their knowledge in real-time industrial situations and during this pursuit, their character traits are shaped and fine-tuned to enable them to initiate, compete, lead and share and to become good human being.
The placement record of the institution has been remarkable and most students chart their careers well before their graduation. All the graduates from its portals either occupy prestigious positions in multinational companies or join institution of higher learning in India and abroad. Some of the graduates turn entrepreneurs with the guidance of Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Industry-Institute Partnership Cell.
THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS
The department was established in the year 1984 and caters to the needs of Engineering and Technology programmes. It has 7 faculty members to impart knowledge in Applied Physics, Materials Science and Engineering applications. It offers the Doctoral research (Ph.D.) program and M.Phil programme.

INFRASTRUCTURE
The department has modern laboratories providing excellent environment for teaching and research.
The laboratories are very well equipped with latest instruments such as
Q Switched Nd: YAG laser LAB 170-10 OSM2 Spectrometer for pulsed and CW laser EPM 2000(Dual Channel) Power and Energy Meter Multifrequency Ultrasonic Interferometer-Research type (1-12 MHz) Multipurpose Lab Station High temperature Furnace (1400◦c working temperature)

M.TECH OPTOELECTRONICS & LASER TECHNOLOGY
Eligibility Master's degree in Physics / Electronics / Materials Science or B.E. / B.Tech degree in Electronics & Communication Engg. / Electrical & Electronics Engg. / Electronics & Instrumentation Engg. / Instrumentation & Control Engg. or Equivalent degree / Qualification from any recognized University or Institution DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME Full time 2 years consisting of 4 semesters Fees & Deposits The Fees & Deposits payable consist of
Tuition fees each semester.
Special fees for the programme (including laboratory, library, stationery, project and training, guidance, development charges etc.).
Professional Society membership fee during the course of study.
Caution deposit (refundable).
Mode of selection Selection of candidates will be based on their performance in the qualifying degree examinations

A Placement Cell headed by a Full time Placement & Training Officer with wide industrial experience is functioning in the College. One faculty co-ordinator and two student representatives from each department assist the Placement & Training Officer. 100% placement for all eligible students through the Placement Cell.
