PhD Admissions 2012
Applications have been invited by Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore from eligible candidates to pursue PhD programme in specialized areas of Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences for the Academic Year 2012.
Eligibility:
(i) Qualification:
For Physics candidates: MSc degree in Physics with a minimum of 60% marks, and who have cleared Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST 2012).
For Chemistry and Life Sciences candidates: MSc degree with minimum 60% marks, in Chemistry or Life Sciences, and who have cleared joint CSIR-UGC Net-June.2011 and / or Gate 2012, are eligible to apply. Candidates with MSc in Botany / Agricultural science should not apply.
Those applicants who are completing MSc summer of 2012 can also apply, provided they have = 60% overall marks in the completed semesters. In the event of selection, mark sheet of the final MSc result would have to be submitted by November 1, 2012. Continuation in the PhD programme will be subject to the candidate obtaining minimum 60% marks overall. 5 year integrated MS (of IISERs) will be treated at par with 5 year integrated MSc
(ii) Age limit: The candidates desirous of availing DAE fellowship should be born on or after August 1, 1986. The age limit is relaxable by three years for OBC and by five years for SC/ST applicants.
(iii) Nationality: Applicant must be an Indian citizen.
Selection process:
The selection of the students for the PhD programme will be a two-step process: 1) Screening of short-list candidates, followed by 2) Interview of the short-listed candidates.
For Physics candidates, the short-list shall be prepared based on applicant's score in JEST 2012.
For Chemistry and Life Sciences candidates, the short-list shall be prepared based on applicant's score in CSIR-UGC Net-June 2010 and / or GATE-2012.
Short-listed Physics candidates shall be called for interview to be conducted tentatively on May 15, 16, 17 & June 19, 20, 21, 2012, at RRCAT, Indore. Short-listed Chemistry and Life Sciences candidates shall be called for interview to be conducted tentatively on May 15, 16, 17, 2012. The applicant must indicate choice of their interview date in the application form, failing which they will have to appear for interview on one of the above dates assigned by RRCAT.
Outstation applicants called for interview will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by the shortest route or the actual fare, whichever is less. This is subject to the verification of their eligibility from the original documents before the interview.

Applicants are advised to preserve the dispatch receipt for future reference. Candidates have to write down on the top of the envelope "Application for RRCAT-PhD Programme-2012 (Physics / Chemistry / Life Sciences)".
Last date for online submission is April 09, 2012.
