Academic programme on Biomedical Instrumentation (BMI) has been introduced
jointly by University of Calcutta (CU) and West Bengal University of Health
Sciences (WBUHS) from 2014- ’15. Considering the ever increasing demand of
specialized manpower in this interdisciplinary field of studies and the
excellent success in last 10 years in terms of placement of the pass out
students in reputed bio-medical industries, hospitals/health-care units as well
as in academia, the joint programme between CU and WBUHS is formalized to
include all academic & research activities in the area of Biomedical
Science and Instrumentation technology. The programme shall cover a broad range
of techniques for developing fundamental skills for medical applications of
Applied Electronics and instrumentation. Further, it will provide students with
a thorough understanding of the field, specifically with practical knowledge
and expertise sufficient to evaluate, design and build medical instrument
systems using a wide range of tools and techniques.
The 2 years Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree course in ‘Biomedical
Instrumentation’ (BMI) under this Joint Academic Programme between CU and WBUHS
shall enable honors graduate students in Science discipline to focus themselves
towards a career in biomedical instrumentation science and engineering.
APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for
admission to the academic session 2014-2015 from motivated Honours Graduates in
Science discipline (Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics Science
or its equivalent) with good academic record. Not more than ten (10) students
will be admitted on the basis of their good academic record.
At the end of each academic year, an internship programme of three (3)
months duration, for the certificate holders under this joint academic
programme, will be pursued at different hospitals, Biomedical sectors and
health-care units. On successful completion of awarded of M.Sc. degree,
students may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme under this Joint Academic
Programme on ‘BMI’ under the supervision of faculty members upon fulfilling the
eligibility criteria set by the Board of Studies (BOS) for the Ph.D. programme
following the guideline of University Grant Commission, Government of India.
Degree will be awarded jointly by the Calcutta University and the West Bengal
University of Health Sciences (WBUHS)
RESERVATION OF SEATS:
Reservation of seats for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Other
Backward Classes (OBC) shall be in accordance with the reservation policy of
the Government of West Bengal.
INSTRUCTION TO CANDIDATES
1. The admission fees of Rs. 500/- , course fees of Rs. 18,000/- per
semester and examination fees as per the decision of the Universities have to
be deposited by the candidate, as and when asked for.
2. A candidate who has discontinued the academic programme during any
semester with permission from Board of Studies (BOS) will be permitted by the
Vice- Chancellor (s) to take re-admission to the new academic year at the
beginning of the semester concerned, in a subsequent year, not however beyond a
gap of two years. Fee once paid shall not be refunded or adjusted during
subsequent admission.
3. Only applications received online will be processed 17.00 hrs. IST
on 20-03-2015. Candidate should send the hard copy of the online application
(with applicant’s code which will be generated only after submitting the
application) along with attested copies of all certificates and testimonials
and a recent color passport size photograph. Late submissions or incomplete
applications will not be entertained.
4. The System will not accept any online application after 17.00 hrs.

5. Copies of Certificates/Testimonials need not be attached at the time
of online application.
6. Eligibility criteria including the upper age limit will be reckoned
on the last date of submission of application.
7. The names of short-listed candidates will be posted on websites
only. No individual letter will be sent.
8. Before applying, the applicants should ensure that they possess at
least the essential qualifications and other conditions stipulated in the advertisement.
If a candidate is found not eligible, his/her candidature will be cancelled at
any stage of the recruitment.
9. The prescribed essential qualifications are the minimum and mere
possession of the same does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.
If the number of applications becomes large, the Universities may resort to
short listing criteria to restrict the number of candidates to be called for
the interview to a reasonable limit.
10. The interested and eligible candidates may keep a watch at these
sites for any amendment.
11. No interim queries will be entertained except technical queries
regarding online application. For any such queries contact Webmaster.
12. Canvassing or bringing influence in any form will disqualify the
candidature.
13. The University authorities and Board of Studies (BOS) reserves the
right to reject any/all applications without assigning any reason whatsoever.
NOTE:
1. The right to change/modify any or all condition(s) prescribed in
this prospectus is/are at the sole discretion of the West Bengal University of
Health Sciences (WBUHS) and Calcutta University (CU).
2. Security deposit amounts will be refunded at the end of 4th
semester.
3. No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in interview.
4. Any dispute with regard to the selection process will be subject to
Courts / Tribunals having jurisdiction over Calcutta High Court, West Bengal.
