ADMISSIONS 2009-2010 FOR BA/ BCom DEGREE COURSES (OPEN STREAMS)
 
Applications have been invited by School of Distance Education, University of Calicut, for admission to the BA/BCom Degree Courses under Open Streams.

The scheme is mainly to envisage facility for those persons who could not undergo the regular college course due to various reasons and who eagerly aspire to acquire a Degree. No basic educational qualification is insisted for admission to the course through the open stream. The applicants have to appear for an entrance examination and only those who secure a minimum of 35% marks in the examination are admitted to the Degree programme.

The following courses are conducted as per Open Stream. All have Malayalam/Hindi/Arabic as Second Language in addition to the Main subject and Subsidiaries.

BA:

1. History (Main) Economics and Political Science (Subsidiaries)
2. Economics; Indian History & Political Science
3. Political Science; Economics & World History
4. Sociology; Political Science & Gen. Psychology
5. Malayalam; Sanksrit/Journalism
6. English; Social & Cultural History of Britain and Political Science/World History/Journalism
7. Arabic; Functional Arabic & Commercial Arabic

BCom:
 
Commerce; Co-Operation/Finance (Optional)

The Scheme, Syllabi, Examination, Valuation and Mark lists, Degree Certificate etc. are identical to that of regular college courses offered by the University. All those who have attained the age of 18 years by the first day of July during the year of admission are eligible to apply for the entrance examination.

Application is to be submitted online at www.universityofcalicut.info by clicking the link 'Open Stream Entrance Examination 2009'. Before filling the application form a recent passport size photograph of the applicant should be scanned and kept in JPEG Format. The prescribed application fee has to be remitted by Chalan/DD. Photo in the printout of the application should be attested by Gazetted Officer. The printout, along with attested copies of documents proving age, caste (if SC/ST) and Chalan/DD should be submitted to the Director, School of Distance Education in any of the manner given below and study materials and question bank obtained.
Candidates should keep the online Reg.No for the purpose of downloading the Hall Ticket.

Application can be submitted directly to

(b) to the Co-ordinators of study centres of School of Distance Education given below on Saturdays and Sundays.

Printout, along with other documents may be sent by Post to the Director, School of Distance Education, Calicut University P.O, Malappuram, Kerala-673635, India along with a self addressed stamped envelope of size 30cm x 25 cm with stamps worth Rs. 50/- affixed to reach there latest by by 1st July 2009 (without fine) and  15th July 2009 (with fine of Rs. 100/-).

Candidates outside Kerala and abroad should apply through the approved Counselling Centres, the list being available in the detailed Notification given at http://www.universityofcalicut.info/JOHN/sde%20open%2009.pdf, who will forward the printout of the application with documents proving age, DD etc., in one bundle latest by 20th July 2009

Entrance Examination will be held on 8th & 9th August 2009 (Saturday and Sunday) The Entrance Examination Fee for Candidates enrolled in India is Rs. 750/ (Rs. 375/-for SC/ST). For candidates enrolled  abroad, it is USD 110

The examination will be objective type with multiple choices. There are three papers of 2 hours of duration for the entrance examination, each carrying a maximum of 100 marks.

Paper I: General English (2 hours, 100 marks)
Paper II: Hindi/Malayalam/Arabic (2 hours, 100 marks)
Paper III: Indian History/Politics/Economics/Commerce (2 hours, 100 marks)

Candidates should appear in Paper I General English and in Hindi/Malayalam/Arabic under Paper II and in any one of the four subjects under Paper III. Those who desire to join for the B.Com Degree course should select Commerce under Paper
III. Those who want to take Malayalam or Arabic Language and Literature as Main for B.A. should select Malayalam or Arabic under Paper II (as per the paper chosen), and any of the subjects in Paper III except Commerce. Candidates for the B.A subjects (History/Politics/ Economics/Sociology/English) should write Paper I, II and any one of the three subjects under Paper III except Commerce for entrance examination. Detailed time table will be given to the candidates well in advance, intimating the schedule of examination through the website.

The questions for the examinations will be based on the study materials supplied by the SDE on receipt of the printout of the application submitted online with the required fee. Every subject will have its own lessons with a Question Bank and its Answer Key. The questions for the examination will be from the given Question Bank.

Examination will be conducted in Colleges/Schools in all the districts of the State except Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha. Candidates should write only the name of the district in the application in the column provided for entering the name of examination centre. Name of the College/School centres will be furnished by this Office on the Admission Ticket. The Admission Ticket can be downloaded from 01.08.2009 onwards from the University website using the online Registration key number allotted to them.

Those who secure a minimum of 105 marks out of 300 (35%) in the entrance examination will be admitted to the Degree course. The candidates who are absent for one or more papers will not be eligible for a pass in the examination. There is no revaluation or recounting for the entrance exam. No mark list or certificate of the entrance examination will be issued to the candidate.
Entrance examination is conducted only for the purpose of selecting eligible candidates to Open Stream Degree courses in the particular year and the examination is not treated as equivalent to any examination conducted by the University.
The results will be published on the website as well as the centres of the examination. The successful candidates have to submit a formal application with prescribed fee for the course.
Those who fail to submit the application along with the fee within the prescribed time limit will lose their chance to continue the course. No successful candidate is allowed to carry forward his result and claim for admission in the subsequent years. It is valid only for the current academic year.
