Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2015)

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune 500, leading Navratna Public Sector Company in the exciting and dynamic energy sector, engaged in Refining, Marketing and Distribution of Petroleum products and also in exploration of Oil / Gas, is looking for young, energetic, ambitious Graduate Engineers in the field of Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil and Instrumentation Engineering for the post of ‘Management Trainee’. Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil & Instrumentation Engineers desirous of pursuing a career with BPCL are required to appear for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2015).

Qualifying Degree : Applicant should hold a full-time; B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc (Engg) through AICTE/UGC approved Indian Universities / Institutes. They should have passed the degree in first attempt. Those having completed Integrated Courses or courses with duration of 5 year or more would not be eligible. Those in the final year of their engineering studies may also apply subject to submission of proof of having passed the degree examination with the prescribed percentage of marks, if short listed for interview.
The branch/specialisation and nomenclature of qualifying degree are as follows.
(i) Mechanical: B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engg) – Mechanical Engineering
(ii) Chemical: B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engg) – Chemical Engineering / Chemical Technology
(iii) Electrical: B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engg) – Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering
(iv) Civil: B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engg) – Civil Engineering
(v) Instrumentation: B.E / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engg) – Instrumentation Engineering /Instrumentation and Control Engineering / Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering / Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering

Qualifying Degrees exclude Automation / Production / Mechatronics / Manufacturing / Industrial / Electronics Engineering etc. These exclusions are only indicative and not exhaustive.

Percentage of Marks : Those belonging to General and OBC (Non- Creamy Layer/NCL) categories, should have secured minimum 60% marks in qualifying degree examination. For SC, ST, Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates, it is 50%. Those in final year of engineering studies belonging to General and OBC (NCL) categories, should have secured minimum 60% marks (in aggregate up to last semester), relaxable to 50% for SC/ST/ PWD candidates. Percentage of marks would be the aggregate of all semesters irrespective of the norms / system being followed in the institute/university. Wherever CGPA/OGPA/DGPA or Letter Grade is awarded, its equivalent percentage of marks must be indicated in the application form as per norms adopted by University / Institute. Rounding off of percentage is not allowed.

Age: For General applicant, the upper age limit is 25 years. It is 28 years for OBC (Non Creamy layer), 30 years for SC/ST. There is a relaxation of up to 10 years for PWDs with degree of disability 40% or above. Age is calculated as on 1.6.2015.  Those domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir between 1.1.1980 and 31.12.1989, have age relaxation of up to 5 years. Ex-servicemen & Commissioned Officers (including ECOs & SSCOs, subject to rendering minimum 5 years’ military service and fulfilment of other conditions prescribed by Government of India) will have age relaxation of up to 5 years. Those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (NCL) & PWD categories will need to furnish valid caste certificates & PWD Certificates respectively as per the formats prescribed by Government of India.
Selection Process : The selection process includes shortlisting based on GATE score, further shortlisting based on n Group Discussions / Alternate selection methodology and Personal Interviews. Final selection will be based on Medical Fitness in Pre-Employment Medical Examination. Besides these modes of short listings, for preliminary short listing, Psychometric tests and / or any other selection tools/tests may be considered, at the sole discretion of management. Candidates would have to qualify through each stage of the selection process successfully before being considered for final selection.

Medical test : Candidates provisionally selected by BPCL will have to undergo a Pre-Employment Medical Examination before joining. The health of candidates will be assessed by Company's Authorized Medical Officers/ nominated hospitals and the appointment will be subject to meeting the medical standards prescribed by the Company. Application : In the first stage, those interested in these positions in BPCL will have to register Online for GATE 2015 in the concerned subject, through the websites http://gate.iitk.ac.in/GATE2015/ , latest by 23.59 hours on 1st October 2014. GATE 2015 Paper codes for are, Mechanical Engineering - ME, Chemical Engineering - CH, Civil Engineering -CE, Electrical Engineering - EE & Instrumentation Engineering – IE. BPCL will consider only GATE-2015 marks and GATE-2014 marks or prior to that will not be considered.

In Stage 2, applicants will have to apply to BPCL at www.bpclcareers.com after downloading the GATE-2015 admit card and receipt of GATE registration number. BPCL’s website will be activated on 17th December 2014 and will remain active till 30th January, 2015. Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply. Applicants must have an active e-mail id, which must remain valid for at least next one ear. All future communication with the candidates will take place through e-mail only.

Applicants should have relevant documents like percentage of marks obtained in the degree examination, degree certificate, date of birth, caste/disability certificate (if applicable), e-mail id etc. readily available with them before they commence the online application process. This information would be required at the time of filling-in the application. Those presently employed in Central/ State Government, Autonomous bodies and PSUs must submit 'No Objection Certificate' of their employer at the time of GD / PI failing which they will not be allowed to appear for the selection process. Candidates belonging to OBC category, but belonging to creamy layer would not be entitled to the benefit of reservation and should apply as General Category candidate.

Those selected as ‘Management Trainee’ would be normally on Probation for one year which is extendable in case of non-satisfactory performance. On successful completion of probationary period, they would be confirmed as ‘Executive’ in the respective business unit / entity.

Candidates can be posted across the country, in any of the businesses / locations or offices including joint ventures & subsidiary companies of BPCL currently in existence and establishments that may be set up in future besides roles on deputation to other organizations. The work profile entails Operations (working in shift duties at various operating locations / installations / depots) and Sales in the Marketing function and in the Process & Engineering roles in the Refineries.
