Scheme for Promoting Young talents in Science (SPYTiS) – Call for applications

Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE) encourages young students to unleash their potential in science through SPYTiS. The scheme helps the students to take up innovative and challenging projects in science under the supervision of their teacher or a mentor.

Under the scheme SPYTiS- I, a maximum financial assistance of Rs.5,000/- is extended to selected school students of Standard VIII-XII for completing a science project during the current academic year. SPYTiS-II provides research grants to young talents enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate courses in colleges in Kerala for demonstration of their innovative ideas. A maximum financial assistance of Rs.10,000/- is awarded to selected students for working in projects on novel concepts in science and technology.

The applications for SPYTiS I and II are now open and the completed application should reach KSCSTE on or before August 31, 2014. About the scheme
Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment has launched a special programme called Scheme for Promoting Young Talents in Science (SPYTiS). Students from schools, polytechnic colleges and those admitted to undergraduate level courses in colleges will be selected every year for doing a science project under SPYTiS-I and SPYTiS-II schemes.

Objectives
Identify and nurture young talents among school children to carry out science projects (SPYTiS- I)
Under the scheme, a group consisting of 2 or more students of Class VIII-XII from a school will be selected for the award (Rs.5,000/-) for doing a science project. The duration of the project is one year.

Provide research support to young talents enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate courses in colleges for doing science projects (SPYTiS-II)
Under the scheme, the students who have innovative ideas in science & technology and enrolled in polytechnic colleges and undergraduate courses in colleges will be provided financial assistance of Rs.10,000/- for conducting projects. The support will be essentially project based and will be given for a period of one year.

Students from schools, polytechnic colleges and those admitted to undergraduate level courses in colleges

Features:
Under both schemes, grant will be sanctioned to the host institution and the student has to work under the guidance/supervision of a teacher. The awardees shall be requested to participate in a Science Talent Fair, Children Science Congress or Kerala Science Congress organized by KSCSTE for presenting their projects/findings.



Duration:   One year for both schemes (SPYTiS- I &I I).
