M.A/M.Sc in Habitat Policy and Practice for 2010-2012
 
Tata Institute of Social Sciences  (TISS), Mumbai, has invited applications for admission to M.A/M.Sc in Habitat Policy and Practice for 2010-12. The programme, focuses on policies and practice of policy in the Habitat Sector with substantive focus on urban sectors and urban issues. The total intake is 15.

Applicant should have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management, Physical Sciences, Geography, Planning, Law or Social Sciences with some inclination towards habitat-related issues/sectors. Professionals working in different sub-sectors of the habitat sector or the urban sector are also eligible, provided they possess the minimum academic qualifications. Apart from the minimum academic qualifications, proficiency in written and spoken English and basic capabilities in Mathematics would be desirable and helpful to students in making best of what the programme offers.

Those in the final year of Bachelor's Degree programme, but have not passed in all the courses (Main/Major/Subsidiary etc.) of first and second years (if the Degree is of 3 years duration) and first, second and third years (if the Degree is of 4 years duration) on the day of applying for the programme are not eligible to apply.

Those who have been declared as failed in the final year examination are also not eligible to apply, unless they pass their Bachelor's Degree examination on the day of applying for the programme.

Selection process will include a Written Test carrying 100 marks and a Personal Interview carrying 70 marks.The Written Test having Two Parts, will be held on 7th March, 2010, at Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Kolkata. Part I of the written test is an Objective Test of 45 minutes duration and will consist of 3 parts, namely (i) General awareness/Knowledge about Current/Contemporary Social issues (ii) Analytical/Logical reasoning and Quantitative ability and (iii) Verbal reasoning. Part II of the Written Test is the 'Programme-Based' test of 60 minutes duration is. The Written Test aims to assess Critical Analysis, Sensitivity to Social and Environmental Issues, General Awareness/Knowledge about Current/Contemporary Social Issues, Analytical/Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Ability and Verbal Reasoning. Those short-listed for the Personal Interview to be held at Mumbai Campus on 29th & 30th March, 2010/ 9th & 10th May, 2010 (actual date for a candidate will be put up on the TISS website and will also be intimated to the candidate through email), have to submit the Detailed Application Form online, which will be available at www.tiss.edu after declaration of the results of the Written Test on 15th March, 2010. They will also be required to bring a hard copy of the filled in Detailed Application Form along with photocopies of all documents and two passport-sized photographs while attending Personal Interview. Reservation for SC/ST will be 15% and 7.5% respectively. Reservation for OBC is 27% while for Kashmiri Migrants; it will be subject to the Government of India directives.

Application Form and Information Brochure can be obtained by sending a request letter to the Assistant Registrar (Academic) of the Institute along with a self-addressed cloth-lined envelope of A4-Size and a Demand Draft for Rs. 750/- drawn in favour of the 'Tata Institute of Social Sciences', payable at Mumbai.

Application can be downloaded from www.tiss.edu and submitted with a Demand Draft for Rs. 750/- with name, address, telephone number (along with STD code), etc. written on the reverse of the Bank Draft,.Application can be obtained from the Cash Counter of TISS, against cash payment between 9 a.m and 7 p.m (Monday to Friday) and  from 9 a.m to 4 p.m on Saturdays.

Application can be submitted online at http://121.240.18.133:7070/campus/OnlineApplication.action.  After submission of on-line application, print out of the application has to be taken which has to be sent to the Institute along with a DD for Rs.750/- and other necessary documents.Unemployed SC/ST applicants, having Parent's/Guardian's income as Rs One lakh or below for the financial year 2008-09, can obtain the Application Form free of cost.

They can download the form from www.tiss.edu and submit it along with a true copy of the Caste/Tribe Certificate and the Income Certificate. They can also obtain the application from the Assistant Registrar (Academic), TISS, by sending a request letter along with a true copy of Caste/Tribe Certificate, Income Certificate and self-addressed cloth-lined envelope of A4-Size.

Filled applications should reach Academic Section, TISS by Registered Post/Speed Post/ Courier or personally by 5 p.m on 5th February, 2010. The last date for receiving applications sent by post from remote areas/regions (Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti district, Pangi sub-division of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep Islands), is 12th February, 2010.
