FELLOWSHIPS FOR SCIENCE WRITERS AND SCIENCE COMMUNICATORS 2014 -2015.


The State Council for Science Technology & Environment an autonomous institution under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Kerala has instituted  P T Bhaskara Panicker Emeritus Fellowship for Science Communication and Fellowships for Science writing and Communication.
Following Fellowships are available and open to writers and communicators in Science and Traineeship for young graduates.  1). Emeritus Fellowship 2). Senior Fellowships 3). Junior Fellowships 4). Traineeship.
KSCSTE Emeritus Fellowship will be awarded to a Senior Science writer-communicator. 
Applications are invited from eligible persons for awarding Emeritus, Senior and Junior Fellowships in Science writing –Communication and traineeship in Science Writing Communication, who are having the following qualifications. Application Format, Terms and conditions etc are available for download from the bottom of this webpage.
The last date for receiving applications  – 15th August, 2014.
The candidates should be a native of Kerala by birth / domicle.
A.      Emeritus Fellowship - 1
This recognition is named as P T Bhaskara Panicker Emeritus Fellowship for Science Communication which will be awarded to a Senior Science writer –Communicator who had outstanding contribution in this field for a considerably long period.
This Fellowship will be awarded based on evaluating the contributions made by the experts/scholars, by an expert panel constituted by the Council.
Fellowship of  Rs: 25,000/- per month and Rs. 50000 contingency
Duration – 2 years
Age limit: 75 years
Qualification: - 1) Post-graduation in Science 2) Well established contribution in Science Writing - Communication through any media 3) Outstanding publication in Science of high standard in Malayalam or English.
Desirable:-
1.      Teaching Experience
2.      Ph.D. in Science
3.      Leadership in any science movement which have lead to a significant transformation and impact on social upliftment of the people.
B.      SENIOR FELLOWSHIP -2
Age: up to 60 years
Fellowship: Rs.20, 000/- per month and contingency fund Rs. 25000/-
Duration – 2 years
1. Post-graduation in any branch of science
2. Proven contributions in the field of science writing or science communication through any media as evidenced by publication.
3. A minimum of 5 original science publications in Malayalam  or English on any branch of science.
DESIRABLE: Doctorate in Science/ Experience in writing-presenting Science through various media / Teaching experience/ Proficiency in the Language and Oral Communication.
C.      JUNIOR FELLOWSHIPS - 3
           Age: up to 40
          Fellowship money: Rs.16, 000/- (consolidated)
            Duration – 2 years
1-      Graduation in any branch of science.
2-      Publications in science- articles in newspapers &periodicals and at least 2 books on any area of science. 
DESIRABLE: Post Graduation, Experience in web design experience as a science presenter or script writer in various media/ expertise in Malayalam/English. Expertise in Lay out setting / Proof reading/ knowledge in current affairs/ digital publication etc.
D.     TRAINEESHIP IN SCIENCE JOURNALISM - 5
Applications are also invited from young graduates who are willing to work as trainees of Science Journalists in KSCSTE
Qualifications: Graduate in Science.
Flair in preparing articles, features and research reports on topics of Science/ Computer savvy, knowledge in current affairs aptitude in graphic design /social media/ experience in digital publication are desirable.
Upper limit – 35 years
Monthly remuneration – Rs. 12,000/- (consolidated)
Duration – 1 year
Application should carry full Biodata of the candidates incorporating age, qualifications, experience achievements in the particular field and a recommendation letter from a reputed teacher/ journalist/scientist who was a mentor of the candidate or long acquaintance with the candidate.  Name and address of two referees from the field of Science Communication who can provide reliable information about the candidate may also be included.
The age limit prescribed against each item will be calculated  as on 01-July-2014

Scheme for Promoting Young talents in Science (SPYTiS) – Call for applications

Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE) encourages young students to unleash their potential in science through SPYTiS. The scheme helps the students to take up innovative and challenging projects in science under the supervision of their teacher or a mentor.

Under the scheme SPYTiS- I, a maximum financial assistance of Rs.5,000/- is extended to selected school students of Standard VIII-XII for completing a science project during the current academic year. SPYTiS-II provides research grants to young talents enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate courses in colleges in Kerala for demonstration of their innovative ideas. A maximum financial assistance of Rs.10,000/- is awarded to selected students for working in projects on novel concepts in science and technology.

The applications for SPYTiS I and II are now open and the completed application should reach KSCSTE on or before August 31, 2014. About the scheme
Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment has launched a special programme called Scheme for Promoting Young Talents in Science (SPYTiS). Students from schools, polytechnic colleges and those admitted to undergraduate level courses in colleges will be selected every year for doing a science project under SPYTiS-I and SPYTiS-II schemes.

Objectives
Identify and nurture young talents among school children to carry out science projects (SPYTiS- I)
Under the scheme, a group consisting of 2 or more students of Class VIII-XII from a school will be selected for the award (Rs.5,000/-) for doing a science project. The duration of the project is one year.

Provide research support to young talents enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate courses in colleges for doing science projects (SPYTiS-II)
Under the scheme, the students who have innovative ideas in science & technology and enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate courses in colleges will be provided financial assistance of Rs.10,000/- for conducting projects. The support will be essentially project based and will be given for a period of one year.



Who can apply?
Students from schools, polytechnic colleges and those admitted to undergraduate level courses in colleges

Features:
Under both schemes, grant will be sanctioned to the host institution and the student has to work under the guidance/supervision of a teacher. The awardees shall be requested to participate in a Science Talent Fair, Children Science Congress or Kerala Science Congress organized by KSCSTE for presenting their projects/findings.



Duration:   One year for both schemes (SPYTiS- I &I I).

KERALA STATE COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY & ENVIRONMENT
PRATHIBHA SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

Award of Pratibha Scholarship 2014-15
(Rs 12,000/-, 18,000/-, and 24,000/- for 1st , 2nd and 3rd years respectively and extendable to PG course)

 Students of Kerala origin, who have obtained 90% and above or equivalent grade for Higher Secondary Board Examination in any of the Boards viz., CISCE/CBSE/State Board from Kerala and have secured admission for pursuing B.Sc. Degree/Integrated M.Sc. Degree course in Basic or Natural Sciences in India in the academic year 2014 -15 are eligible to apply.

 Number of scholarships awarded: 100
 Last Date for receipt of application: 30th September 2014
 The Scholarship could be availed for studies anywhere in India.
