A Certificate Program on Agri-business Management
Agriculture has great potentials to contribute to the Indian economy because food production is basis for human living and the demands will continue to grow.
Agriculture will continue to be the basis for Indian economy for many reasons:
With seven agro-climatic zones
➭➭ India can produce any crop world countries produce
➭➭ India is a major producer of many commodities like milk, cereal grains, fruits and vegetables, spices, cashew, coconut etc.
➭➭ India has a major share of world cattle population and has a long marine landing with conducive weather conditions throughout the year
➭➭ India is the third major producer of all foods, next to China and USA, with average total food production exceeding 600 million tons per year
Inspite of these superlative productions, India processes only <5% of all its produce, exports only a paltry <2% of the processed foods and looses around 20 to 50% of most foods produced. The monetary value of the total losses translates to a whopping Rs. 60,000/- crores per year. Saving, value adding and appropriately marketing these huge quantities of foods will fetch an additional income to stake holders and the country of around Rs. 200,000/- crores or (US $40 bn).
Agriculture has been looked upon only to the extent of production and quick selling in local markets. But, Agriculture is a business. While much has been talked about the business of food production, input management and water management for agriculture, none has been elaborately discussed on the Management of Food Processing and Value Addition of agricultural crops.
Post harvest management of food crops, value addition, appropriately packing, and marketing in domestic and international markets will be the business order of the future. Any one venturing in the career of food processing business will make fortunes for themselves and will contribute substantially for making more food available for mankind and for the growth of the country’s economy.
To create trained and competitive manpower in the food & Agricultural sector, IICPT is offering a 5 days certificate program in Agri-business Management.
The broad objective of the program is to develop effective leaders who will possess global perspective for business development empowering them with critical management and entrepreneurial skills and enable them to own or manage agribusiness of international standards.
