M.D. / M.S Admission Notice 2014-2015

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, an Institution of National Importance under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has invited applications for admission to the M.D. / M.S. courses of 3 years duration for the April 2014 session.

Selection to the Programme will be based on the merit in an online based distributed object system of examination to be held from 10 am to 1 pm on 23.2.2014 (Sunday) at Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Guwahati, Kolkata, Lucknow, New Delhi, Mumbai, Puducherry and Trivandrum.

Applicant should be an Indian National. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) registered under Section 7A of Citizenship Act 1955 are also eligible to appear in this test and all terms and conditions applicable for Indian Nationals will be applicable to them also. Such applicants should submit proof of Registration as OCI under Section 7A of Citizenship Act 1955 at the time of counseling.

Applicant must hold MBBS or an equivalent Degree recognized by the Medical Council of India and must have either completed or should be completing 1-year Internship (Rotatory Housemanship) training by 31st March 2014. Those who have already done / completed MD/MS in any subject in any Institution are not eligible for admission to MD/MS course at JIPMER. There are a total of 165 seats for the M.D. / M.S. Courses of three years duration, extending from 1st April 2014 to 31st March 2017. The disciplines and the distribution of seats discipline wise is as under:

M.D. Courses: Anaesthesiology (15 seats); Anatomy (4); Biochemistry (4); Blood Transfusion and Immuno Hematology (3); Community Medicine (5); Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology (5); Emergency Medicine (Six seats of which 3 Seats are reserved for Sponsored Candidates from JIPMER subject to clearance by the Competent Authority. All eligible Candidates thus sponsored will have to appear in the Entrance Examination. A separate Merit list would be drawn for them) ; Forensic Medicine (2); General Medicine (18); Microbiology (4); Nuclear Medicine (2); Pathology (6); Pediatrics (15); Pharmacology (6); Physiology (4); Psychiatry (3); Pulmonary Medicine (2); Radio-diagnosis (6); Radiotherapy (6).

M.S. courses: General Surgery (16); Obstetrics & Gynaecology (16); Ophthalmology (6); Orthopedic Surgery (6); Oto-Rhino Laryngology (E.N.T.) (5). All the 165 seats would be filled through Competitive Entrance Examination to be conducted by JIPMER on 23rd February 2014 (Sunday).

The number of seats reserved under various categories is as follows.: Unreserved (UR), Open to all candidates -52 seats; Institute (INST)- Open to candidates who have graduated from JIPMER- 31 seats; Other Backward Classes (OBC), Open to all candidates tallying with the Central List of OBC and not belonging to the creamy layer -43 seats; Scheduled Caste (SC), Open to all Scheduled Caste candidates- 24 seats; Scheduled Tribe (ST), Open to all Scheduled Tribe Candidates- 12 seats and Sponsored- 3 seats.

The Fee for Prospectus & Application is Rs.1000/- for UR/OBC categories and Rs.800/- for SC/ST and OPH categories. Transaction Charges as applicable has to be paid. Application can be submitted only online. Fee can be paid only through Net Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card.

Those desirous of admission to entrance examination are required to apply on-line by logging on to link in the Home page www.jipmer.edu.in  and navigating to the link ‘Apply on-line MD/MS admission-2014’. Applicant should Read the prospectus (available at http://jipmer.edu.in/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Prospectus-JIPMER-MD-MS-2014.pdf)  and instruction carefully. The flow chart for filling application on-line is given as Appendix in the Prospectus. Applicant should acquaint himself/herself with all requirements with regard to filling up the application on-line. Fee can be paid through Net Banking; Credit Card or Debit Card. Mere completion of ‘Registration for Payment’ does not confer right for issue of hall ticket.

An applicant can opt only for three Exam Cities. The allotment of Exam City would be as per the order of preference given by the applicant in the application. Normally the first preference would be allotted. But depending upon local conditions, any other Exam City other than the preferences given by the applicant may be allotted.

The process of submission of application On-line is completed only after clicking the ‘submit button’ after up-loading personal details, Scanned Photograph and Scanned Signature. Applicant may download a copy of their filled in application which would contain Application No., Personal details, scanned photograph, scanned signature and the payment details. No request for change in the details provided in the application would be considered, after the submission of the On-line application by clicking the ‘submit button’.

Online Registration of Applications on JIPMER website www.jipmer.edu.in  has to be done by 5 pm on 31.1.2014 (Friday). Hall Tickets for the Entrance Examination shall be available for download to eligible candidates, who’s Applications, are complete and accurate in all respects, from 15-02-2014 onwards. Admit cards will not be sent by post. The Hall Ticket will contain Roll Number, Name, Photo, Signature and Examination city/venue of the Examination. No candidate will be allowed to appear for the Entrance Examination unless he / she hold the Hall Ticket from the website of JIPMER.

The Entrance Examination is common to all and will be an On-Line Based Distributed Object System of Examination. There shall be only one paper of three hours duration consisting of 250 Multiple Choice Questions with single best response and will cover all subjects. The Entrance Examination will be of the standard of MBBS Examination. Question paper consists of a total of 250 Questions consisting of 100 questions from Basic Clinical Sciences including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology and Forensic Medicine & Toxicology) and 150 Questions in Clinical Sciences from Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Community Medicine, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, ENT, Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis and Radio-therapy.

All questions will be of one best / correct response type having four alternatives. Each answer with correct response shall be awarded Four Marks. For every incorrect response, one mark will be deducted. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and negative mark will be given. No mark will be given for the questions not answered. The response of the candidate for a question(s), on click of ‘submit button’ before closing of Examination shall be considered as the response chosen by the candidate.

Link to Mock Test created for applicants to familiarize themselves, is available at www.jipmer.edu.in.  In case of two or more candidates obtain same percentile in the Entrance Examination, Candidate scoring less negative marks will be placed at a higher merit. In case of tie with same percentile rank and same number of wrong responses, date of birth shall be considered to determine inter-se-merit. An elder candidate shall be placed at a higher merit.

Merit list prepared for category - wise (UR, OBC, INST, SC, ST, OPH) will be displayed in the Notice Board of Academic Section, JIPMER and website www.jipmer.edu.in  on or before 01-03-2014. Candidates will not be informed individually either through telephone or by post, etc.

The First Counseling will be on 26.3.2014 (Wednesday) & 27.3.2014 (Thursday) and the Second and Final Counseling  will be notified in the JIPMER website.  Results as well as dates for counseling and the Category Ranks in the order of merit called for counseling shall be displayed in Notice Board of Academic Section, JIPMER and in JIPMER Website www.jipmer.edu.in.  Candidates will NOT be informed individually either through telephone or by post, etc. Academic Session will commence on 1-4.2014 (Tuesday) and the Closing date of Admissions for MD/MS Courses is 31.5.2014 (Saturday).
