BS-MS Dual Degree Admission Notice 2014
Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research
(IISER) at Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram have notified
the admissions to their 5 year BS-MS Dual Degree Programmes, starting in August
2014. This is a five year dual degree programme for bright and motivated
science students who have completed class XII, which integrates classroom
learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary
interactions
Admissions to IISERs are offered through three
different channels or streams. The first stream is the ‘KVPY’. Those selected
under the ‘Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana’ (KVPY) Basic Stream, a Programme
of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to encourage
students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research
careers in these areas, can apply through the KVPY stream (Details of the
Scheme are available at http://www.kvpy.org.in/main/. Applicants under this
scheme should belong to SA (2012)/SX (2013)/SB (2013).
IISER application window for those applying under
the KVPY stream will be open at http://iiser-admissions.in between 7th June and
7th July, 2014. Counselling for this stream would be held on 10th July, 2014.
The second stream of admission is the ‘JEE
(Advanced)’ stream. Those who obtain 60 pc marks in class XII and secure a
place in the rank list of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2014 for
admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) are eligible to apply
under this stream. Online Application for JEE (Advanced) Stream commences on
23rd June and closes on 7th July, 2014 at http://iiser-admissions.in.
Counselling for this stream would be held on 10th July, 2014.
The third stream of admission is the ‘State/Central
Board’ stream. Those who have completed Class XII in 2013 or are appearing for
that in 2014, in science stream, with (i) mark above or equal to the cut off
percentage declared by DST (www.inspire-dst.gov.in/) as eligibility for the
INSPIRE Scholarship of DST with the OBC (Non-creamy)/PD category applicants
having a 5 pc relaxation in the DST cut-off score while the SC/ST candidates
having a cut-off of 55 pc in Class XII for all the boards or (ii) Advisory note
for the eligibility for Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) under the
INSPIRE Scheme based only on the performance in the Class XII Board Examination
are eligible to apply. Those applying under the ‘State/Central Board’ stream
must also qualify in the IISER Science Aptitude Test, to be held on 20th July,
2014. Online Application for State and
Central Boards stream commences on 15th June and closes on 10th July, 2014 at http://iiser-admissions.in
The details of the offline Aptitude test, its
syllabus and model questions will be available in the web-site at http://iiser-admissions.in in due course. Candidates may appear for the
Aptitude Test at one of the five IISERs. The choice of IISER where a candidate
wants to appear for Aptitude Test and counseling needs to be indicated at the
time of filling on-line application form.
Admission to IISERs is based on the total number of
available seats as per (i) Ranking in KVPY (ii) Ranking in JEE (Advanced) 2014
(iii) Merit in the Aptitude test conducted by IISERs. The last date for
receiving admission fee is 17th July, 2014 for KVPY and JEE (Advanced) streams
and 29th July, 2014 for State and Central Board stream.
All BS-MS students are eligible for a monthly
scholarship of Rs. 5000/- awarded by KVPY/INSPIRE scheme as per DST norms,
subject to continued good academic performance. Application can be submitted
only online at www.iiser-admissions.in, following the instructions given and
other details available at the site. The Application fee is Rs.600/- (Rs.300/-
for those applying under the SC/ST category).
The total intake at the 5 IISERS together is 950.
For the first four semesters, all students will take common courses in all
disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics & Humanities).
From the fifth semester onwards, the student may opt for courses in one or more
areas. The final year will be devoted to a research project.
All five IISERs admit students through a common
application and counselling process. One application form is valid for all
IISERs. The intake through different channels will be as follows. Up to 25 pc
seats in each category (General/SC/ST/OBC Non-creamy) through KVPY channel; Up
to 50 pc seats in each category (General/SC/ST/OBC Non-creamy) from KVPY + JEE
(Advanced) channels. Remaining seats in each category through State and Central
Boards channel based on an Aptitude Test conducted by IISERs. One can apply for
more than one channel provided one meets the eligibility criteria for each of
the channels. However, it requires separate application and payment of
application fee for each channel.
