National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2014
The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST), a
compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER),
Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for
Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai for the 5 year integrated
M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences
will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on May 31, 2014 (Saturday), at 45 centers
across India. The website http://nestexam.in/ will open for information and Online submission of
application on January 07, 2014.
Students securing at least 60% marks in aggregate
(or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any
recognized Board in India are eligible to apply. For Scheduled Cast (SC),
Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the
minimum requirement is 55%. If a Board gives results through Letter Grade only,
a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage of marks will be
required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective
Admission Committees will be final.
Applicant should have passed the Class XII
qualifying examination in 2012 or 2013 or should be appearing for the
qualifying examination in 2014. Applications can be submitted in the online
mode or offline mode, but the online mode of application is desirable and
preferred.
Applicant should have an e-mail ID and will have to
first register before logging in for applying. On registering, applicant will
receive a conformation mail. Applicant has to confirm the registration from
this mail sent to the applicant after registration. Applicant has to then login
in the NEST homepage with the mail-id and password. The form has to be filled and saved. A saved
form can be modified also. Passport photo and scanned signature has to be
uploaded. Fees as applicable will have to be
transferred as instructed. Fee may also be paid by way of a DD taken in
favour of ‘NISER NEST’, payable at Bhubaneswar.
Applicant should quote the 5-digit Application
number in both cases. To apply offline, applicant may send a letter of request
to get the printed form by post in the address that will be specified. This
form will have to be sent back along with DD after filling it properly. DD
should not be sent with request letter but has to be sent only with filled-in
form.
The last date for receiving request of application form by
post is February 20, 2014. The completed offline application form will be
accepted up to 5.30 pm on March 08, 2014. Online application submission
facility will freeze at midnight on March 08, 2014. Dispatches of offline admit
cards will start on April 08, 2014. Facilities for downloading of online admit
cards will also be activated on April 08, 2014.
Results of NEST will be published at the NEST
website on June 20, 2014. NEST question papers of previous years are available
at http://nestexam.in/ Both NISER and UM-DAE-CBS have been started
by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007 with the objective
of training scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific
research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of
Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country.
NISER offers 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in
Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences and functions at the
campus of Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar. Degrees at NISER will be awarded
by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within
the Department of Atomic Energy. There are 100 seats in 2014-19 session,
including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC candidates and persons with disability
(PD) as per Government norms. Further details are available on the NISER

Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences is an
autonomous institution of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India
at Mumbai. The Centre is located in the Vidyanagari campus of the University of
Mumbai and offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical,
Mathematical and Physical sciences. The degrees at CBS are awarded by
University of Mumbai. Tentatively, there are 35 seats this year with
reservations as per government norms, including reservation for persons with
